Rodon is tricky. One elite season, one very good season, and an otherwise mediocre career riddled with injuries including TJS. I’d not offer him a long term deal for big $, but I’d offer a high AAV, short term deal, and I would hope a rival made a huge, dumb offer.
-
What kind of contract would you guys give Rodon?

I would be shocked if the Dodgers tender Bellinger. I would be awfully surprised if the Dodgers do not sign T Turner especially if they don't sign Judge. The Giants are still kicking themselves for not signing Harper, I could see them being very aggressive this offseason and give them a fair chance at signing Judge.

It should be an interesting off season. Aaron Judge will be very wealthy. I’ll guess he winds up with the Dodgers or Giants. Dodgers have a LOT of salary coming off the books: Price, J. Turner, T. Turner, Muncy, Heaney, Kimbrel, Gallo, Treinen, Anderson, Kershaw, and others. And Bellinger could be non-tendered. That is over $100M of cap space they can use. They probably need a SS too, but even with $30M to a SS and $30M to a pitcher they could sign Judge.
-
I hope you are right. I really don't want to have to watch an Astros v. Yankees ALCS.

I like the Guardians to win today and think this series goes 5 games.

By “fWAR” standards, Aaron Judge’s 2022 season would only be Babe Ruth’s 7th best season. 😂
-
haha wow, that's crazy. So 1921 Ruth was worth 12 pts/g on just his hitting. I would imagine 1920 Ruth might have had better rates but less overall points due to playing in 10 less games.

2001 Barry Bonds 1738 pts
1921 Babe Ruth 1818 pts

That would be really cool if you did that with guys like peak Ruth, Bonds, Williams, etc. I'd be very interested to see those numbers. I would not be surprised if they put together over 2,000 points in a season just based on hitting alone, some of their stat lines are bonkers.

I agree with you that Ohtani is a fascinating player in baseball and Ottoneu and you were 100% right about him this year. I’m pretty sure nobody has ever got to 2,000 point either. I’ll take a look and see what Ruth, Bonds and Williams got in terms of our point system later for fun.

Yeah we do. He's still a fascinating Ottoneu player though. Don't care enough to go digging but pretty sure that's the first 2,000 point season by any player in this format and think it's reasonable to appreciate how uniformly and consistently good he was at both hitting and pitching this year. I'm not claiming he's anything like Ruth + Koufax. No one is like Ruth.

Don't we hear enough idolization of Ohtani from the idiotic baseball media? Ohtani is a very good starting pitcher and a very good hitter. That's it. Ohtani is not Babe Ruth + Sandy Koufax.

Looking at some final stats I'm kind of fascinated how Ohtani was worth exactly 6.23 Pts/IP and exactly 6.23 Pts/G and over 2,000 points overall. Pretty sure he's not human and is a baseball cyborg sent from the future to show how awful the Angels are that they can have both him and Trout and not even make it to the playoffs year after year! I share some of your concerns that he may not be able to keep this up year after year but as a baseball fan I sure hope he can.

This felt like a heavyweight title fight where I scored points in the early rounds but got wore down and started fading in the latter rounds and was ultimately saved by the bell. Rats had a phenomenal season and had me beat in the rates, also while fielding a roster with a much lower budget and still playing lights out. Winnetka also has to be one of the best "third place" teams in Ottoneu and could have won plenty of leagues with over 18,300 points. Was a fun ride playing with you all

Terrible timing for a let-down day for Rats. But it’s not over, and Buxton is out of pitching and several positions. It’s as close as these races get. Nice finish.
-
Yes sir, it very likely will come down to the final day. Rats are trending in such a good direction right now and with more games and innings remaining I am pretty nervous I won't be able to hold them off. Seems like he's pushing a lot of the right buttons and getting clutch performances every night down the stretch. It's been an awesome race and am glad to have been a part of it however it turns out!

This really will come right down to the wire. Region Rats has 17 more IP still to pitch and a few extra games at most positions, so it seems almost exactly tied right now. Interesting race. Eternal glory awaits one of you! The other, sadly, is just another loser like the rest of us.

It’s going down to the wire. Am going to regret not monitoring my team closely a couple of months ago if I don’t pull it off. Been a fun season. I’ll be back next year too!

Any of you see Judge's 61st? I thought it was really cool how they Maris' son and Judge's mom in the stands together when he hit it. Mama's smile when she knew it was gone off the bat was priceless.

I had never heard of Timmy Trumpet until yesterday. To listen to my Met fan friends, Timmy Trumpet is a mega star. When I first heard the name I thought it was a joke.
-
That would be demoralizing if you’re the Dodgers. To actually take deGoat deep to tie the game late only to have it robbed. Not surprised they didn’t come back from that, especially with Diaz shutting the door.

The sun is setting on trade season. I have too many prospects to carry into next year, but they are too good to cut. If you are looking for future value, which almost everybody (aside from Buxton, Winnetka and Region) presumably is, why not make some late-season moves. There isn’t much else to do for us also-rans.

Wheeler “forearm tightness”. Um, let me guess -the inevitable slow roll out of the minimization, followed by the announcement TJS will be needed. Pitcher injuries really are the great mystery of baseball. If an organization can excel at either predicting or avoiding TJS, they will be so far ahead of everyone else it won’t be fair.

But I am with you Winnetka, it is curious and it's not like he suddenly got jacked like Bonds, McGwire, etc. Hopefully he has good evidence to have it overturned but sounds like he already dropped his appeal. At least it only carries into 2023 for 30ish games. Maybe he should get shoulder surgery while he's out.

Bottom line though, if they claim they unknowingly took it, I don't understand how a multimillion dollar professional athlete whose livelihood depends on their body could not know exactly what they are putting in their body and where it came from. Don't MLB players have someone they can go through to make sure what they are taking doesn't contain a banned substance? The list seems to be right here: http://mlb.mlb.com/pa/pdf/prohibited-substances.pdf

Yeah that news was a real bummer. Hard to know what to believe. From what I "researched" it does seem like there could be some instances where that is part of the medication to treat ringworm but I also read where a sports Dr. said “steroids are an excepted part of treatment of ringworm but the steroids used there are anti-inflammatory in nature, not anabolic.” While it is not impossible, that the Clostebol was from a tainted medication, it is not a part of recognized ringworm treatmen

Such a boring time of year to be a fan of non-competitive teams (Pirates, Red Sox) and to have a cellar dwelling Ottoneu team. I’ll open for business if anyone wants to talk trades.
