Part of the vote a few weeks ago was to maintain the slow draft on CouchManagers, so we'll start that 2-2.5 weeks before the start of the season, so around 3/12. I think 2-2.5 weeks was plenty of time to get it done and we can accelerate the last few picks as needed if we're getting close to the season. I'd still like to leave 2-3 days between end of draft and season start to for teams to make any roster edits via auctions. Let me know if anyone disagrees.
-
If it is slow draft I can probably sneak it in any time.

any evening is fine with me

League thoughts on when we should start the draft?
I’ve been enjoying the slow draft format on couch managers and would vote to keep it.
-
Doesn’t matter to me
-
I forgot to add that to our polling, but I don't believe anyone was against the switch. Anyone against a switch to combine into a single division?
-
Sorry if I missed the post. How will we be handling divisions moving forward?

Alrighty sounds like we'll be keeping the vote-off system as is for at least another year, but I think it'd be a good exercise to discuss under what context we'd like to switch. I personally think it's a better long-term solution, but I also think we have a good thing going as it is. Reminder that keepers/cuts are due by tomorrow at 11:59PM EST/8:59PM PST!
-
Indeed it is, some days last March I had 4 or 5 drafts same day and ''I only had 40 leagues''. Though a lot of my teams are pretty much set to go, got to plan on an Excel spreadsheet and calendar so I won't miss any. It's almost a full time GM job but without the salary. I would say about 50-60 are 20$ tier just for the fun of it. Think I'm goin to join Ottoneu Anonymous at a church near me...hahaha

100+? Seriously? That’s crazy if it’s true. Either way, no judgement here. So what you’re saying is you basically pay Niv’s salary with your buy-in $. You’re single handedly creating jobs! America!
Lineups aside, draft season must be insane.
-
More than 100, it's crazy. Since I stopped beer and smoking, I'm putting that money on Ottoneu, at least I'm having fun until I have to do all those lineups every day...............

Question for Big Papi:
How many leagues do you play in?!?!
Every time I scroll down on an individual player page to look at "recent transactions" involving that player, inevitably, at least one of those transactions involved Big Papi memories. It seems you have at least one share of every damn player in the Ottoneu ecosystem. Are you in like 57 different leagues?
-
Sorry I missed the survey monkey. I just voted, but sounds like we are sticking with vote-off. I’m generally agnostic, but again, if we switched, I’d want a slow transition. I agree with AZ in that it would represent a significant strategic shift in team construction.
This is a good league with good managers. Knowing how challenging it can be to keep leagues going for the long-term, that should be the focus. Competitive keeper/dynasty leagues are way more fun that one-off redraft le

Agree with requirement of majority (if you recall my vote wa for arb)

I agree with Capital Hill. While I would like to try Arb $ I think it should be a majority. At least 3/4 should be in favor of it IMHO.

Even though I would prefer $ arb, I agree with Capitol Hill on this one. I also feel like more weight should be given to the original members and Commissioners votes. This will only be my third year in this league. It has been fun and I don't want to mess it up.
-
Opinion, but for a change this fundamental to the mechanics/experience of the league, there should be a large majority in favor of a change.
-
Well, we're currently split at 5 to 5 for allocation vs vote off. Who are the last two teams who have not voted?

Please make sure to submit your responses on the SurveyMonkey link. It’s anonymous so I can’t gather there and also via comments here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9BY8YZS

LOL @ BOP. Personally, I prefer the vote system.
-
I prefer allocation because I want to add my $3 to Capitol Hill's pitching staff!!! :)
-
I prefer the vote off system
-
I prefer the vote off system. This is a major change and would make the league significantly different. The veto system keeps the auction and free agent pool healthier. It allows for faster rebuilbs and has been a big reason we have not had issues with replacing owners. Less impactful players are dropped each season as inflation gets crazy in the arb system. We have managed to keep a balanced and successful league going with the vote off system.

