And now a nasty liner off Maeda's leg, didn't look good.

The Twins getting a big boost to their lineup this week with Kepler, Gallo, Polanco and Kirilloff coming back.

I have the same dreadful feelings as well. I was actually happy last night when Scherzer got pulled from the game for having sticky substance on his hand. It is always in the 5th-7th innings where your SP is having a great game but gives up that home run that knocks down your points.
-
I’ve had an embarrassing number of times imploring the manager to pull my pitcher when I clearly see disaster looming. Invariably he does not. Totally get it
-
I wish there was a feature where if you start a guy you can pull him from "your" lineup even if the MLB manager hasn't pulled him yet. I think most people could have told you if Turnbull made it through 5 innings unscathed you should consider that a big win and pull him. Would absolutely not have let him see the third time through the order in the 6th. So frustrating when we have to pay for bad management/misuse in real life.

I do think the Cubs will be better than I initially thought, but will still be right at .500 give or take 5 games on either side. I still think there is a very good chance they fall just under .500
-
Squirrels, you are smarter than that.
-
I'm getting a little more antsy for more pitching so if you don't like what you see let me know.

So I just tuned in to check out how the Padres game was going and got such a kick out of the sheer irony of a personal injury lawyer advertisement targeting people injured in motorcycle accidents...

I like to think of the Winnetka manager handing him the baseball and telling him, "No pressure, Hayden, but after tonight we'll now if you're really a Winnetka Cub or if it's time to send you to the glue factory. Good luck, kid."
-
Oooh a make or break start, I like it! He really seems like he should be better than his results thus far.

He is horrible in the field. Dalbec is tall and stiff and btw, the first grounder to short Dalbec had to move to his left just a bit and he didn't get his glove down far enough and booted it for an error.
-
He has no business playing shortstop for a major league team. It would be one thing if he was actually a good hitter.
-
WTF is Joey Cora thinking? Bobby Dalbec at SS?!?!?!?!?!?
-
Yeah glad to be off to a good start, but I know for the top teams some negative regression will eventually be coming and for the bottom teams some positive regression will be coming as well. Looking forward to the marathon this summer. Biggest hope is just for everyone to stay healthy!

At least I got to positive points in pitching after yesterday. Rough start of the year for the Winnetka Cubs and a nice start for Buxton and Slobberpuss.
-
AL winners: Toronto, Minnesota, Houston
NL winners: Atlanta, St Louis, San Diego
Playoffs are so unpredictable. Toronto would be my pick though.
-
Yeah if I deviated a bit from you I'd say Yankees, Twins, M's in the AL and Braves, Brewers, Padres in the NL. WC not really sure, maybe Astros, Rays and Blue Jays and in the NL maybe Dodgers, Cards and Phillies.

-
Love the picks, I'm going with:
Toronto
Cleveland
Houston (though I hope it is Seattle and think it will be close)
WC teams: Seattle, New York, Los Angeles
Atlanta
Milwaukee
San Diego
WC teams: Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Mets
WS who knows but I'll say Atlanta over Seattle
-
I almost picked the Cubs for the division.
-
Division winners:
Toronto
Minnesota
Seattle
Atlanta
Milwaukee
LA Dodgers
Toronto beats the Dodgers for the World Series
Not very confident in the WS prediction.
-
NM, wrong league.
-
Griz, I think you have to pick Reyes up for the sixth time just for nostalgia sake.
-
I wonder what is the mean/median of all pro level bats and all pro level pitchers from past year that miss 50%+ games the following year. This year does seem abnormal so far. I’m sorry to teams effected, but am glad to be rebuilding
-
Lucky that Badoo has nice depth at 1B.

Now Hoskins tore his ACL and likely out for the year. These early injuries to studs are just no fun.

Yeah apparently he has worked to develop more power and could be a really solid bat. But he's not replacing Bo or Chapman and it's hard to see him playing 2B much with Whit, Espinal and Biggio on the roster as well.

Addison Barger is a nice stash. I watched a few Blue Jay spring training games this year. Problem for Barger, no where to play.

Greg Amsinger host of MLB Tonight at times. He is on a lot, such a dork.

At least they don’t have “hall of famer” Tim Kurkjian

Was John Smoltz talking?

I put on the MLB channel on this morning, I wanted to vomit.

That was pretty wild to see Ohtani vs. Trout to finish the WBC Championship. Now if only the Angels would use Ohtani as a closer out of the pen between starts on his normal bullpen day!

Happened in the WBC. Hit by a pitch right on the hand and fractured his thumb.

I have not been doing a good job keeping up on Spring Training this year, this is the first I have heard of Altuve's injury.
-
With Altuve now down for a couple of months I'm open to listening to offers on him. WBC has been fun but these injuries to guys like Diaz and Altuve really suck lol

Edwin Díaz torn patellar tendon, out for season. That sucks... one of the funnest pitchers to watch in the game right now. Mets need to start keeping their players in padded rooms.
-
The big problem is Fangraphs and the projection services they use are terrible. There is very little "art" involved with their projections. In fact there is little difference between all the service they use. They all use mean regression formula with a few tweaks. I'm NOT saying they are completely useless, and I will look at them, but mostly for games plaid, innings and plate appearances.

I would love to make my own projections for each player but that is a waaayyy bigger time commitment that I haven't allowed myself to fall into yet.
-
I don't usually go back and compare (I would care more if they were my own projections but I am using other projection systems). For these projections I am using exact projections for each category that is counted in FGPTS. For example ATC has Aaron Judge projected for 150 games, 545 AB, 155 hits, 25 doubles, 1 triple, 43 homeruns, 96 walks, 6 HPB, 9 SB, and 3 CS. This would give him 1120 points scored and 7.47 P/G.
-
Squirrels, do you ever save your preseason numbers and go back and compare your numbers from the start of the year to the final standings to see how close you were? Even if people miss games played and innings I wonder if you can tell even just on a rate basis how close you came? Do you mostly use wOBA for hitting and somehow manually input base running?

Awesome, yep, that sounds pretty close to what I went with too! Love working on fantasy baseball stuff when I should be doing my day job...
-
You approach of actually guessing how many innings you'll take from each individual pitcher is probably a bit more accurate, but I'm guessing not too far off and for projections I figure what I am doing is close enough.
