Thank you, Commish, for your great leadership, both in and out of the weeds. Makes the league enjoyable, year round. Now, with Juan Soto comfortably set for life, the hot stove league can really heat up.
-
Aside from the playoffs question, most of these issues are pretty deep in the weeds. I appreciate your votes and your interest. The Effectively Wild Fans governing charter is a living document, and I am grateful for you all helping it keep up with the times.
Now, on to trade season!

The final issue was whether stolen bases and caught stealings should qualify an MiLB-rostered player for their debut. This proposal was approved 8-4, and I have edited the charter to include those alternative debut conditions.

The fourth issue was whether owners should be allowed to cut MiLB players mid-season. We have not allowed it in the past, though the charter does not have an explicit statement on it. The absence of a mechanism for cuts was interpreted to mean that cuts weren't allowed. The result was 6-6, which means that the traditional interpretation of the charter will now be explicitly included, and mid-season cuts will not be allowed.

The third vote was on whether MiLB-eligible players who are cut during the MiLB draft window should be draftable. 10 owners said they should not be. This rule is a clarification of an existing rule, so I've included a note address this specific scenario in the charter.

The second issue was whether international signees expected to debut in MLB should be eligible for the MiLB draft. The existing rule said that they were not eligible, so this would've required 8 votes in favor of allowing eligibility. It was approved by 4/12 owners, so the rule remains unchanged. Roki Sasaki and his ilk remain ineligible for MiLB drafting.

Hey everyone, thanks for your votes in our "winter meetings." As a reminder, any rule change needs 8/12 owners to approve a change.
The biggest proposal was including playoffs. The result was 6-6, a tie. Since it didn't reach 8 votes in favor, we won't have playoffs this coming season. We can revisit this in a year if people are still interested.

Hi, my name is Alex. I have been playing fantasy baseball for 20 years, but this is my first crack at Ottoneu.

Welcome to the EW Fans 2024 winter meetings! It's a Google Form!
There is one very big question about whether we should implement playoffs. Then there's 4 possible rule revisions about the MiLB draft based on edge cases from the past couple years. If the playoff rule change is approved, we'd have more voting on how that would work. Let me know any questions you have about the form!

Hey folks, it's been two years since our last "winter meeting." If you have any rules from our charter you'd like to add or edit, please let me know so I can form a poll on possible league rule changes soon.
Here's a link to the charter: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZvjfDSJ--9fXNefZdh3509QIyrnN6Trxfbroasi00TY/edit?usp=sharing

I've put a couple players up on the block, most notably, Austin Riley. Let the off-season begin!
-
When doing arbitration, remember to scroll down and hit "save" before leaving each team's roster list. If you don't, you'll have to do it over. Phil laughed and laughed at me as I muttered while I re-entered three team's arb figures. Very humiliating...don't suffer the same fate, folks.
-
Hi folks, arbitration is open. I encourage you to submit as soon as possible; you can always edit your selections as long as you do it by November 14th.
Please let me know if you're not planning to continue with the league next season. I already know at least one owner plans to leave following arbitration, but I'd like to know how many new owners I need to find.
Also, if you have someone who you think would be a good fit for the league, let me know.

Thank you all! Cheers to a fun season and looking forward to defending the title next year.
-
Thanks everyone for a great season. Biggest props to Thunder Gun for climbing the mountain once again in decisive fashion. Personally, getting a runner-up three-peat is pretty funny.
Mostly I appreciate that this isn't a league where half the participants disengage by the end of April. Thanks for your engagement and responsiveness, and I'm excited for another dynamic off-season. Enjoy taking in some postseason baseball today!

Around the horn! Congrats to Thunder Gun on a well deserved championship. And to the Commish for his sustained excellency and orchestration of this fun and competitive league. Cheers to 2024 and optimism for 2025!

Congrats Thunder Gun! Great season and team. Captains tried to hang with you, but couldn’t.
Thanks to the league for a fun season and to the best commissioner.
-
Congratulations Thunder Gun on a very strong season! Impressive your consistency.
Thanks, Commish, for excellent organization, another 2nd spot and the most creative call-up announcements in all of fantasy baseball.
Phil and I had a blast this season with all of you! Enjoy the playoffs!

