Royce Lewis has been rostered here since 2017
-
Prospects are huge currency here ,however , until they lose their luster and become post hype.
-
Even the prospects people are saying it's not a great year for prospects. And the ones that graduated last year haven't been all that great.

I’m happier with a cheap Glasnow and a market-rate Varsho than the many correspondents who provided me with unsolicited comments on that trade; White (cut), Veen (surprisingly not cut—I imagine Kevin is dreaming of power like that in Coors but has forgotten the nightmare of Rockies management that will ensure it never happens), and a keepable Robert seems like a poor return for Betts alone but he had to throw in Hader and Snell too?

You ended up getting Glasgow and Varsho for Betts which you kept. I ended up trading Robert, Veen, and Mitch White for Hader, Snell and Betts
-
Yeah, that trade was fine (though the AI allegedly running this team told me to cut Busch, but humans intervened. Meddling ownership). I don’t think I’d have kept Freddie at that salary (and these new Dodgers), but I don’t want to be rebuilding 2 years in a row. I was thinking more of the enormous disrespect afforded Mookie Betts last year.

You got Olson and Busch from me and very keepable contracts. I got Freeman who is high contract and Doval who I couldn't offord to keep . I imagine , like me, you would have kept Freeman too

(Part of the reason I think the offers see med terrible: this just seems like a lousy collection of “top prospects”. I’ve been spoiled I guess.)

I haven’t forgotten—I tried it last year. The offers were awful. I was trying to tank and couldn’t even finish in the bottom half of the standings. But maybe it was a weird year, and probably I was just bad at it. I’m not too happy about how I’m going into this year.

Pat, you may or may not have forgotten that last year, with up to five contenders well into the season and three until the end, impact pieces were bringing huge hauls. Taco and Kevin got most of my best young up now or soon to be up cheap talent. Seems better way to go is to carry high contracts and trade post draft. Of course that didn't work in Capped because one team ran away with it.

Back to Keith Law...big wow that Jackson Chourio is ranked #3 and was unranked last year . sort of an indictment of these " experts " on trying to predict a randomness

Happy birthday Fred. Got any big plans?

re our keepers…looks like I zagged while many of you zigged (Capped, too). Probably not the best strategy for someone who thinks the auction is the worst way to build a team. I may not spend my $$ efficiently but I am looking forward to the last hour or so of the auction when I outbid Fred for everyone $1 guy he nominated.

Chewed a shit load of Skoal too , gave me the shakes when I quit cold turkey

I'd like to get some of you on my home turf in central Illinois at the strip pits for a fishing derby . 7# large mouth and 2 # slab crappie. I like to tell people I majored in fishing , as I think I spent more hours at that than in classroom.

My path to success was networking, relationships, and the long game , trust, and respect.

Henry, I've done rather well , and thankyou. Will be 57 tomorrow , own house , cars , no debt nice IRA , nice liquid cash position . looking to buy a second home in Arizona

…We weren’t still using vacuum tubes but no one was sharing sat time with me either. It’s a different world now with both remote sensing and the richness of the data that can be collected. So I definitely agree with John, though I might lean towards computer science over pure math. A better than just basic (hehe) knowledge of R (or whatever the cool kids are using for data exploration/analysis these days) seems like a requirement. The same skills you’d need to be a good baseball analyst….

I did some telemetry studies for my dissertation research (looking at how adult Douglas’s squirrels used their territories and the fate of dispersing juveniles) and my first job with FWS (helping one of NGB’s grad students with her research on how American Avocets and Black-necked Stilts use Se-contaminated ag drainage ponds) (maybe it surprises my younger FWS colleagues that ecological research was ever done by FWS and not the Geological Survey). These were the dark ages of the mid to late 80s.

I can't find a way to gift individual articles like you can do with the Times, but the Athletic does let subscribers give out 30 day guest passes. It's definitely a free trial period where they will auto bill you if you forget to cancel though. If anyone wants a code (the normal trial is only 7 days) let me know.

Seems like it set you up well for life, Fred!

I imagine several of us have done animal telemetry at some point. I've been involved in a dozen-ish telemetry projects. They are a lot of fun, really they are why you follow these sorts of career paths. The best advice I could give an undergraduate looking to make a career in biology/fisheries/wildlife is to at least minor, if not major, in math or statistics. Anyone can follow fish around with an antenna, being able to draw conclusions from the data afterwards is the employable skill.
-
Henry sounds like a smart young man . I majored in beer, bongs, broads and fishing.
-
The Athletic included in the New York Times subscription, although neither the Athletic nor the Times really mentions it. But if you have a Times subscription you have a subscription to the Athletic too.
-
On a completely different note -- some of you here are in the environmental sciences, I think? My son is trying to figure out what to study in college. He's discovered Animal Telemetry. Anyone run across that in their careers?

Yes, Athletic has a paywall. Well worth the price, in my opinion.

Jeremy, a very astute observation. Also more prospects kept in here by far, than in other leagues
-
Looks like across all my leagues, the most salary was kept in this one. Should make for a quick auction
-
That has a paywall right ?

$45 to spend on 18 guys? I guess your spreadsheet must answer that unanswerable question: can I go to $2 on Jean Segura? Anyway, 68 here today—no one really *has* to hibernate. We full, but y’all are welcome to move to Raleigh.

Welp, I think I’ve trimmed as much as I can, but my max bid is still only $52. Maybe some other year, Bryce
-
Not too many impact guys in draft and the league meany has the most dough . Still looking forward to it
-
Good assessment Charles . Everyone has to show their hands , even the league mizers who find it so painfull, they wait until the deadline. Main reason is I live where its shitty weather ( so does Henry). Can't do much , Superbowl isn't for two weeks, so I work on my spreadsheets and draft preperation hardcore. Brewing two hearted ale tommorow just to tap at draft.
-
Fred's favorite day is upon us. He loves his cuts and seeing how juiced the draft will be.

I suspect everyone knows this and has been procrastinating until the weekend, but if you haven't renewed yet, your team will expire on the 31st.

-
Bat, all I can tell you is I've been burned so many times thinking a redraft on a guy will be cheaper ,when it becomes the opposite and I wish I kept the player . This league does a good job of beating down guys they secretly want , only about three in here I trust
-
Someone should offer me something (like a MI or an OF) keepable for Salvie Perez. This isn't Betts--Perez isn't underwater at $15, and that's with the projection only expecting 141 games. With Melendez on hand he'll DH a lot. I don't believe all of you competitive teams have top-10 Cs.... Don't count on picking him up for $6 in the auction--I'd hate to do it, but i can play Varsho and even Moreno (if he's worth playing) in the OF.
