Also, let’s avoid the revisionist history. You made the 2Rileys trade on April 18.

Yes Fred, you bought high and sold low based on a week over-performance and a month under-performance, as an emotional response to what other people did, and because you thought McKinstry was a “going for it” move. Again, I’m surprised you’re reminding us of all this.

The confluence of losing May and Roberts with big splash trades made by others was too much to overcome .
-
Iglascious trade with Brent, and Conforto Grienke trade with Pat ...all those pretty much had me in s next year thinking mode
-
After realizing I could not trade my prospects ( no takers) for help me now guys , I folded my hand early June and did Cole bellringer correa trade with Charles.
-
That was May, Riley was in precipice of being sent down, I was going for it, Bellinger went down , mckinstry was getting all his at bats and was hot . He got hurt the day after I got him from Henry. Before the massive five all star trades going to Bat trades , I was in first or second for several weeks.
-
Uh, Fred, reminding us you traded Austin Riley *and* Riley Greene for Zach effing McKinstry kinda works against your previous post. Of course we’re going to send you random offers!

I had a full stable of prospects only a year or so away ( wish I still had Riley Greene )

I am not looking to add 2023/2024 arrivals right now for guys that are up and I am intending to keep. There are plenty of those on FA and who is to say which pay off and which don't ? It would foolish to trade a known guy with cheap contract and upside for two 19 year olds at single A ( or lower ).

His name should be CJ Crom, given his barely cromulent production

Thanks. There's a length limit, so the "perfectly" wouldn't fit, but I had to do it anyway.

Hook, well-played. Probably my favorite team name in league history!
-
While Burnes amassed 78 points , old Wainwright was not far behind with 75 ( vs. the Pirates ) .
-
Corbin Burnes not only struck out 15 last night , but struck out 10 in a row while walking none . True it was vs. the AAA Cubs , but still amazing .
-
At this point , I think Bartolo Colon would be an upgrade to Jake Arrieta .

The White Sox announced Wednesday that they’ve placed lefty Carlos Rodon on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 8, due to left shoulder fatigue. Lance Lynn will be the starter on Thursday .
-
The White Sox announced Monday that they’ve reinstated center fielder Luis Robert from the 60-day injured list. Outfielder/first baseman Gavin Sheets was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte in order to open a spot on the active roster
-
Luis Robert to return this week. Carlos Rodon the starter for field of dreams game Thursday 6:15 central time.
-
Robles generally has been starting, but he’s been absolutely horrible.
-
And somehow I managed to not start Morton against them (in Capped). Is Robles not a regular starter these days?

Other than Escobar, who was an emergency signing, Josh Bell is the only position player in the Nationals’ lineup who was a starter three weeks ago.

On my side, my wife recently went to her sister's baby shower. We are all vaccinated, but we knew (unfortunately) that there would be some aunts and cousins at that shower who would definitely not be. After some thought, my wife decided to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Turns out that someone at that shower did come down with COVID, but thankfully not the sister, and the aunts and cousins got lucky.

Now that the auction is over…was anyone watching the Nats game? (And is that really FP I hear?) Because Yadiel Hernandez took a shot at 1B that looked more like a forward emphatically denying the lane to an irritating little guard than anything you usually see on a baseball field. Seems okay though.

Unless you’re using “likely” like we defined it in the endangered species world, to mean “I can imagine this happening”, but not like ordinary humans understand it.

So you think the vaccines don’t work? Because there’s no way to say “yes, I think the vaccines work AND there was an exposure situation where I, a fully vaccinated person, was ‘very likely’ to contract the disease.” That’s just nonsense.

Why Patrick, I think you’ve very succinctly identified the core of any issues we’ve had with each of over the last 25 years. You often felt that endangered species biologists were being unreasonable about the risks when you had little idea of the conditions resulting those risks. As has always been the case, I stand by my position 🙄
-
Perhaps I need to make it clear I was joking. But this gives me a chance to note: 2nd Story HR! He must be disconsolate by now. And as hoped Hilliard has joined the party.

