I’ll go with Jhoan Duran, SP, MIN. Soler Eclipse is on the clock!

I am logging all of these changes on our MiLB draft spreadsheet, both with a new sheet entitled "2021 MiLB draft" and the rosters page. If you don't have access to the spreadsheet or lost the link, here it is

Glad our draft is off to such a fast start! Now seems as good a time as any to mention that now that The Wanderers is at 5 MiLB players with that pick, his pick will be skipped in subsequent rounds. Similarly Thunder Gun will be skipped throughout the draft since he is at 5 and so on.
-
Good pick Phil. Had Joe Ryan for a year, but needed to cut him. With the 3rd pick, I'll go with Zac Veen, OF, COL. Balco Bombers is on the clock.
-
[NFL Commissioner strides across the dais to the podium] "With the second pick in the 2021 Effectively Wild Fans Minor League Draft, the Phil Roof All Stars select Joe Ryan, SP, Tampa Bay!" [solitary person clapping echos through the empty arena] "The Wanderers are now on the clock!"
-
Ok then...to get the 2021 MiLB Draft going, SR&K takes Quinn Priester (RHP) Pittsburg. Phil Roof and his All Stars are up.
-
Hey guys, I got all caught up with the posts from yesterday: I take no issue with the proposed rules regarding MiLB players and draft eligibility and support Schroedinger's ideas. Also ready to get the MiLB draft rolling when everyone else is good to go.

I'm set with my MiLB pick sequence and will post once SR&K posts his tomorrow. Phil yelled at me loudly about my list but I'm sticking to my guns. He needs to learn.....
-
Moving forward I'll say let's try to impose a 24 hour clock for draft picks during the MiLB draft but of course if one of your picks is going to be difficult to make in that time frame just let me know and we can be more flexible since there are less picks this year and still 3 weeks before the season starts. The draft order is last year's standings in reverse order and as a courtesy maybe include who is next on the clock in your posts here when you make your picks.
-
Good to know. I am going to wait for the rest of the day to see if any owners want to chime in on the previous discussions but if there are no objections I think we will institute the rule that MiLB guys can't be auctioned til the draft is over (so I will remove Duran from whoever's roster when the auction ends) and the rule that any players cut after the Jan. 31 deadline cannot be drafted. If there are no objections then tomorrow morning you can thrown out the first pick of the MiLB draft.
-
Commish, whenever you’re ready to start rolling on the MiLB draft, I’ve got my first pick all set.
-
For sure man, just wanted to any thought of that to rest :)
-
Totally and I didn't mean to imply you did. I didn't even realize whitley was MiLB eligible til Ben's Banter told me. A cut makes perfect sense for him since he's likely headed for TJ; I was just mentioning that if we didn't establish a rule against drafting players cut after Jan. 31st this might be the sort of shenanigans we open ourselves up to.
-
Just so everyone knows, I did not Cut Whitley on the premise I would use my MiLB draft pick on him. Just so we're clear, I'm not trying to pull a shady move. I didn't even think of that until you guys talked about it now.
-
That makes sense. The simpler the rule, the better.

I can live with that.
-
So basically I'm proposing any minor leaguer which is cut after the January 31st cut deadline is not eligible to be drafted.
-
If you follow the link I'll post at the end here, you'll note that "Any player with either a salary or cap penalty of ≥ $1 in the current season" is off limits for the MiLB draft according to the rules laid out by the author.
Link: https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/ottoneu-101-the-5milb-structure/
-
So looks like most leagues running this system subscribe to whitley being off limits even after he clears waivers since he would be administering a salary cap hit to the wanderers. I think I like this because I really don't want to deal with the nonsense of an owner trying to cut an MiLB eligible guy while their draft pick is up in the MiLB draft so they can move them to their MiLB roster if they clear waivers.
-
One loophole that we'd need to close is determining whether MiLB players on waivers are eligible for the MiLB draft. Like if we'd started the draft today, would Whitley be eligible or not?

Yeah you've convinced me, I also agree.
-
I'm with Mr Ben and his Banter on this one.
-
I think this is preferable to litigating every possible circumstance. Like if someone drafts an MiLB player who is on being auctioned but the auction isn't done yet. Or if someone with lots of cap space decided to auction all the best MiLB players in order to block them from the draft until their turn came around. It could get silly. If someone wants an MiLB player bad enough, they can get them in the live auction draft. If not, wait until the MiLB draft is done.

I think it's probably simplest if we just set a rule that no player without MLB time can be auctioned before the end of the MiLB draft. The simpler the rule the better. So in that case, Whitley could be claimed off waivers but could not be re-auctioned right away.

Actually I think it is okay to allow auctions for MiLB players before the draft. If you like a guy enough to be willing to spend $ and a roster spot on them instead of waiting to try and snag them in the draft then you should be able to do so.
-
In general I think it could cause some serious headaches if we allow MiLB players to be auctioned before the draft is over but I want to know what other people think.
-
Ben's Banter has brought to my attention another sticky point which is if Forrest Whitley clears waivers here, then he would also be available in the MiLB draft, which means he would then under what I'm proposing, be unable to auctioned even though he was just cut. I think the best path forward is to get as many owners' feedback as possible and come to a group decision on what to do here.
-
Good call Schroedinger. I started that auction, go ahead and take that off if you can.
-
I think this would be a good idea. Helps with planning for the upcoming draft.
-
Let me know what all of you think but if we agree then I can just commissioner cut Duran from the roster of whoever ends up with him.
-
We're sorry to have missed you in the draft Squirrels! These things do happen and I'm still of the mind that any ottoneu team can compete in two years at the latest no matter their position. One important thing of note: Jarren Duran would be eligible in the MiLB draft that is going to start soon, and he is currently being auctioned. I think the smart thing to do would be to not allow MiLB guys to be auctioned til the end of that draft.
-
I guess I'll be in full rebuild mode now... no way I can compete this year after missing the auction.
-
Sorry I missed the auction guys. I was traveling home and supposed to be back in plenty of time, but I broke down... super sad I missed it I had been looking forward to it!
-
We'll start our MiLB draft soon, give me a day or so to update you on here as to the structure.
-
Great draft everyone! Trades are back on the table and good luck this season!
-
looks like you're not locked out so probably just the issue balco had, try again and we'll wait for you. paused for now.
-
booted and can't get back in, help
-
weird it doesn't say you're locked out, try entering again?
-
anyone else locked out from draft-room?
-
I may be a handful of minutes late for the draft. Obstinate toddler problems.
-
Hey everyone! Just wanted to say that I'm excited for the draft tomorrow, but I can only make it for the first 45 minutes or so. A's minor leaguer Cole Irvin asked to come on my podcast, and I set the record time for 5 p.m., completely forgetting about the draft. I'll nominate guys later to fill any holes I still have on the roster, but I also can't wait to start trading again! - Jason
-
Let me just remind everyone that in our charter we follow ottoneu rule 1a) which states you must maintain a roster of 18 major league players who can fill out your starting lineups at all times. In other words, it is against the rules to only hoard minor leaguers so keep this in mind if you're already keeping a fair amount of prospects entering the draft. With the MiLB rosters I am less worried about this rule becoming an issue but just thought I'd remind everyone.
-
One last important note I thought of: Reminder that of course you can nominate minor leaguers in tomorrow's draft. After the draft, the players which will be available in the MiLB draft will be those that are 1). not on a roster (obviously) and 2). do not have any Major League PA/Batters Faced.
