  • Man. Rickey was my first fav player and so important to my fandom. Those late 80s World Series are my first baseball memories. Such an iconic player. Not many are truly one of a kind, but he is for sure. No one will ever be a similar player. Leadoff power. Blazing speed. Swagger. Dang it sucks he’s gone.

  • Still the only WS game I’ve ever been to, game 4 of the 1989/Loma Prieta series, so almost 2 weeks later than it should have been played but it seemed over early. Willie Mays threw out the 1st pitch, then I’m not sure Keith had finished the opening riff of Start Me Up before Rickey hit a 2-0 pitch a mile out to left. He later had a 3b, and a 1b (he hit .474/.524/.895 for the Series), and soon the As were up 8-0. Giants actually made a game of it late but couldn’t prevent the sweep.