Congrats to Effectively Mediocre on Kevin Alcantara's debut.
I imagine they hope he (Al)can-tear-it up on the diamond

This afternoon, the famously-healthy Kumar Rocker of The Infirmary gets the start for the Rangers in the final game played in Oakland. That's the answer to a trivia game some day...
-
Yep. Looking at the banner on top of the league home page, the final day of the Ottoneu season is now September 30th

So the Mets and Braves now will play a DH on Monday afternoon. Adds to playoff chase drama on both Sunday and now Monday. Creates an extra day for Ottoneu... assume Niv can handle the extra day of scoring, right?
-
Incredible work there, Banter -- good thing he's not a Red Sox prospect anymore
-
It's Nick Yorke,
infield prospect that dreams are made of,
there's nothing he can't do.
Now you've got Nick Yorke.
His WRC+ will make you feel brand new,
His BABIP will inspire you.
Let's hear it for Nick Yorke

"Get Saggy," Phil snarled into the receiver.
"I should do what now?" asked the All Stars' GM, disconcerted.
"Call up Tom Saggy! We're not gonna catch those jerks from Shelbyville without him."
"Phil, do you... mean Thomas Saggese?"
"That's what I said. Now stop yappin' and start callin'"
Congrats to the All Stars on Thomas Saggese's debut!

"Iriarte just debuted for the MVP Machines."
"Oh, you mean the 17th century Spanish painter, Ignacio de Iriarte?"
"No, I mean Jairo Iriarte, the 21st century Venezuelan baseball player."
"That's too bad. For a second there I thought a landscape painter from Gipuzkoa had conquered death..."
"No. Sorry."
Congrats to MVP Machines on the debut!

"He's actually the first MLB player in history named Rhett. Isn't that weird?"
"I can't hear you. Say it louder."
"Sorry. Rhett LOWDER is the first MLB player named Rhett."
Congrats to the North Shore Captains for making history with Lowder's debut.

Following his debut, the MVP Machines add Jeff to the roster, hoping that he will not Cris poorly. They'd prefer that he Criswell.

Is anyone interested in trading for Fernando Tatis? I don't think I can keep all 3 of my high-priced position players. Since he's injured now, you're not guaranteed to get anything from him this season, but you're paying to have him next year.

I guess I should have asked for some physicals before that Yelich trade...
-
Back at it today, guys. Good luck the rest of the season. Phil is admiring each of you from the back of the pack.
-
The Slogs will brook no compromise; they're promoting Brooks Lee to the big league roster following his debut whether you like it or not.
-
Hello all. Today I’m leaving the country for two months and will not have reliable internet access. After a suitable training period, my father-in-law has been promoted from our AAA affiliate the Springfield Tire Fires. He will be managing day-to-day operations but isn’t authorized to make or accept trades, so no need to send offers. I’ll be back in the second week of August so it will be after the trade deadline so no bidding war for Gary Sanchez :(
-
I didn't realize Orelvis Martinez had debuted until today when I saw he'd been suspended.
So congrats to the MVP Machines on Orelvis' debut! Also, you're not allowed to use him!

The last time I went Norbin I threw my back out for a week, but was I Dunn with my shenanigans?
Actually yes. Those muscle relaxers really put me down,
-
The Figures aren't Dunn. In fact, they've just begun following Blake debut.
-
The best part of Connor Norby's debut was when he said "IT'S NORBIN' TIME!" and Norbed all over those guys. Truly one of the players of all time.
-
Also, Bryan Ramos has debuted with the North Shore Captains, and I am punless.
-
Thunder Gun leaves no Manzardo behind.
-
He may not be like Mike (Trout), but Jordan's been Beckoned to join the All-Stars as his replacement anyway.
-
The Shelbyville club faced a clase call but this player will help a (Jona)TON. It's Jonatan Clase making his debut for the Shelbyvillians!
And before you worry about that nasty figure emerging from the shadows, you may nick those fears right in the bud; it's just Nick Nastrini debuting for the league's most crepuscular crew!

When the Machines need an MVP, it's Foscue to the rescue. Justin's on the roster following his debut.
