Just glad I remembered to set my lineup! I missed out on a Gausman 70 pointer earlier in the season
-
Ronald got 172 points from his pitching alone yesterday! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much just from pitchers.
-
I might need to start a fantasy advice blog after this…
1. Picked up Edward Olivares after seeing a fantasy article about him being a sleeper rookie.
2. Impulse-cut Olivares after he was immediately sent back to AAA.
3. Saw he was recalled from AAA 2 days later but had been claimed by Probably Going to Finish Last.
4. Impulse traded him Ryan Tepera straight up to get Olivares back
5. The VERY next day, Olivares is sent back to AAA and Tepera got him 20 points in a s

13 players and a quarter of my salary on the DL. At least I don't have to worry much about which players to start...
-
Grabbed Schoop for $1 and he got me 43 points on the first night. That’s the kind of instant return on investment that I always imagine but never actually get.
-
It's official. Tarik Skubal about to be the next DeGrom. Another in the long list of prospects that Jobu gave up on too early...
-
I've had enough of Strasburg. Was hoping to get a healthy season from him but it's not happening.
-
I'm suddenly losing every auction I start. Guys, please stop spending money on people I want.
-
11 of my 40 out. No extra roster spots because of what IL they were placed on. This season is pretty ridiculous.
-
I still have nightmares from when I traded both Riley and Anderson for Meadows. Riley was struggling, and I was sure that Anderson was going to follow the long line of Braves pitching prospects that flamed out. Thankfully I'm finally getting something out of Meadows...
-
I regret trading Austin Riley more by the day. What a run he is on.
-
I do have to admit. I'm a big fan of claiming a reliever and then him getting traded to the Rays immediately after.
-
Ha, I mean I'm gonna probably be WAY below the threshold. Ideally you finish right AT the threshold at the end of the year. But I've lost so many games at this point that it's going to be hard to make up I think.
-
Wait a moment. You're not supposed to be below the GP threshold? Weird. Been playing this wrong the whole time.
-
Thank goodness for solid pitching! I'm just worried I'm gonna be way under the GP threshold at a lot of positions at the end of the season and leaving a bunch of points out there. But seeing as a lot of my position players suck, it might be better to actually not play them and rack up negative points.
-
I feel your pain. I had 7 injuries to my position players a few days ago, and it's now 6. You have 8, so that sucks a lot. We're both still competing though, at least to place, and that's pretty amazing.
-
I have so many position players injured that I now have just enough players to fill out a lineup with no one on the bench. And since like 4 of them are platoon players, gonna be tough.
-
Welp there goes my OF production for the next 2 months
-
That makes it better, I think I went to $5 so he was yours anyway.
-
If you mean Josh Rojas, I had him to start the year and dropped him after an awful first two weeks. Then he immediately caught fire and I kept hoping he would last the 30 days to bid on him again. I actually bid $8 max just to ensure I got him back and corrected my mistake, lol.
-
Pretty sure I got distracted by one of the kids when I went to bid on Rojas, that's going to be good value I think.
-
Let the record show that I tried to rage-drop Will Smith.

I had a few strong offers for Lourdes Gurriel during pre-season trade week, but couldn't bring myself to let him go. Now I've cut him for nothing. C'est la vie.
-
Still a lot of season left. There are some nice leads built up, but nothing that can't be overcome.
-
How about that, my team's been on quite a run for a week or so. I was counting myself out with that insane streak of injuries for a month. But with Yelich, who knows?
-
I'm auctioning Panda, he deserves it
-
yeah my bid didn't cut it, my MASH unit pitching staff went from 6 to 4 on the IL today so things are looking up. think I speak for all of us when I say I hope Max Fried gets me some points this evening.

