I personally like the blind auction thing. Just bid what you think the player is worth, and you’ll only pay $1 more than the next highest bid. Bidding wars that artificially increase the price of every FA are waaayyy worse to me.
-
Correct, with the caveat of a tie possibility. So say only two people bid in the auction, and they both bid $4. The team lower in the standings will win the auction and get the player for $4.
-
This is corrected by being able to set your high bid but only pay the max possible to win, right? For instance, I can set my bid as $8 but if the next highest bid is $4 I would win for $5. It took me most of the season to realize this was how it functioned but it certainly made things more logical for me. In theory you can't be outbid up to whatever amount you view the player to be worth, so you only lose if someone else has a higher valuation.
-
Yeah, I can see that. To me, the system now is like "true" free agency. Let's say the Mets are interested in Puig. Without collusion or knowledge, they won't know what other offers he has. So, they make him an offer they feel is good. The Marlins come in one day later and make a higher offer. Puig accepts that offer, and the Mets never knew. Or, the other scenario, Mets want Puig and make an offer he can't refuse, but end up vastly overpaying.
-
It is up until the results. But the email comes in as the auction finishes and you can see who won the auction. In the early days, you used to actually be able to see who started the auction, but they took that away because if you were lower in the standings then the person that started it, you could just bid the same amount and still win.
-
Isn't that because this is supposed to be a silent auction format? I thought that was a feature, not a bug.
-
Yeah I think the only one they send out is that an auction ended, but nothing specifically about being outbid.
-
I think I've complained about this before, but there are two things that drive me absolutely nuts about this format, and one of them is that there's an email notification for everything EXCEPT someone outbid you on a free agent. I don't know if I'm just doing something wrong, but it drives me nuts.
-
For those who use Gmail, highly recommend moving ottoneu emails to the social or promotional tabs so that you don't get notifications every time something goes down on ottoneu. ESPECIALLY over these next couple days.
-
Usually forget to check my personal email until after lunch, and there are 18-20 in the inbox. Checked just now, 84. Thank you Ivan for a temporary panic attack.

Well damn, there went my “get a couple decent free agents before Ivan remembers Ottoneu exists” window.
-
Y'all know the Community meme with Donald Glover and the pizzas and the room on fire? I mean I'll be honest, I straight-up suck at this format (in part due to not a super-high degree of investment, in part because I really just suck at it), but I'm the panel of the "this is fine" dog where he's already melted into the floor.
-
Man, really wish I would have hung around those extra few minutes last night...
-
Draft in less than 30 minutes! See y'all there!
-
Lol...my turn today on the IL train JD Power. At least it happened for us before the draft?
-
When you spend the time to put a solid draft plan in place only to lose one of your top OF and top RP two days before the draft...time to reboot the priority needs list
-
I'm good with the draft time.
-
I exist. It just didn't email me about renewing and then I guess since I didn't renew it never sent me any other emails. Happy to pay another $20 and hoover up players without really paying attention and finishing last again. (hey Ottoneu let us modify reliever value)
-
The date set works for me! The path to 4th begins again!
-
That's just about perfect for me.

I have TENTATIVELY set the draft date for 3/28 at 8 PM eastern. This is so that anyone who may not have seen the short convo yesterday can see it and speak up if we need to move anything around. This at least gets something on the board to shoot for, but it is by no means final (yet).
And I'll shoot Ivan an email and see if he still wants in.
-
3/28 around 8pm works for me, I can also do the weekend before if needed.
-
3/28 around 8 would work for me.
-
The weekend before the games start looks like it's 3/26-28. (and of course I'm going to be out of town...) I could probably do Sunday PM. Would 3/28 around 8PM eastern work? Could also do it the weekend before.
-
Two things:
1. Can we pick the draft conversation back up? It'd be nice to get it scheduled now that we're within a few weeks.
2. Does anybody have contact with Ivan beyond the TC boards? Considering he posted on Jan 30 and handled his cuts I'm guessing his expiration was an oversight.
-
He can still come back to the same team as long as the fee is paid, right?
-
Got an email that Ivan had expired. RIP Ivan :(

In a perfect world, we could do it the night before Opening Day. Would (at least for me personally) theoretically help me move past the fact that I'm starting to hate baseball because of Rob Manfred and get excited about it again. Obviously no problem just playing it by ear while Rob and the league do the same.

My schedule is wide open as I'm hunkered down due to personal high risk of COVID. I agree with Barves Way. I prefer to have the draft as close to the start of the regular season as possible.
-
Yeah, that sounds about right I think. I'd like to wait until we get some clarity on how the schedule shakes out before we try to nail anything down. I generally try to keep the draft sometime around mid/late March, with a week or two left of ST so we know who looks good for playing time/injuries/trades/etc.
-
How would you guys like to arrange the draft? Did we have some sort of spreadsheet or other tool before? It will be easy to work with my schedule. I'll be free most evenings and weekends with notice. I do recall that we're in all time zones, though, so I think we figured out last time that weekend afternoons were needed to work out that conflict.

I hit him up and he acknowledged and said he'd get to it today. Apparently busiest work month of his life.

I dont think that I've seen an email, just making sure everyone was aware that keeper deadline is tomorrow night. Moreso for the new guy. I certainly understand the priorities.
-
I exist, this is just like 8000th on the priority list. I assume I get emails when there are deadlines but if there's something I need to actively do let me know.
-
Bartolo, heard anything out of the new addition to the league? Anybody heard from Carlos Perez? Neither have been in since the middle of November.
-
*Mike Trout has been cut alert*
-
I'm here, just haven't been around lately. Looking forward to baseball again
-
I’m here, will renew and spam trade offers this weekend.
-
Also here. Will be renewing in the next few days
-
I'm also still here. Just continuing to pay the same amount of attention to my team as I have the last 2 years.
-
I'm still here. Playing the long game this year vs. cutting everyone early like I did last year. My trade block is updated. I already renewed my team, so I'm in next year regardless.
-
Also here. Kind of zoned out from the world for a little while after being covid nuked by my girlfriend's mom over Christmas (everyone is fine). Been planning to renew and ramp things back up this week.
-
Here, waffling back and forth over who gets cut next week. I think I'm going to ask ownership to increase spending, that works, right?
-
Here, fighting baseball disenchantment as the tea leaves read clearer and clearer that the absolute best case for the Braves' Ozuna replacement is, like, a Pederson/Duvall platoon.

5 teams haven't seen any activity this month. I want to make sure we're all here since most of us are about to renew our payments.

Congrats on the baby! As far as your team goes, nothing happens to you. It's just you lose out on the "advantage" of making certain players more burdensome for other teams. So basically, your players were subject to arb increases even though you didn't personally assign those arb dollars elsewhere.
-
So in the craziness of having a newborn I apparently missed the arbitration dollar allotment period entirely. What does that mean for my team moving forward?
-
Today is the last day of arbitration. Three teams still haven't assigned their dollars.

Welcome! Let me know if you have any ottoneu questions, and I can help you out. It's a bit different than just about everything if you've never done it before. But it's great fun.
-
Welcome new Spicy Meatball! Fun league and good crew here. Good to have you!
