Congrats to the top finishers. I want to also thank y'all for a great season - this was my first season of Ottoneu and I love the format and have been proselytizing to any and all fantasy friends who haven't tried it. This league was incredibly generous with time and patient as I learned the ropes, so thanks again. I look forward to the off-season with y'all. Now let's see if my Twins can win a playoff game...
-
Congrats Buxton on a great season and hats off to Orlando for finishing 2nd.

I think the Red Sox have some high upside prospects and are less than 3-4 years away as well. I do wonder how long the Red Sox can operate under that budget. There revenues are not that high compared to the Yankees, Dodgers or even the Cubs. I have made known regarding my suspicions about the Red Sox ownership and there use of funds.

Also strongly disagree that they are min 3-4 years away. A team with a budget like the Red Sox is never really 3-4 years away, and a .500 team that has their budget certainly isn't that far away if they make the right moves.
-
I wasn't surprised by the firing, but don't think it was the right decision. He came into a rough situation. He got them to the ALCS in 2021 when they had no business even making the postseason with that team. Has since I think overperformed through a rebuild (retool?). They have performed almost exactly as I expected this year and has done a good job replenishing their farm system that was decimated by Dombroski (though I don't hate Dave, he got us that 2018 superteam).
-
Maybe bloom wanted out. Agreed they are exceeding expectations and still in last place. They are min 3-4 years away from having chance.
-
Thanks for the article. But I'm going to go back to Dombroski. It was he that went all in and gutted the Red Sox farm system, left them with a bloated and overpaid roster that needed a complete overhaul. It is of my opinion that the Red Sox have massively exceeded rational expectations. In addition, in short order, Bloom has rebuilt the farm system admirably.

agree it seems a bit odd. this article puts it in an understandable perspective (even if still a peculiar decision that doesn't really make a ton of sense), but seems like maybe Cora (and fans and current/former players) didn't like him. https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2023/09/analysis-why-chaim-bloom-was-fired-and-what-it-means-for-red-sox-alex-cora-cotillo.html

Does anyone else find the Chaim Bloom firing peculiar? I think he has done an outstanding job given the hand he was dealt.

Your lineup has been so hot it is getting to the point where it doesn’t matter.

I knew I shouldn't have started Gio. Leave it to me to spoil a 72 point start by Steele with a -35 start by Gio.

Quite possibly? Nearly 20 P/G during that stretch. Maybe a week where Ohtani went nuts at the plate and pitched two good games would be better. I seem to remember him having close to a 100 point single day earlier this season. Probably the only way to get close to what J-Rod has done lately.

There are 2 owners over here, 1 is currently on vacation. Sometimes it will take us some time to sync up on trades.
-
Possibly, everyone has their own schedule, but it has been five days now.

Maybe they've just been busy? I know I've had times where I'm super busy and I take time to get on and set my lineups but ignore messages or trades for a few days.
-
Has anyone tried to trade or dm with Maeda since the beginning of the year? I offered a trade 4 days ago, then messaged them 2 days ago and received no reply, yet they have been on site each of those days including this morning.

Did anyone else see that J-Rod robbery of Tatis and the slow "reveal" of the ball? I love stuff like that. The game needs more of these young studs just out there having fun and putting on a show while doing it.

I just checked Buxton's updated trade block and LOL'd. well done.
-
I don't have any real issues w Anderson prior to this, but if you square up first, you better keep your hands up. So rare to see actual fisticuffs and not just pushing and holding each other back. And LOL of COURSE Eloy somehow came away w a mild injury. Good fun!
-
I consider myself pretty non old school and I also 100% think Tim Anderson has had it coming for a while.
-
Maybe I'm just the old school type but feel like Anderson's had it coming for a while and probably deserves worse. Seems like he's all bark no bite after watching that. That was more of a closed palm slap since he didn't properly turn his wrist in and still dropped him. I loved Pitching Ninja's breakdown. The punch had 20 inches of horizontal break, 5 inches of vertical break and Anderson had about 70 inches of drop!