Charles is only interested in prospects to flip, and therefore prospects with a lot of hype/notoriety about them. It goes against his nature to stash away and let ripen at a latter date.
-
Charles told me he’d be especially interested in prospects, so I guess I’m out of luck. But I encourage all of you to send him great offers with as little 2021 value as possible! ps: disillusioned Trevor Story HR! It probably made him sad.

You may have been exposed to it (chances are most of us have!) but THE VACCINES WORK. No, they don’t work perfectly, but one rare event happening doesn’t make it “likely” it’ll happen again. I agree with your general message—keep being careful, wear a mask indoors, avoid indoor groups of more than 6 or 8 people (admittedly #s I’ve made up for myself), don’t get on a plane if you can help it. But we escape the pandemic when the idiots get vaccinated. A message that suggests the jabs don’t work…

I appreciate some of it. But for those of you who don’t know and love ES biologists like I do, you should know that one thing they’re not good at (often not temperamentally inclined to even try) is actually quantifying risk. (They are good at identifying worst case scenarios though, and that’s sometimes their job.) Mike you’re better than most but this sentence “I very likely would have contracted the delta as well” is just wrong assuming common-sense meanings of “likely” and “contracted.”

Thanks Mikey I appreciate it. Being in the hotel industry I have to keep not only the guest safe, but the team safe too from the guest. But I think this Delta Variant is going to send us into another lockdown.

...If it had been delayed, given the conditions under which we met, I very likely would have contracted the delta as well. As an endangered species biologist, I’d like to impress upon everyone, particularly the non-biologists in this group, that you need to be more careful than you might think. This is much more serious than most people recognize. Sorry guys, but seriously, this may be life or death.
-
I apologize for the seriousness of this post, but as a biologist I feel I need to say this. Over the last few weeks we’ve had three fully vaccinated people who consider themselves to be extremely careful, become infected with the delta virus. One is exhibiting symptoms of a “long-termer” (extreme fatigue for an extended period of time). I came in contact with this person 15 hours after he was infected. Our meeting was almost delayed 2 1/2 days....
-
Who was it who said he “seldom look at Single A or R unless someone jumps off the page with their performance and I see a quick path to MLB” (July 27, 11:41 a.m.)? ETA for House is 2025? 2026?

I knew if I kept nominating 2021 draftees, eventually Mikey would let one go through. Surprised its a national though

Agreed then. (And at least Betts is actually playing 2B, not just swapping out his mitt for a play or 2!) It was fun when Freddie was a 3B for a year and a half, and it would definitely be fun if Trae is an OF again. Even on my team if Conforto and Bellinger didn’t suck worse than Story and Lindor I could see using Betts at MI, but not the way they’re all going. I already have one LAD MI/OF better than Story that I usually have to use in the OF.

Zero argument, just that its a nice bonus getting 2b, like when Rizzo did a few years back
-
Brew, what’s your actual argument here? If it’s “Betts is better than Story,” well, okay. If it’s “Story is pissed b/c he wasn’t traded so he’s definitely going to suck, even though there’s no evidence of that yet he’ll in fact suck so bad you’ll want to start (presumably happy) Conforto instead” then you might want to wait for the results to at least start to reflect your, um, story.

I'd start all my pitchers vs cubs unless wind is gale storm blowing out
-
If you want to.look at 7 games , Miggy Cabrera has a 1500 ops
-
Thanks for the reminder about the Cubs—I finally put Hilliard into the lineup. Hot days at home against bad pitchers is the only reason I’ve held on to him. If I end up losing by 20 points it’ll be because I forgot about Hilliard against the Cubs. Among many other reasons.

Sure, it’s a meaningless sample (see: Straw)…so you’re basing your “gotta sit him” recommendation on his 5 ppg for the season? (Or maybe on some silly narrative?) He’s definitely not worth his salary but he’s not the guy to sit if it means playing Conforto. Though it’ll be an interesting “which one of these guys is worse?” competition when Lindor is back.
