The winner of a daily season doesn't HAVE to make a lot of moves to win a season, but the advantage of a daily season, especially a shortened one with a new injury designation, is that *if you have to make moves* it's easier to do so now. And not all those moves will require you to drop players you currently roster as long as you have cap space. Really the experience shouldn't be much different than weekly with the exception of getting to play with your lineups more frequently.

And maybe I'm totally missing this and just need to see it and experience it in action...am I the lone skeptic? Wasn't there someone else who said they had some issues? Just curious. I'm not necessarily out, just trying to wrap my head around it and analyze how it will actually play out. I keep going back to just how comfortable I felt my team was/is after drafting. Yeah, I'll make some moves here and there, but I'm guessing the winner of a daily season is going to make a SHIT TON of moves

You shouldn't have to dismantle your roster because once a player hits the DL with a COVID designation it will act the same as the 60 Day DL - that players salary still counts against your cap but you can add another player into that roster spot.

So the reasoning behind moving to daily is because with so many players potentially hitting the IL for COVID tests, it will really skew the results on a weekly basis. However, in a daily league, if you lose a player on Monday to COVID 10 Day DL, then you can replace that person with a 24 auction and continue to accrue points once that player hits your roster, as opposed to waiting until the next upcoming weekly cycle to replace the player.

I guess it would make sense if we are going to be a daily league forever. Then, I can see and understand not necessarily wanting to hold on to someone as long as normal because if it's daily starts then more owners will be inclined to drop more rostered players in order to get the next day's starter in a game. So, if that is the strategy moving forward, ok I suppose I can climb aboard knowing that now. But, if we are going to go to daily just for this season, then return to weekly... idk?
Nappy Dugout on
July 19, 2020 10:24 PM

And then what happens next season? We go back to weekly? Or is this going to be daily indefinitely?
Nappy Dugout on

So if the logistics are exactly the same, then why again the need to change? I love true daily if we can get someone on the waiver wire tonight for a start tomorrow. And if we start out and draft knowing there will be high daily turnover. My concern is that one would need to essentially dismantle their team in order to have any realistic chance of winning this season. And that would be in direct contradiction to the strategy and method in which that owner drafted back in March.

And you second scenario of weighing of dynasty value v. current value is something we all have to deal with in daily or weekly. Do I sacrifice long term potential gains for short term ones? The short term hurdles are handled on a slightly different time line, but the issues for each scenario are essentially the same.
-
Hey Nappy. Not sure your confusion. Your first scenario is the same with daily or weekly. If you want a guy who's going to start 3 days from now, you'd better start his auction today. If he's starting tomorrow, then you're SOL. Same if you wanted to buy a guy who had 2 starts in one week. You'd have to start his auction 2-3 days before that week started or you'd miss out on his starts.
-
And then if I have to drop a player whom I presumably drafted strategically for long-term dynasty purposes in order to free a spot for my newly-acquired "rental" pitcher who starts tomorrow and whose points I just wish to have for tomorrow's game, does that not defeat the purpose of having drafted the original pitcher/player in the first place?

No major issue necessarily, but I'm still a bit confused. And perhaps this was explained before but I seem to have missed it; if it was please forgive me. But, how will this work logistically speaking? If I want to start a pitcher(s) or a field player for tomorrow's games who is not currently on my team tonight, but the auction bidding process is still several days, how will that be completed in order to plug that pitcher/player into starting roster in order to receive credit for his points?

Sorry for the delay here - given the poll results I think it's easier to switch to daily for this shortened season and then in the off-season re-visit whether or not we want to keep the league as a daily league. I definitely was looking forward to a weekly format, but it really just doesn't make sense with a shortened season.

There's been no announcement on the lineup vote, daily v. weekly. Are we to assume that means nothing is changing?
-
That's a good point, Kenny. For those who don't know this "switch" is an option: "Bench position players that are not in their MLB starting lineup. Based on our projections 5 minutes before scheduled game time" This ensures you won't have players in your lineup that aren't starting. I'm not positive if it then inserts other players into your lineup that are starting, but this is a helpful tool in running a team if you don't have the time.
-
I posted a poll. Let's vote at least and wee where we are. With the new "auto eject" feature, it will make daily easier for daily so you don't lose starts (if the player is not in his team's starting lineup, he will be benched here).

It's my first year in the league and the folks who created the league made it set it an forget for a reason, so I think they should have more say. If the veteran members don't want to have a fully engaged league for whatever reason, even with only an 8 week season, then I'll stand by that. But if there is a vote, my vote is for daily.
-
If there are strong feelings against daily lineup changes, I'm fine either way. My intention was to bring this up as a change for this year only, as we have an unexpectedly shortened season, so I thought maybe everyone would want to be more engaged with their teams given how quick this season will go. I do agree that we have already drafted and agreed to this year's set of rules, therefore, I think this would need to be a unanimous decision in order to change a rule.
-
I understand that we voted for weekly lineups already, but life and MLB had changed significantly since then. If we had known then what we know now I imagine that we may have voted differently. I think it's crazy to not entertain and discuss the daily option at the very least. MLB and Ottoneu have both adjusted accordingly to the current environment so I think we should discuss it as well. In the end I'll go with whatever we decide, but I think everyone should keep an open mind.

It's all good, doesn't hurt to ask. I haven't played in a set-it-and-forget-it league in a while. Could be interesting.

We have to stay at weekly now guys unless the commish overrules me. It was agreed to weekly when everyone paid.

As already mentioned, there were a few people who are only in this league because it is weekly lineups. Changing it after the topic has already been discussed and voted on, and we have already drafted, is ridiculous. Feel free to change it next year so those of us who want a weekly lineup league can look elsewhere.

What? I always assumed it was already daily lineup changes. Is that not correct? If not, I'm definitely in support of daily lineup changes. This makes all leagues I've been involved with more competitive and exciting.
-
Hey all. Excited for the chance to see a 60 game season! Given that this season is a sprint now instead of a marathon, and a high level of player uncertainty, what does everyone think about making the switch to daily lineup changes rather than weekly? Guessing most of us are at home more with clearer calendars and can therefore keep up with the game daily.
-
In case people missed or couldn't find it, here are the caps for the league: Given the 60-game season, the following caps will be implemented:
Games played: 60
OF Games played: 300
IP: 560 IP
Min IP: 390 IP