That was a fun watch. I wonder how many games they’ll get suspended for. They basically decided to have a fist fight at second base. Ten games?
-
The whole thing lasted 27 minutes.
-
If you guys get a chance check out the White Sox Guardians game. A huge fight occurred. Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson, Ramirez hit Anderson squarely on the chin and knocked him on his ass.
-
White Sox went half-assed. They should have unquestionably blown it all up, Cease, Eloy, Robert..... and then some. They have a bottom five farm system and their "young" core are not so young anymore.
-
I also hope the White Sox blow it all up, I think the cubs should trade bellinger, i love that love that the rangers are going for it, and just hope the Astros don't cheat. Eventhoigh its been years, the cheating still has effect on my Astros fanship. Way worse rhan steroids
-
Hope the orioles could add pitching. I think they’ve been lucky. No rentals though, only if they have another couple years of control.
-
Do the Nationals have anyone a team would desire. Maybe Finnegan, Thomas, Meneses? If so move em. You’re years from competing
-
I'm fine with the Red Sox mostly standing pat. Grabbing a few bullpen arms as they have done is good, and it's not like they have any super valuable pieces to sell; I just hope they don't let this recent good performance trick them into buying big at all.
-
I'm in agreement re. Twins. I'd be okay with them trading Kep to make space for more Wallner or a bat that hits lefties well. I don't hate Kep and he's been useful this year, but he's blocking others, he's been streaky, and his unwillingness to play CF has kinda decreased his utility to the team and made us more reliant on Taylor, who has been really helpful for the team in Buxton's DH year, but still. Feels weird to not be desperately in need of SP for once!
-
If I were the Cardinals GM, I would shop Arenado and Goldschmidt. There are not very many sellers and there is an opportunity to dive into the prospect rich Dodgers for example (Arenado in this case). White Sox should trade everyone, they have one of the worst farm systems in the majors and they need a total reboot. The Yankees should sell as well, probably the only interest teams would have would be their bullpen.
-
Anyone have thoughts on their favorite team's stance on the trade deadline? For me, I would like the Cubs to trade Stroman for sure, Bellinger if they could get a boatload. I would like the Twins NOT to make any major moves and just pick up a few bullpen pieces.
-
I bet that was fun. Is that somewhat like the Bleachers section in Wrigley?
-
I was at the Twins-Sox game on Sunday. Hot as hell out there in the homerun porch, but a fun extra-innings win for the home team.
-
I am fair weather Chicago fan. Sox future is looking bleak, hoping they sell players now for the future.
-
Good weekend thus far, Cubs 2-0 vs Cards, Twins 2-0 vs White Sox.
-
I remember Red Sox fans being all giddy about getting Jay Groome with all the ridiculous talk of him being the 1st overall pick.
-
I really like Jenkins. Barely moves his hands which result in a high contact rate and generates all that power. It is hard to say this about a high school player but his floor and ceiling seem both very high to me. Truth is I would have been very happy with Langford as well. I didn't think there was a chance that Skene, Langford or Crews would be there at 5. I do think there is a bit of a gap between Jenkins and Clark.
-
Yeah, in particular since a few seem likely to be up in 2024, like Crews and Skene, etc.
-
I'm curious how much the top of the class will auction for. Strong class
-
Yeah definitely seemed like the right pick there. I was amazed Boston got Teel at 14, I thought for sure he would be a top 10 pick.
-
Yep! I was worried Twins would get too clever and eschew whichever consensus top 5 guy fell to them, so was happy that they didn’t do that and instead selected Jenkins as best player available.
-
Yep! Happy with the Red Sox first-round pick.
-
Anyone else follow the MLB draft yesterday?
-
The Orioles and the Guardians should be talking about bats for pitchers. Besides being really bad for awhile, and drafting well, the Orioles are doing really well in developing their young talent. They potentially could field 9 players that were top 40 prospects.
