Its more of a placeholder, and now I think a few of us have a draft on the 31st already in another league.
Would Friday, 4/1 evening work for everyone? Lets say 7pm? That way we could get it done before you go out / go to bed.
-
Looks like the draft is set for the 31st right now - is that what we are aiming for?
-
Great job making cuts on time everyone, and welcome to our new managers! Next up is draft time discussion. We can wait to see when season will actually start, first.

Looks like Moons, To Be, and In Didi didn't renew - any way to reach out to them or post about the openings?
-
Reminder that keeper deadline is in one week. Make those cuts!

Welcome to the league!
-
Hey All- thanks for letting me join- new owner of Danger Zone here. Excited to be here!
-
Two week warning on cuts! Also make sure to renew your team (deadline 1/31).
Also, I'd like to welcome our newest manager Hinterlands. Replacing Dan (danger zone).

Looks like the keeper deadline is delayed 2 weeks due to the lockout, more time to procrastinate
-
Sorry to see Dan (Danger Zone) go, but luckily he gave us a ton of warning in addition to having a pretty good team. I am confident we'll find a replacement. Don't forget to make your cuts before Jan 31!

Happy New Year everyone. Sadly, I will not be returning to the league this year. Just trying to cut back a bit on fantasy baseball and have other leagues I would rather focus on. I think Danger Zone has a solid foundation, so hopefully it won't be too hard to find a replacement. Nice meeting you guys and good luck with the league.
-
Happy new year everyone! The keeper deadline is 1/31/2022.

I forgot to send reminders on arbitration - sorry everyone. But the league continues! We have a little while until final roster cuts, I'll make sure to keep everyone reminded.

Are we doing another year? I see less than half of the teams allocated arbitration so I didn't want to renew if people are resigning from the league. Thanks!

Same lol - why settle for less
-
If anyone else wants to trade one of the best players in the league and cover his salary, hit us up. We are open for business
-
I've decided to make some more trades to keep the message board lively - you are all welcome
-
The majority of owners seem to be OK with it so then I won’t have a problem. As long as people know it’s going on and are cool with it happening that is all I care about. Thanks everyone for their input.
-
I'm late to the party, but as someone giving up the loan, I viewed this as an attempt to make up for past sins of running my team into the ground year after year. Holding stars for no return only to cut them for salary reasons at the end of the year wasn't an option. I hear folks that BBHMM can rebuild fairly quickly, but there was nothing illegal about it, and he's got some work ahead to make it happen. In any event, this has made the league more interesting. Look at all these posts!

