We've got 7 responses to the form, would love to get responses from everyone so that we can move on to scheduling the auction draft. (No, I can't see who responded, so apologies for nagging even those of you who already did it!) Awesome, thanks for setting the form up!

Hey y'all, here's the promised survey that includes a survey of our current rules as well as questions about scheduling the auction draft. Based on that feedback I'll put together a Doodle or Whenisgood and send it out soon. Try and respond to this survey by the end of the week. Thanks! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScMIty5dtQeE2QZX5jDQbjJ6DUmYiCGmkfg6GfVQKGihPZs2w/viewform?usp=sf_link

Everyone is legal, good work everyone. Two agenda items: League direction and scheduling the draft. I'll tackle both in a Google Form I'll send around later this week with questions about our rules and draft preferences. The draft preferences will be followed up with a WhenIsGood or Doodle to nail down an exact time. On rules -- the main question I know of would be on vote-off versus allocation as our offseason arbitration going forward. May also revisit playoff structure. Anything else?

There sure were a lot this year! Auction should be fun, plenty of teams with cap space $$$

Love these last minute cuts!

Two hours to cut!
-
Seriously agree on the full season. A little more than 24 hours to get your cuts in, everyone. And I'm still looking to trade for pitching... :D
-
Welcome Bushrod! Looking forward to actually having a full baseball season to enjoy!
-
First, welcome to our new manager for Solar Sox, now the Bushrod Bombers—one of the first guys I ever played fantasy baseball with. Second, get your cuts in by Sunday, y’all! Third, be sure to pay dues, also due on Sunday. After keeper deadline we can set an auction date.
-
As long as they'll be active, then I don't care
-
I have two managers interested in Solar Sox so far. If anyone has a preferred candidate they'd like to refer, reach out now. Otherwise, do people prefer someone who plays a *lot* of Ottoneu, or someone who is new to Ottoneu?
-
Hey folks, keepers are due soon! We are looking for a new manager for Solar Sox. I’ll advertise the team on the boards but let us know if you have anyone interested.
-
Happy New Year everyone! A month left until keepers are due (1/31). Trading also re-freezes until the draft at that date.
No one knows Solar Sox right? They haven’t logged on since September and haven’t responded to my email yet.
-
Side note: A few interesting players have been cut that might have garnered trade interest. As Niv noted on Slack today, there's not much reason to cut until the deadline, unless you're *absolutely* sure no one will be interested.
-
It's definitely right that vote-off injects this talent *directly.* But allocation can have the same effect indirectly, and has the additional features of a) hitting multiple players (e.g. you could have two players with, say, $5 surplus each who each receive $8 of allocation, and thereby become cuts) and b) hitting teams unevenly (e.g. my team in league 120 gave $25 in allocation but received $28--a balancing effect towards league parity, as that team won the championship).
-
One thing I like about vote-off is that it provides an injection of otherwise-unavailable talent into the auction draft -- makes the auction a bit more exciting, and introduces some unpredictability into roster building. As I understand it, allocation wouldn't provide that directly. That said, I don't feel particularly strongly either way. Would be interested to hear what others think.
-
What Bobblehead is referring to is listed in the rules as "allocation" fwiw; vote-off and allocation are both forms of arbitration. Allocation I believe guarantees inflation season to season in a way vote-off doesn't, since you can't have the situation I got two years ago -- $50+ Kershaw voted off and won back at auction for half what I had him for. It could go the other way too, of course. Any seconds on allocation? I'll collect any rule-change proposals into a form/survey at some poi
-
Yeah, I mean...everyone should participate in arbitration, whether it's through vote-off or allocations. Weeghman is right that allocation provides a range on increases ($25 per team, so up to $300 injected into league salaries in each offseason, or ~6.25% inflation), the ceiling of which would decrease without full participation; however, some leagues add a rule like, "teams that do not allocate will have their allocations made automatically following X rule."
-
The potential problem I see with that is that there would be a hard cap on salary increases and that cap would be lower if we didn't get full participation.
-
I propose moving from vote off to arb for next offseason.
-
Vote-off is complete! Teams can cut and trade until 1/31/21, at which point your roster *must* be legal. Three notes on vote-off: One, Solar Sox did not complete vote-off; hopefully they just tuned out after playoffs and will be back for cut deadline. Two, remember the voted-off player is now a "restricted free agent." The old owner receives a $5 discount if they win the player at auction. Finally, now is the time to bring up any proposed rule changes.
-
There is less than one week until vote-offs are due on Saturday, 11/14. Please complete these to remain a member of the league in good standing. Vote-offs are a core mechanic for maintaining parity in our league.
Starting Saturday, 11/14 to the keeper deadline of January, 1/31, you can fire up the hot stove: trades will once again be allowed. Note that you cannot trade salary during the offseason. I know Brexit and I made a very interesting trade last winter, I'll be looking to deal again!
-
Half of the league has now completed vote-offs. If you're in the half that hasn't, be sure to pencil in a reminder to do so before 11/14. If you have any questions about the process, let me know.
PS Good luck to any Dodgers or Rays fans in the house, I'm just rooting for as much baseball as possible!
-
Hi all, arbitration voting has begun! You have from now to November 14 to vote players off from opponents' rosters. These voted-off players become Restricted Free Agents and enter the draft pool, where their previous manager will have a $5 discount if they win the player at the auction draft.
These votes are very important for competitive balance. Every team *must* vote off a player on every other roster. In years past we have had some low vote totals, but we should have 100% participation.
-
"Before the end of arbitration (11/14), players may not be cut. Between the end of arbitration and the keeper deadline, players may be cut or traded. After the keeper deadline and before the auction draft, teams may not cut or trade any players...there is no salary cap from the end of the MLB season until the keeper deadline," which is 1/31/21. If I recall, offseason cuts do not come with penalties; in any case they get wiped away for the auction draft, which is the next time salary ca

Congratulations Weeghman's Wales! After this Sunday, can you begin to cut players without penalty?

