Reminder to discuss salary cap ideas. Hard cap? Soft cap? What are the penalties? Senor Smoke has presented one idea, but now is the time to discuss what type of cap rules we want.

I hadn’t thought it through that far, but that does sound like the cleanest, most simple way to do it.

This isn’t me endorsing the idea, I’ll do what league wants, but this idea can work logistically at least for draft period. I can control what every team’s salary cap is in Couchmanagers.
I’m assuming in this example, you can only draft $375, but after than can acquire players to increase cap? But would have those penalties if you end season over cap?West Richfield Street Turkeys on December 5, 2024 10:53 AM

On the cap, I agree that the changes to the MiLB rosters/draft make it so using picks as penalties doesn't make as much sense anymore. This might be an extreme idea, but how penalties that impact a team's starting salary the next season? So maybe like 25% of your overage gets reduced from the standard $400 starting point. Basically, if you end 2025 with a $500 salary, you're starting 2026 with only $375 to spend instead of $400. Not sure how that would be implemented/what's possible.

Fine by me!

I think that’s a good compromise. It’s just easier to keep everything on MiLB unable to be drafted, but if teams agree that they’ll trade/acquire a player that will be on MLB team with a salary rather than MiLB team. That’s fine. I think! Haha

I vote for no trading of guys on minor league rosters, but we could leave open the possibility to promote a guy to your main roster, even if he hasn't debuted, and then deal him. The acquiring team has to be willing to add that player directly to their active roster. I'm thinking this would benefit rebuilding teams trying to acquire more younger/cheaper talent (as opposed to completely "locking" these MiLB guys up from trades), but perhaps I haven't thought it all the way through.

To be fair, in defense of Abe's point, in this example, if both owners have room on their MiLB roster to do that, why is that not clean? If in that instance, I'm giving him someone I don't value as much, but he does and he has room for it and wants to trade me an MLB asset in return, isn't that the point of a lot of our trades, that is to get younger/cheaper or a more established/known commodity?

At this point I'll leave it as no trades - picks or players - to keep it clean and also avoid any exposing of loopholes (draft this guy for me and I'll trade you someone). I'm open to discussing it, but that is my thought as of now.

I think people should be able to trade MiLB players if they have/make space on their 5 man roster. I don't think people should be able to trade picks though.
