Welcome to AJAXville!'s trade block has been updated!

I have decided to move up the draft to 7 pm EST on sunday 03/18 to get more picks in. If anyone has a conflict with this please let me know.

I used my phone for part of my last draft, it wasn't as easy as the computer, but it worked just fine. The hardest part was nominating players. Bidding was easy
-
Ok, I've been traveling too much, but I'm fine with bumping up the draft time on 3/18 an hour or two in hopes that we can complete most, if not all of the auction. The other options are rough for me for the 2nd night. 3/24 early would work or I could probably do a couple of hours on 3/22 if we can do it a bit earlier. I have a 7:30 PST flight that would complicate the current time and I'm not sure how the interface may or may not work on a phone.
-
A total of eight people answered the poll including myself, and so far it is looking like Thursday 03/22 at 8:30 EST is the most agreeable time for the second day of draft, however this did not work for one person (please message me). I would also be willing to move the first draft time up on sunday the 18th, but I am hesitant to do so until everyone agrees because I know everyone can make the 8 pm start time.

Sure - I would be fine with moving the draft time forward an hour on 3/18 if everyone else agrees
-
i think someone else had mentioned it as well.. but if there is any chance to sneak up the Sunday 3/18 draft time by an hour or so that could help fit more into the first day - esp for any east coast folks

I have created a poll to make the process of choosing a second draft day easier. Please go to this link (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GTZ225T) and check from the possible choices all of the times that you would be available. If none of these will work please use the other field and/or send me a message.

Dude, batter, keep up. We are talking about a second draft date because the draft will likely take 8 hours.
-
Why are we talking about changing the draft date? We all joined the league knowing the draft date...and in my case, it's one of the few dates that works between now and 3/29, so that was a factor in picking this league.
-
Could weeknights work? We are running out of weekends before opening day.. I don't think planning 3 or 4 hours on a weeknight works for most of us, but maybe an hour or 2?
-
Can we finalize the draft times (2 days?)
-
Unfortunately I would not be able to do a draft this weekend
-
+1 for a two day draft, ideally in the same weekend.
-
I'm alright with scheduling a second day for the draft. I know there are a few of us who have drafts scheduled on the weekend of the 24th/25th, so that following weekend might not work for some of us. Just a suggestion, but what about maybe scheduling the first portion of the draft for this upcoming Sunday the 11th and moving it up to 7pm ET to accommodate those who are on the East Coast? I know it would be short notice but just a suggestion. Or just do back to back days on 17th/18th?

Would you all mind terribly if we kept the first portion of the auction limited to about 3 hours? I am on the East Coast and with the late 8 PM ET start it would be nice for me to be able to get to bed around 11 PM for work Monday morning. Maybe we can then plan on holding the second portion on a weekend afternoon to accommodate East/West Coasts?
-
The current draft day time works for me - but do think having a 2nd day/time planned as a fallback if it needs to be paused would be good as well

Draft time is good with me.
-
Everybody good with the draft day/time? As Sombrero said, this years draft will be long... should we start talking about a second day to finish it up?
-
Hello! I'm excited to be in this league with all of you. Not sure if you guys have decided on the format that will be used but whatever the group decides is fine with me. The draft date and time that is currently set works as well. Thanks!

Hello. My bud and I just joined. Longtime fantasy baseball players looking for something new and this looks fun.
-
Works for me too. Now lets get 3 more owners...
-
That works for me

I would say our best bet is to stick to a 5X5 Roto league this year (no playoff system), and if it's something that the majority is still interested in doing next year then we can resume this conversation in the off-season. They are likely to find a few flaws or at least make some refinements after this inaugural year of the playoff systems anyways. Just my thoughts on the situation.
-
I don't have a strong opinion either way.
-
of the volatility. From a change in strategy (or game play) - that would be one that I would point to. In roto as long as you are building towards the innings limit you wouldn't worry about how your pitchers starts line up. But if you switch into a H2H format (and more so if its one week) you could be in a spot where your best SP's have 1 start weeks and your opponents might have 2 start weeks. Does play into some of the luck factor.. and could break either way for any given team

I'd be fine with either playoff system, not opposed to the change to H2H. Its really just going into it with the understanding that the majority of the season is playing for positioning and a spot in those playoffs (so maybe you have to make some moves to get there a little earlier, etc). Would the playoffs have been one or two weeks? That would probably be my biggest point of contention. If there was a H2H playoff at the end, making those matchups two weeks would take away a little...