A couple end-of-season notes:
- Rosters do not lock until this Sunday.
- On 10/15, our vote-off period will begin. Everyone *must* vote on players to vote-off from others' rosters. This is a condition of staying in the league.
- On 11/15, the vote-off period will end, and you will be able to make trades until the keeper deadline, 1/31/21.
- At the keeper deadline your roster must be legal.
Finally, I'm open to discussion on 2021 rules adjustments (playoffs, arbitration style, etc).
-
Congratulations Weeghman's Wales, short-season 2021 champion of the Harry Caray Memorial League!
-
At least one team currently cannot field a full lineup. We have lots of roster movement going on, but this should be remedied as soon as possible. All teams should have enough active MLB players to fill out a full starting lineup at all times -- it's literally the first rule in the book (1a). In part, this prevents teams eliminated after this week from loading up on MiLB. Happy trading! https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/rules
-
And, sorry, by next week I mean playoffs begin *AFTER NEXT WEEK* on Monday, August 31. That is also the TRADE DEADLINE, so everyone please update your block. Buyers and sellers commence your commerce!
-
That's right, it's the STRETCH RUN! (!??!?) Bizarro season means the playoffs start *next week* for 6 lucky teams. Records matter first, and then points. Division leaders will advance with a bye (call them A and B). The following 4 teams *irrespective of division* will be ordered 1-4 and will face one another in a wild card round: 1v4, 2v3. The winner of 1v4 will face B and the winner of 2v3 will face A. The winners of those will face one another in a two-week championship!
-
How do the 6 team playoffs work in this league? Is it 2 division winners plus 4 wild cards, top 3 from each division, or top 6 overall?
-
Anyone looking to move an OF for some pitching?

Regarding the season: If season's canceled, the current thinking from up top is that the offseason proceeds as usual. Cross that bridge when we get to it, etc. https://community.ottoneu.com/t/how-to-handle-salary-increases-and-arbitration-in-the-case-of-no-2020-mlb-season/7372/6
Regarding trades: I love it! And I encourage everyone to update their blocks so we can get good information and useful offers flowing.
-
Odds we finish this season?? Also, looking to move a SS or 3B. Looking for C, RP, and would swap OF and SP, too. Hit me up
-
Good question! But since we're a H2H league, there are *no positional caps.*
[per rules] d. There are no positional or IP caps for H2H leagues. H2H leagues have an option for a per week SP GS cap, which can be configured by the league commissioner
There *is* a continued 10 GS cap per matchup, including only 10 for longer matchups (like the first one).
6 teams are set to make the playoffs, so that will take the final 3 weeks of the season (9/6-27?). Trading deadline is the same, August 31.
-
Sorry I may have forgotten if it was discussed, but is there/what is the cap this season on games per position?
-
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines... it's Opening Day, better late than never! As a reminder, we have chosen to have two matchups simultaneously as part of the H2H format to work from a bigger sample. With only 60 games, each game is worth 2.7x usual -- so be sure to set your lineups. May the best team win!
-
Whatever you guys decide is fine with me...
-
2 teams per week works for me.
-
2 teams a week sounds good to me! Will be an interesting added layer.
-
Good question. From Niv on the boards: "Players on the new “COVID-19” IL will give an extra roster spot, similar to 60-day IL. We will work to have this new designation available on the site this week. This designation will hold for players both put on the list due to illness and who opt out of the 2020 season."
-
I'm 100% for that. I think facing 2 teams at once is probably best. I'm sure it's been covered somewhere on the board, but how are they handling players that opt out?
-
I hope everyone is doing okay. There are a couple of rule changes Ottoneu has implemented to help us navigate the short season. Everyone should read up on the Community Boards: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/coronavirus-update-pt-3-short-season-details/7580
One option that requires a choice from us is whether, to reduce variance, we want to turn on Multiple Matchups. Basically H2H leagues can make it so you face 2 or even 4 teams each week. I think it is worth it.
-
Since we didn't hear from a majority I'll keep it at 8:30pm ET to avoid any confusion. As the season isn't starting next week, we can always divide the draft in two if it starts getting late; speaking only for myself, my calendar is a bit more open than it was when we started this scheduling. If anyone has a hard stop tonight let me know and we can plan around that. Looking forward to it!
-
I'm good for either. Hope everyone's staying safe!
-
I have no objection.
-
I'd be fine with that. Also happy to stay at 8:30 if folks prefer.
-
Hey, hope everyone's staying healthy and safe. I imagine many of us had commitments that are no longer in place. Any objections to moving the draft up 30 mins to start at 8 pm rather than 830 pm?
