Not a problem. Best way to check is to go to the main page and make sure there is $0 next to your team.
-
Oh, then I did a mistake... Shit. The system said, that I allocated all my Bucks.
-
Trading should now be open for anyone who is really gung ho. I hope to get the dispersal draft done for our new owners over the next few days so their teams will be set and they can join in the fun. For the moment, Chicago Orphans and Dr. Boom should be considered empty teams. Any questions, let me know.
-
Hi all. Ok, so we had almost complete participation in arb. Nippes, because you did not allocate all $25, none of the arb you did counts (that's just how the system works). No big deal. For everyone else, Nippes partial arb will show up in the list of arb dollars, but will NOT be added to the salary of the players themselves.
-
Also, just FYI, you may see the arb assigned to your teams change as the new owners make changes to what the proxy owners did.
-
Good news all. We have two new owners who are now assigned to each of Dr. Boom and Chicago Whales. After arb is over, we will be clearing their teams and doing a dispersal draft of the players on those teams. Hopefully, we can get that done in a couple of days so trading can begin in earnest.
-
OK, down to two teams needing to do arb. Deadline is tomorrow (Saturday) midnight eastern.
-
It is possible to reduce the number of teams just by leaving the existing teams empty, but I would consider that a last option if we can't find new owners as we head into January.
-
I do not know if it is possible, but if needed I am ok with going with 10 teams instead of the usual 12. The players for the two teams could just go back into the draft and should be fair if decision is made before the rosters are frozen.

Now the only problem is finding the people to take those teams.

No issues with what is proposed for the replacement teams/owners

No objections to a dispersal draft, provided it doesn't over-complicate the process of adding new owners. Sounds like Commish is on top of it.

It would not affect existing teams. Basically, the two new owners would start with zero players and would draft the players on the two teams that are available. This is an effective way to add new owners if an available team is particularly weak since no new owner has to take the weak team, rather each new owner gets a chance to "build" his team from the players on all the open teams.
-
What do you mean by a dispersal draft? How would that work?

Ok, now we have two open teams as the Whales informed me they will not return next year either. I am open to offering these teams individually, but also to the idea of a dispersal draft of the players on both teams for the two new owners. Obviously, this would take place after arbitration. I might find a couple of people to do arbitration for the two abandoned teams so that every team does it, and then get new owners in for a dispersal draft. Thoughts?
-
But now, back to fantasy baseball. It appears that we have an open team as Dr. Boom has not checked in since late September and did not respond to an email I sent this week. If anyone knows someone who is looking to get into this crazy hobby, let me know. Otherwise, I will start the search for a new owner who we can hopefully get in place before arbitration ends.

Hope everyone enjoyed the World Series. Even though I am a big believer in modern analytical methods, sometimes you have to look up from the computer and see what is happening right in front of you. Cash's decision was bad. Somehow I think only he and the Rays' higher-ups thought it would work out well. The Dodgers should consider voting him a World Series share.
-
Kevin Cash really played it by the spreadsheet last night. I think it cost them the game.

I think the real battle is after 2021 when the collective bargaining agreement expires. Given all that is happening, it is bound to be a doozy.

In for 2021. Fingers crossed we'll have a season worth following. Will be an interesting offseason... I'm bracing for another labor battle, one that could very well be intensified by what may develop as a frozen free agent market.

And, on that note, if anyone is not planning on coming back for the 2021 season, please let me know as soon as possible so we can get a new owner in with enough time to complete arb. If you are not sure of your plans, let me know that as well, and we can hopefully have you do arb and then decide your ultimate plan later. In any event, enjoy the rest of the playoffs and the World Series!
-
Hi all. Hope everyone is enjoying the playoffs. Just wanted to drop in and post a message about arbitration. It starts today and runs for a month through November 14th. Obviously no need to do it right now, but I am a big believer that arb is a big part of maintaining the competitive balance of Ottoneu, so I will be sending several reminders as the month goes along.
-
Yeah, Twins fan here...that is what happens in a sport that allows rich teams to spend whatever...so it is what it is...at least we are in the playoffs a lot...I guess

Tom Tango has an interesting white paper on Statcast's outs above average (OAA). Google Tom Tango History of the Fielding to find it. I don't know too much about defensive metrics, but what I've read about OAA makes a lot of sense. Give it a read and see if you can poke holes into assumptions and the methodology.

