I agree with you on the benefits having a little leeway between draft and the start of the season
-
Sunday evening Feb 18?
-
Wow, looks like everyone renewed! Let’s start talking auction draft date, my preference would be as soon as everyone is comfortable, late February? Season starts March 20, gives us some time for free agency during Spring Training and making trades.
-
Congrats to Cronengirth for having a question about his team lead off the Keep or Kut podcast at PitchCon!

I think Houston is good fit but could trade a relief pitcher as well!
-
Is anyone interested in the new Astro Josh Hader?
-
I suppose you were booing quite a bit when you heard Ohtani signed with the Dodgers?

Ditto for Severinos contract too.
-
I only like the 1 year opt out option. Manae will now be top 35 pitcher salary wise but has been steadily declining. Eduardo Rodriguez's deal wasn't that much more.
-
Nice signing by the Mets, they are finally playing it smart. I guess losing $600m over the past three seasons made them realize.
-
Welcome to BCL Boo Birds! Wouldn’t happen to be a Philly fan?
-
Hi all - I've just taken over the team formerly known as Wham Bam Goodbye Sam. Looks like a fun & active league so I'm excited to join! I'm very active so always happy to receive offers and enquiries.

If any of your $30+ players are available at a discount let us (or me haha) know!
-
Anyone looking to make any final moves before the deadline?
-
Still looking to shed a bit more salary and have some quality players available. Freddie Freeman, Corey Seager, Nolan Arenado, Gerrit Cole, Aaron Nola, Shane Bieber, Josh Hader... Let me know if you're interested!
-
If anyone has a Black Friday deal on some good pitching let me know!
-
Been crazy busy the last few weeks but I'm diving back into baseball now. Ready to get the trades flowing!
-
Finally got around to reading messages and abandoning Papi’s team. Trade window should open this coming week with no salary cap consequences. This can be one of the more fun and pivotal times for your team next year. Update your trade block if you would like to get preliminary talks going.

Really sorry to hear that papi, wishing you the best going forward.
-
Really sad to see you go. You're definitely not letting us down. Wishing you the best of health moving forward and hope to see you down the road sometime in the future!
-
Please abandon this team. I was victim of a stroke on Sep 15, so I will have to quit my part time job losing my Ottoneu spending money, anyway don't have the same energy to manage so many leagues, will be quiting many leagues. Sorry to let you down guys, thanks.

Thank you! 7 years of playing Ottoneu and I finally got my first championship! Props to Walnut for making me sweat until the very end. Now to start what is going to likely be a very painful rebuild!
-
Congrats Squirrels! I just couldn’t hang with you to the end and the better team truly did come out on top.
-
Congrats, Squirrels! Nice job by Walnut Hill keeping it close til the end
-
Congrats to the Flying Squirrels on winning the League Championship!!!
-
That’s frustrating but I don’t think you have much to worry about, will be hard to overcome a 300 point deficit in 2 days!
-
I'm about to lose my final day of pitching that I had planned because Gerrit Cole is going to pitch a full 9 innings.
-
My intention wasn’t addressing 60d IL players. My concern is of the most extreme case: what if an owner bid on every single free agent right before the season ended?

I know the strategy Devon mentioned is something used in Ottoneu (Chad Young even had an instruction article on how to do it last year). I'm not opposed to limiting that. But, we shouldn't punish people using the rules as intended. I have 4 60-Day IL players and no obvious cuts.
The keeper deadline being Jan. 31 also minimizes the effectiveness of that strategy. Hard to know more about a player's potential before spring training even starts.

Also, I feel like any decent player on the 60IL is already on a roster. If one of those players did get cut, it’s likely because their salary is too high. If someone wants to scoop up all the $5 Anthony Rendons out there, I’m ok taking the L if he somehow becomes worth that price in the off-season
-
I’m pretty sure MLB teams have to remove the 60IL designation sometime in the off-season. So if a manager did do what Devon just proposed, they would have to cut most of them before the cut deadline in January
-
There are over fifty 60 day IL free agents that are at least 1% owned. In theory a team with extra cap like myself or papi could pick up a ridiculous number of 60 day IL players just on hopes that 1 of 20 gets positive off season news. Most if not all 60 day IL'ers are worth less than arbitration but just putting that put there to consider
-
That's a good question, if there are no limits normally, then I'm fine with that too. I can't remember if 60 day IL stuff automatically gets removed in the offseason or not.
-
I'm a little confused. What's the behavior we'd be trying to curtail with a new rule? Isn't the reason there's no roster size penalty in the off-season so you are not punished for all 60-day IL designations being removed automatically?

I would not be against a cap on 60 day IL players. Otherwise will pick more IL guys
-
I agree with the normal 40 non 60 day IL players. Unless someone has a very compelling argument for something different.
-
I do think no matter the limit, teams should be legal (40 non 60 day IL players)
-
45? I am biased with E Diaz on my team but do think carrying over some 60 day IL people should be allowed.
-
What does everyone think regarding roster limit size for the offseason?

If RA Dickey didn't exist I think Tim Wakefield would have possible pathway to hall of fame. There aren't any real pitcher hitters to compare Ohthani to. Closest comp i can think is mad bum who was/is a pitcher that can hit. Ohthani for 5 seasons was a genuine 2 way player that would start on every team in mlb both sides. The hall is for the best at each position or skill and do think 2 way unique skill.
-
So many things wrong with that statement. Where to begin......
Winnetka Twins on

If he retired this season I think Ohthani should get an exception for 5 years hitting, 5 years pitching. And he should get in as best pitcher hitter because there are so few comparisons. kind of like how Devin Hester will eventually get into the football hall of fame as a kick returner.
-
Since the HoF requires a minimum of ten years MLB service time for admission, 0htani won't be getting in any time soon. Unless he shells out the twenty-eight bucks for the entrance fee like the rest of us.
As for his never playing in the post season, there's a bunch of Hall of Famers (about 10 or 12?) who never did.

Sorry I didn’t include his nearly 12 fWAR for pitching so he’s over 31 total fWAR. Better than I initially thought but I think still some way for him to go. If he could get to something closer to 50 fWAR over a 10 year stretch that might be a good enough peak.
-
I love Ohtani and he is definitely on a HOF track but not there yet. About 20 career fWAR so far. Are we really prepared to put him into the company of Edgar Martinez, Frank Thomas, Harold Baines and David Ortiz? Ohtani is close to having the right kind of “peak” necessary but the longevity just isn’t there yet. If he’s going to not be viewed as a DH I think he needs to come back from this UCL injury and pitch well for a little while still. He’s very unique and I love the guy, just not there yet
-
I think it's just a question of how many ballots. He's -30,000 odds to win MVP this year and that should clinch it
-
I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already HOF bound but regardless doubt that he needs 6-8 more really good years. 1 or 2 probably clinches it.
-
Ohtani isn't in the Hall of Fame yet, let alone undisputed. Well on his way, but still needs to put in 6-8 more very good years.

Ohthani is crazier for going out of his way to pick the angels. Ohthani and Trout are undisputed hall of famers even if they retired today, but I wonder if anyone in the HOF has less post season experience.
