For draft date/time, I could do as early as 7:15pm ET on the 28th, but can't start earlier than that unfortunately. Voicing this bc I was one of two who said they couldn't do earlier than 8pm ET on the doodle poll. Looks like Josh was the other

Alright, finally, here's our form regarding MiLB roster changes.
https://forms.gle/B2ntrVHGWnca511cA
Everyone please fill that out ASAP. As soon as we have an answer, I'll update the charter as needed and we can begin the next round of MiLB cuts in preparation of the MiLB draft following our standard auction on the 28th.
-
Commish, thanks for your great organization.
You mentioned possibly starting the draft earlier on Sunday, March 28th.
I'd vote for that. 6 or 7 p.m. EST would be preferable to 8 p.m. for our squad.
Obviously willing to be flexible to make sure everyone can attend.
Thanks!

Draft date is set for Sunday, March 28th at 8:00 PM ET. All owners indicated they should be able to attend. As the date approaches and everyone is able to start any earlier, I would suggest we do so, but this year's draft will be nothing like the slog that we had last year. I'm thinking 3-4 hours tops. Still working on the poll for the MiLB rules changes - should have that up sometime this week. Cheers!
-
Just 5 more people need to fill out the doodle
-
That is the existential question posed by the aforementioned Doodle Poll. You can change your answer if your other drafts solidify before this one

Sorry to ask but I am coordinating drafts when is our draft day?

Still working on the poll for the MiLB, but here's a link to a doodle Poll to determine our draft date. Times listed are start times, please use your team name. Most of the dates are far out because I want a chance for everyone to get this on their calendars. Please try to be as flexible as possible guys, getting 12 people together at the same time is muy dificil.

Late to this, but just my $.02: Agree with Josh's Team in making it a 2 week grace period (rather than 48 hours) to decide whether to roster a prospect when they get called up
-
These are all good points and I am good either way. All I would ask if that we don't select a system that will disproportionately hurt the Cads when my stable of HPOAs come of age. My sources tell me that Bayron Lora's finger went all the way with a lady earlier this month. It's the first of many milestones.

Just to add 2 cents, I am not in favor of a rule change here. MiLB eligibility thresholds of 0 AB or 0 IP provide a crystal clear standard. Beyond this, we get into a gray area: 2 days, 2 weeks, rookie eligible... I got burned by the "cup of coffee" too. Tyler Stephenson, came up for one game, hit a home run, and then got sent back down. I took the $1 hit and then actually chose to drop him. Bummer. But I have 40 roster spots; I could have kept him. And I agree, it should stabilize thi

Yeah cannonball that’s exactly my point. Eventually the gains are going to even out the losses. When guys like Torkelson, Martin etc all come up through the MiLB system. I think all this was somewhat expected, and then the strange season exacerbated it. But obviously there are differing opinions so I think a vote would be helpful at least. Why doesn’t everyone message me some proposals and I’ll design something to suss out what the consensus is
-
Looks like we want to try and mimic MLB rules while maintaining realism/practicality. In MLB, everyone makes minimal salaries until arbitration, which doesn't happen for 3-4 years of MLB service. So the fact that PIT have hayes under team control for cheap for years to come is just good kudos for drafting right. Not suggesting 3-4 years of this for us- just until rookie status is gone but I think a reward for good (or lucky) drafting is a good element to have in this league.

I’m hesitant to take away salary inflation and arbitration from rookie eligible guys... especially since every elite prospect will eventually be cycling thru our MiLB rosters, rather than the auction draft. Like, under that proposal, guys like Arozarena/Sixto/KeBryan Hayes would still be rostered for a maximum of $1 right now, which could really set up some valuation problems down the road, right? None of those guys came out of our MiLB system, but guys like that eventually will.

So given this quandary and imperfect as this may be, I propose the following, taking all the thoughts relayed thus far: Any MiLB player that is added to an MLB's team's 40-man must be on a league owner's 40-man by the end of the season or they will lose that player. Any player that is still "rookie eligible" in MLB will not be subject to salary increase or arbitration. Once they lose rookie status, normal rules apply.