Yup that's right OBB. I like it cause everyone's "vote" (in this case, allocation $s) ends up mattering to some degree. Also rewards teams for hitting a HR on a player before price skyrockets. I.e, Capitalists has $6 Julio but he obviously got voted off at that price. If the 5 managers who voted Julio off all put $3 on him and the others who didn't vote him added some, he'd be ~$25-30 this year. I just think building teams are hurt for finally nailing on a prospect bc they get voted of
-
So if I am looking at Arb correctly a player who had every team allocate 1 dollar to a specific player could increase his salary $11 and if they used all 3 dollars on that one player could increase his salary $33. Obviously this is a very simplistic way to look at it with so many different ways to use your $25. I think this alone would create a much deeper free agent pool every year and that does not even include the $2 and $1 increase at the end of each year.

Hey IRB - see section viii.c of the rules to see Ottoneu’s description of how the system works. https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/rules#offseason
-
I don’t know how the allocation system works. If you can tell me where it is in the rules I can pull it up. Thanks!
-
Also, I created a survey for a few potential rule changes that we've been discussing recently. If everyone could fill out the survey in the next few days, that'd be great: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9BY8YZS

Welcome Ridin the Pine! You've joined a great league that's had minimal turnover since inception, so we're looking forward to you joining! For those who haven't paid for the upcoming season, the deadline to do so is 1/31. This includes KC Bones, myself, and Capitalists.
-
I just abandoned the vacant team so it should appear on the available teams list on the Ottoneu boards. I'll also make a couple posts about the team to see if we can snag someone. I'll also create some Doodle polls for divisions vs. no divisions (though early results look like no division) and a swtich from vote-off to arb. I agree with Gar-Ber that we'd have to think carefully of the transition, and when that transition should occur.
-
I'm fine with no divisions.
As for a change to vote-off, I'm not opposed, however, I'd like to discuss what the transition would look like. For example, it might be a good idea to have an informal vote-off of a few more players from each team so there is a larger talent-rich bidding pool for the transition year.
I've enjoyed the challenge of this league and all the participating teams, and I hope to be in it for a long time.

So am I, no divisions and arb instead of vote off

No takers on Zod yet? Maybe we should start marketing the team on the open market?
-
I like no divisions. I think I prefer money arb, but don’t have strong feelings either way. I brought this up last year and I thought the majority wanted vote off.
-
The balanced schedule is the most important to me. I had to play Garber 3 of the first 4 weeks. It created a nice hole for me. Garbers team was dominate this year, Well done and Congrats.

Sure, we could put a few things to a vote. I'm fine with removing divisions as long as the schedule is more or less balanced. This may take a bit more planning but I'd also be interested in switching from a vote-off system to the other arb system where each manager allocates $ to other teams, so I'm curious if others have any strong feelings either way.
-
I vote for that

Anyone interested in voting on the removal of the divisions? All but one season has been pretty lopsided with the amount of winning records in one division. Only year it was balanced there was a team that had only one win and 43 losses. Top two records get the bye week.

When do I need to send in $ for this year?
-
Hey everyone! Just a reminder that we are looking for one replacement owner this offseason for Zod. I'd like to ask this group again for a replacement before posting the team as available on Ottoneu's board. Anyone have someone in mind?
-
Hope everyone has a good thanksgiving. My availability will be sketchy for the next week or so, so if you send me an awesome trade offer, don't be offended if it takes me a while to respond.
-
Thanks, BOP - just got my votes in. No we haven't found a replacement yet, but cuts aren't due until the New Year which is the more critical deadline. I think we take our time and be thoughtful about who we bring on board. Would much rather have longevity out of a new owner, than a 1-year filler. Also thank you to Bluegrass, Logan, and OnBase for already paying for the upcoming year! Please make your payments sooner rather than later so we're not scrambling to replace someone if they bail.
-
I think today is the last day to get your arb votes in. Any success finding a replacement for Zod?
-
I think if ohtani was on the Yankees he would be a shoe in. Maybe I should Also say WHEN he is on the Yankees he will be a shoe in.
-
Ohtani. Looking forward to next year!
-
It’s Ohtani. Team MVP and real world MVP. I know Fangraphs WAR has Judge ahead, but Ohtani is doing things that, if sustained for several more years, will put him in the discussion for greatest player of all time.