I'm not even the biggest Lamet fan but the value was off the charts. My mouth actually came open when I logged on for the first time in a week and he was up for auction.
-
Still early yet. He only pitched two innings, his velocity was all over the place, and he didn't have any SOs. I wanted to put a claim on him, but didn't. I'm trying to justify my decision too. LOL
-
I cut Dinelson Lamet fully certain he was about to go down for Tommy-John Surgery. Now he's on another team for $11 and pitching without discomfort. #Nailedit
-
I would just like to revel in the fact that, in my third season in this league, I am in the first place for the first time ever. Dreams do come true.
-
Technically it was, you're just 50 points ahead of me so I got him for $5 instead. :)
-
I thought for sure $5 would be enough for Wendle, my search for 2B continues...
-
Man, I knew I should have bid more for Mullins. I was afraid to overbid in case he turns out to be a fluke, but now I can only assume he will end up being the real deal and I will kick myself all season for not getting him when he was up for a cheap auction (as I already am with Badoo).
-
Ynoa just went for $6 in my other ottoneu league that is NOT full of Braves fans. I guess people are just desperate for SP these days.
-
Ynoa for $7! I bid $3 and thought I might easily snag him, lol.
-
Strasburg racks up fantasy points for me and the Braves still win. I like it.
-
They could do xwOBA-type scoring, that would be interesting. They might want to wait for Tango's x/Statcast WAR though, just so they can get the weights down.
-
I'm just happy for you guys that your entire teams are doing well enough that you can complain about individual starts. My team forgot how to play baseball so far.
-
A 105 EV line drive hit is more on the pitcher than the defense for me. Both hits against Smith last night were entirely on the pitcher, with .810+ xBA there isn't much the defense can do. Last night Bundy went 6IP, 10K, 2ER, great start by any measurable except the fact the two runs were on solo HR so he scores 18 points. Not sure that a fix exists, just frustrating to see how useless good pitching outings can be when HRs are involved. 3 P/IP doesn't move the needle much.
-
It'd be less of a disconnect if somehow they were able to capture defense for scoring. As it is the "HR penalty" is really just because it's tagging the pitcher with the stuff (only) the pitcher is involved in. Richards got two outs and allowed two walks, the rest was on his defense. Kluber got five outs and allowed four baserunners "on him" plus a homer. If they took out IP = 5 points and added defense somehow it'd align better.
-
Latest example of my frustration with the HR penalty for pitchers: Corey Kluber goes 4IP 5K 3BB 1HBP 1ER (2R), scores 5PTS. Garrett Richards goes 2IP 2K 2BB 6ER, scores 8PTS. The difference? Kluber's ER scored on a HR. What manager or GM ever would consider Richards start to be more valuable than Kluber's? This is one of the few spots in this scoring system where the stats seem to have a divide with real life results.

*Moves David Price to RP slot* If anyone is catcher-needy, take a look at my roster and see how I can help you. Totally forgot C was 162 total, the two slots threw me off but I'm an idiot and just didn't think it through.

And one more pitching caveat: Your pitchers will only accrue points if they appear in the same roles they're in on your lineup page. So if a pitcher is starting, they MUST be in a SP slot. If they make a relief appearance, they MUST be in a RP slot. If there's an opener situation, they must be used in a SP slot.
-
Like technically I'm on pace for 4000 IP because I had 4 SP go yesterday. Knowing they won't pitch again for another 5-6 days, that will equalize in the meantime. As a general rule, starting 1 SP per day keeps you mostly on track for 1500 IP assuming some IP here and there from relievers. You don't HAVE to start 1 SP per day, that's just what I've found is kind of the formula. So if you have 5 SP pitch on the same day, you're basically good for 5 days without starting another one in that time.
-
They were there last year, probably just hard to reach because of all the covid stuff. But yes, 162 games per position (or 810 for OF, which is 162x5 OFs). For those of you new to the format, there are two catcher slots, but you still only get 162 catcher games played. Don't play 2 catchers everyday. And the IP limit is 1500. You'll get a "projected" IP total at the bottom of your lineup page (same for GP for position players), but I wouldn't worry about those much this early on.
-
Just got a fun reminder about IP/games played limits, because I'm not sure we had those last year (or if we did, I didn't hit them). Charles/Spicy Meatball, this is my warning to you-- you get 162 games for each position and some rough equivalent of that for pitchers.

I think the first year draft is probably the closest it ever gets to bidding your true value. But in every draft beyond that, it's constrained to who's available and who has what money left, so it gets kinda whacky after that. But I remember guys were going for WAYYYY too much money in the early going of the first draft, so I guess it all balances out eventually.
-
I'm fine with it being a Vickrey auction, I just think it's weird for a format where A) waiver claims don't work like that and B) the actual draft doesn't work like that. Like the format encourages you to bid your true value, which is great... except literally nothing else about Ottoneu encourages you to bid your true value for anything.
-
It also took me forever to understand the max bid aspect of the auctions, but I definitely used that to probably beat Ivan and others out on a few recent players. Smyly, for example, was someone I really wanted. I put my max bid at $10 even though I didn't actually want to pay that much for him. It worked out because I ended up getting him for $6 since the other highest bid was $5. With Ivan and all his money, he could bid like $10 on every free agent and basically win every auction.