I'm with PTBNL on the MVP side. I think Freeman has a strong case in the NL, and it's anyone's guess in the AL. The WAR difference between Abreu and JRam seems to be nearly entirely due to defensive metrics, and there is no agreement across various defensive stats on who had the better season.

Darvish also has a slight edge in IP (76 vs. 73), albeit in one more start (12 vs. 11). Darvish finishes second in the league in K/BB (6.64) while Bauer finishes third (5.88). In any event, there are strong cases either way, and I wouldn't knock anyone picking one over the other.

In terms of NL Cy Young, I might give the edge to Darvish. Bauer has a compelling case; he wins the ERA crown (1.73 vs. 2.01), has a solid edge in K% (36.0% vs. 31.3%) and K-BB% (29.9% vs. 26.6%), and averaged more IP / start (~6 2/3 vs. ~6 1/3). But he was also the beneficiary of a .215 BABIP, and 8 of the 9 HRs he allowed were solos. With a little worse luck and a little more untimely sequencing, the ERA case tilts to Darvish.

Do we have any Twins fans in the league? What's it like to lose 17 postseason games in a row?

I'm rooting for the White Sox in the AL. Fandom aside, I have a World Series bet on the Rays so they'd be my backup. On the NL, I have the Reds. In these short series, Bauer, Gray and Castillo can be dangerous. Plus if the bats heat up...For the awards, AL CY is locked up, I think Abreu should win MVP and then Bauer and I suppose Freddie Freeman for MVP.

I honestly don't know who to root for in the playoffs. I think I would like to see a random World Series that could only happen in 2020. White Sox vs. Padres with all the young stars those teams have would be fun. As for awards, I am predicting Bieber and Bauer (close over Yu) for Cy; Freddie Freeman for NL MVP; and I have no idea for AL MVP. I will guess Jose Abreu, but could easily be JRam or DJLM or Bieber.
-
Now that October is nearly here, maybe some fun polling questions: 1) who are you rooting for in the playoffs, and who's your pick for MVP & Cy Young in both leagues. I think the only one that's no brainer is Bieber for AL Cy.

Thanks, TPTBNL, its great to finally break through after all those 2nd place finishes. The last week was a nail biter. RT was a strong challenger and very nearly pulled it off.

Lesbos is an island in Greece, where the term lesbian originated. A eunuch is a man who has been castrated. I have used this name for my fantasy baseball teams for 25+ years. There you have it, GGM.

I like Jared Diamond, and those stats are amazing, especially the three-true-outcome state. 36%, wow.

That first post should read starters are just recording *14* outs an outing (4 2/3 IP) [I wish there was an edit feature here]

And finally, plate appearances are ending with a "three true outcome" (HR, K, BB) 36% of the time, up from last year's record of 35.1%.

Hitters have a collective batting average of .242 (down from .252 last year), the 3rd worst in history. Only in 1967 and 1968, right before the mound was lowered, were worse. Batters are striking out in 23.2% of PAs, setting a new high for the 13th season in a row. Home runs are down (1.31 per game, vs. 1.39 last year) (I read a separate article on Baseball Prospectus indicating this year's ball is less aerodynamic). Batters are seeing 3.95 pitches per PA, breaking last year's record of 3.92.

Do any of you read Jared Diamond of the WSJ? I find he covers the game very well. He wrote a very interesting article today with some stats on the "modern" game. Some takeaways: the average 9-inning game is 3:07, up 2 min from last year's record setting pace (and up 7 min from 2018). Teams are trotting out 4.6 pitchers per game, a number that has been increasing since 2015. Starters are just recording outs an outing (4 2/3 IP), setting a new low each of the past 4 seasons.
