League Message Board

If this feels preferable for everyone, we can easily switch. I guess I'd rather take votes from most/all members before deciding anything drastic though. Feel free to message me directly (little square box at top menu) if you'd like to weigh in without everyone seeing. Thanks all.

I'm not sure if you can allocate more than $1 to any given player on another team when doing so (can do up to $3 to any other team, but maybe has to be for 3 players; not sure). However, what this might mean - using Matsui's team as an example. I see David Fry on a nice cheap salary; I'd tag him for $1. If everyone else does the same, his salary next year becomes $14 (+2 inflation, +11 from other teams). I may also hit 2 other guys with +$1 on his team, and so could others.

So there is an option to switch from vote-off to "allocation" system during the offseason. See the rules page, and then the offseason subsection for how this works. In short, overall salaries on each team will increase between $11 and $33 depending on the selection process if everyone participates (and average $25 across all teams). This is after the $1 or $2 inflations that impact all keepers. We can certainly adjust, but want to be clear about how the changes actually impact things.

Something like that makes sense to me. If you're trying to emulate an MLB roster, then guys can go to arbitration to increase their salaries. I'd rather "vote" to increase a certain player's salary than vote them off someone's team.

What if we make it a rule that you can't vote a player off until their salary reaches a certain point?

Is there a compromise that would keep Redlegs in the league?

Ha! You're right, I totally misunderstood the rules. Whatever, I'm new here and happy to see how it goes.

All that said, this league structure may not be for everyone, and that's fine. There are plenty of other league structures out there that don't employ these rules. To each their own. Personally, I like the complexity and having to navigate the salary cap and keeper rules because it keeps things interesting even when my team is a hot fucking mess late in the season, like mine is now. I can prioritize the younger cheaper talent and look ahead to next year. Happy to trade away some vets!

I mean, the rules are pretty clearly posted and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Having said that, if you keep a 40 man roster of active MLBers, your salary will increase by $80. This is by design; the idea is that we don't want everyone keeping their entire roster intact. Like a true MLB roster, some tough decisions may have to be made to remain below salary cap, and to keep players circulating in the auction pool. If you're full of young cheap talent, max +$80 shouldn't be a huge problem.

$33 at most? What are you talking about. If you had a team full of major leaguers, you roster is going to go up a minimum of $80 alone. It's ok. This is the third year in the league. During the auction 2 years ago, two people quit within a week after having the best player voted and auctioned off their team. After last season, we lost 2 more due to this rule. We struggled to find enough people to keep the draft and league from being cancelled, but we still are keeping the same rule in effect.