It's not easy to mimic real life rules. If all 30 MLB teams call up 4 players each during a season (adding 4 MiLB players into their 40-man or 10%), then that means in this league with 12 teams, each owner on average is calling up 10 players each into their 40-man (25% of total roster), or risk losing them. So for every roster spot an MLB team uses for a callup, we are basically using up 2,5X that in our rosters. It's mimicking the rules but not realistic at all. (continued)

That’s understandable. I think things will even out this season. It’s difficult to make changes considering how “unique” 2020 was. For the most part, players who will be promoted in real life will stay up at the risk of losing an option year.
I think the system we have now works fine if inflation is automatic. Personally, I don’t want to add any additional work for you Luke.
-
It’s an automated process that happens to every rostered player
-
Unfortunately, that piece of it I have no control over it. Any player that has any major league service time gets a $2 dollar bump if they’re rostered according to Ottoneu. That’s just part of it in order to keep enough roster turnover to make the off-season stocked with enough free agents
-
In real life, if you get promoted in, say, June, you earn prorated league minimum. In our league, the minimum salary is $1. I would suggest call-ups not be subjected to that inflation until the season AFTER their initial call up. No player makes $1.7 million (roughly 3x league minimum) their first full season. This gives players enough time to demonstrate real-life value; rewards the team for a wise prospect pick; mirrors real-life in a more realistic way. 2/2
-
i know 2020 was a mess as A-ball guys were getting promoted so hopefully it levels out. We had 6 guys get promoted. While we would have loved to keep them, the inflation piece was brutal. 3x the salary increase is heavy, regardless of player. I would suggest allowing players who are promoted from the MiLB roster not be subject to the +$2 inflation until certain thresholds are met. A 300% salary increase seems like a penalty. 1/2
-
I appreciate the concern for tracking purposes, though it’s somewhat difficult any way you slice it. Send me your best proposals for how to restructure this and I’ll add them to a poll to see what everyone thinks.
-
For instance, I could see that kind of a buffer period, but I feel like players would need to be added to the 40 man at year’s end at least, in order to make them eligible for arbitration and salary increase. Otherwise you could have a guy that’s been up and down for two seasons but still has rookie eligibility and is still eligible. Also remember that MLB rules have changed as to only allow 28 players on September rosters now, not 40 so there may be less cups of coffee than before
-
Also, this is the first year of the system, where so many prospects were drafted straight out of the auction pool. As we progress, there will be fewer and fewer prospects rostered on the 40-man, therefore the 40th man on everyone’s roster will be less talented, and the cut decisions might not be as hard.
I played in a league once where players didn’t need to be called up until their rookie eligibility was exhausted and that worked well, but there were no salaries so that would need
-
We can address that for sure. It’s set up the way it is now for two reasons.
1) It reflects the MLB 40-man - plenty of prospects but in order to play in the majors they need to be on the 40-man.
2) As players are called up, their salary inflation begins immediately, much like service time for MLB clubs.
I think the context of the year has screwed with the system (so many prospects were called up for cups of joe) and it might stabilize going further.

That's even better

Or maybe a simpler way (so that our dear commish doesn’t have to constantly keep track of the two week period for every call up) is to lose the 48 hour period to move the player into the 40-man. That way, if you know he’s a temporary filler, you don’t call him up and still keep him on your MiLB roster. But once you do make the call, the existing rules apply.

(continued...) As far as salary cap implications- you'd need the $1 cap space to call someone up but if you are optioning him back, there should be no penalty. Again, not sure if this is possible within confines of otto..

There is a rule change that I would not mind seeing. When an MiLB player is called up to fill in for an injury or for a "cup of coffee" then it kinda sucks to have to call him up or lose him after 48 hours, knowing he will be optioned back to the minors after a short stint. Would be nice to to option an MiLB player back to the MiLB roster within a certain time period of getting called up (2 weeks?). Not sure if this can be automated so maybe not practical, but that's the idea. Thou

Please review the rules in the League Charter (available in the notes sections) and reach out if there’s anything that needs addressing and we can bring it to a league vote. Otherwise, enjoy a few weeks off and study up. I’m not coming in 9th this year.
-
Awesome guys, thanks so much! I’m gonna give Siena a few more days to get his picks in, otherwise he’ll just have to try again in a month or so.
So the only things left to do are winter meetings (addressing any rules changes) and setting up an auction date. I like to have my auctions as close to the season as possible, but I’m flexible. I’ll put up a doodle poll in a week or so to let people’s calendars shake out before we set a hard and fast date.
-
Very well done, Luke. The organization on the draft order was very helpful considering the various roster sizes. Looking forward to the 40-man and also the next drafts.