My 2 cents: I have no issue with what BBHMM is doing. It's similar to real life. Teams that are "going for it" trade prospects for high-priced one-year rentals. They mortgage their future to win now. The difference is there's only 12 teams in this league, so it's easy to do this and still compete next year, and there's no luxury tax, so there's no real penalty for going way over the cap. I was trying to make similar trades but I was too stingy lol. IMO, everyone should be making these
-
Yes, three of the players they got totaled $204 so it wouldn't be difficult to do and keep most of the players that helped them to the second highest scoring total in the league pre-trades.
-
so to clarify - with the cap at 400 - will he have to cut $200 worth of players next season to get under?
-
To clarify, I do not want to throw any team under the bus and do not blame any team for what they have done to make their team better whether short or long term. I just think the league should not just sit by and allow everything to go through that two teams come up with when payrolls are going to be that far off other teams. I dont buy that BBHMM is screwing themselves because they can cut a couple players they got and some dead weight and still have a very good team next year.
-
The second thing: There is real life precedent -- BBHMM essentially screwing himself next year (And possibly the following years) by going all in, is sort of what NFL teams do when they trade high picks for high priced super stars and then have to cut a bunch of players the following seasons or not resign guys.
Finally - Yelich is starting to hit and is available for young, cheap talent! Don't wait until its too late and hes a superstar again! He could win you the championship th
-
Two things I want to note - 1) as a rebuilding team, its really difficult to pull of a trade for cheap, young stars like bichette/peralta, who are outperforming your high priced guys, and cost WAY less ($3/$11 vs $50-$70 plus) without giving up quantity, and doing the loans, because otherwise if you are the team holding the cheap/high performing players, why do the trades? Its impossible to make those trades work without throwing in half your roster and crippling yourself.
-
I promise I am going to stop whining about this because who really cares? But for the record I think it is a bad precedent for the league to allow one team that much more money but kudos to BBHMM for pulling it off.
-
I agree with Dirty -gathering a ton of loans is not against the rules, but neither is us vetoing. No reason to hold back our vetos for only illegal actions, getting a majority to veto a trade is still a high threshold.
Just spitballing, but in the future, a max cap threshold of a nice even number like $600 (or $800) seems OK. Would still allow a lot of cap/loan trades without making any teams silly large.
-
Let me clarify. I don’t think the loan amounts are unfair. I think they’re super high but it just means Bichette is going to have to start over in the offseason.
-
Saying the trades don’t seem unfair besides the loan amounts is like saying besides the bullet in the head how did you like the play, Mr President? Obviously hyperbolic but my point is the loan amount giving one team $200 more to spend than the others is the problem and a bad precedent to set, IMO. If everyone else is fine with it, OK. I just dont think everyone knows they have a say in allowing this or knows, its even happening.
-
I am definitely not suggesting punishing them. Like I said, it's brilliant on their part. I think as a league, the whole reason we have the option to veto is to prevent stuff like this from making things unfairly imbalanced. If it was against the rules the system wouldn't even allow it to happen so that shouldn't be the threshold for a veto. If everyone is ok with it happening then that is fine. I dont know if people see it or know they can veto it. This is why MLB has to approve all trades too.
-
The trades don’t seem unfair besides the loan amounts so I’m good with them (wish I hadn’t given up so much for Scherzer though). But I do think that the 4 matchups per week might be having the effect of teams throwing in the towel and selling really early in the season. Maybe we go to 2 matchups per week next year.
-
So, I agree that these trades have some eye-catching loans attached. But, the reason I didn’t consider a veto is that it’s not against the rules. It’s how the system is designed to work - non competitive teams can offer loans to move their win-now pieces in order to build for the future.
I totally agree that this is starting to seem like a possibly problematic loophole, but no way would I want to punish BBHMM for taking advantage. Also, where would we even draw the line? How much is too
-
Is any one else paying attention to these trades BBHMM is making? These guys will have a payroll more than 50% greater than everyone else. I dont see why people are not vetoing these? I dont blame BBHMM at all for trying (and getting away with it) but trying to compete with a ~$400 payroll while theirs is soon to be ~$600 gives them a major advantage over the rest of the league. They'll take on ~$250 worth of salary and will still have $5 free. Brilliant on their part but awful for the league.
-
I definitely prefer single h2h like we had the last full season, but fine if we leave it like it is now
-
I'm good with it, although as someone who is constantly at the bottom of the league, maybe I shouldn't be!

Works for me.

Agree with Nine Separate Misfortunes. It keeps the excitement of H2H, but increases the likelihood of the best teams (top 6 in season points) making the playoffs, which should be the goal, IMO.

I think 4 matches per week works great - even in a full season its nice to even out some of the scheduling/h2h randomness.
-
We are still set at 4 matches per team / week. It is a remnant of last year's short schedule, but I am happy to leave it unless there are objections

guys i'm locked out of the draft. Can you pause it?
-
Final reminder. See you guys in 2.5 hours!
-
Reminder that draft is currently set for THIS Sunday at 8pm ET
-
Seems like 3/7 @ 8pm ET is the current favorite. If that doesn’t work for you let us know!
-
I am good with all dates, 3/7 8pm est would be my top pick.
-
all dates being discussed are fine by me - cant do weekend of 22
-
I can do 3/7 at 8pm
-
Reminder that at least 1 team is in Pacific time, so morning/early afternoon Eastern are tough.
-
Sorry, but 3/14 won't work for us. Neither will the following weekend, unfortunately. What about 3/7 in the evening?
-
3/14 works for me. Any chance we can make it an evening draft, say 730-8pm eastern start?
-
Works for me.