I was waiting to have a little more consensus before making a decision, but it sounds like everyone would be ok with ditching the playoff system and just doing a straight 5x5 roto all year. I think ottoneu still has some work to do in terms of figuring out these playoff systems they just unveiled this year. I have switched the format.
If anyone has a problem with this please message me and we will figure something out.

I agree with some of your points, and I honestly don't know what strategic differences would come into play with a late season format switch. I bet we aren't the only league facing this dilema (as the playoff format is new this year).
Does anyone else have a strong opinion either way? I'm open to doing straight roto or points playoff like it is now. I don't like the idea of points all year, but if anyone wants to convince me it's better than roto, I will listen.
-
For example, if you are in 5th or 6th place in Roto, you have virtually no chance of winning the league. The shift to a playoff would keep more teams in the hunt, without penalizing the teams at the top. The teams at the top are still in the best shape to win, but they can't just stand pat and coast to a championship.
Points leagues tend to be more volatile, again, it doesn't usually affect the top teams too much, but some teams get lucky and others get unlucky every year.
-
If there was a way to have a full/regular season winner (on a roto basis) and a playoff winner (on the H2H basis) - I agree that would be beneficial to keep everyone involved all season long. I play in another roto league, where we run the full season as the 'regular season' but also have a two month 'playoff season' for the last two months of the season - with that intent of keeping teams that may have gotten off to a rough start but stayed active into it. But no need to change strategy

Being new to these leagues - are the prizes then based on who wins the H2H playoff period? That would probably be the biggest thing in my mind. Playing all season and managing the rosters with a roto-based strategy, only to ultimately be placed into a H2H playoff scenario where there could be a bit more volatility on a week to week (or two week to two week, depending on how these matchups are structured?) basis.

What, specifically, is the issue with going from Roto to fangraph points for the playoffs? From what I understand, fangraph points are very closely aligned with roto categories in player valuation (as opposed to sabr points, which values different players higher and lower, based on things that aren't factored into roto scoring, like defense). The shift for the playoff would minimize the biggest drawback, in my mind, of roto, that being loss of interest in August and September among some teams.
-
So I think we need to pick either H2H FG Points, H2H SABR Points or straight Roto (5x5)...
-
I guess I'm a little confused. The league settings says it's Old School (5x5), which is Roto, right? The H2H leagues all have H2H in the scoring description. I'll play either H2H or Roto, but I don't want to play Roto all season and then go to some H2H playoff for the last month. In the description about H2H options, they say that it's only FanGraph points or SABR points http://community.ottoneu.com/t/head-to-head-scoring-coming-to-ottoneu-fantasy-baseball-in-2018/2669
-
The only option for playoff scoring is fangraph points or sabr points because it is head-to-head. So the only two choices are keep the scoring the way it is or switch to a no playoff system with the standard rotisserie 5x5.

Is h2h categories an option for the playoffs? That seems like a good compromise. I see batter's point about switching from Roto to a point system, but I like what sombrero said about keeping the top half of the league competitive later in the season.
-
Yeah, I'm not in favor of switching scoring types, that's for sure. I had someone interested and then he pointed that out and wasn't interested.
-
Tony and I have a draft on the 25th, so we wouldn't make that.
-
Also for those new to ottoneu, the auction draft for a new league takes 6-8 hours. However, I can pause at any time and resume at a later date so that we can do it in two 3-4 hour sessions. Please message me if you have any preferences or restrictions on the date and time for the draft so I can plan something that works for everybody.

If the majority do not like this league format I am willing to change it to a standard 5x5 rotisserie format.
