  • Clearly there is grey area here because that clause does not specify a time period for remediation. Additionally, sections I.b. and V.d. suggest that the penalty for exceeding roster limits is just the frozen roster. So it’s not 100% clear. This is why other leagues I’m in address it proactively, as I think we should. Some of my leagues use a 24-hr rule, others do not time box at all. But nothing wrong with identifying the grey area and deciding as a league the best way to address it.

  • Nothing wrong with BBT’s original post, it is well within the scope of his duties as commissioner. Folks suggesting otherwise are simply not reading the rules. Section I.c.: “At no time shall a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league’s commissioner.”

  • it was put out there as a reminder, not a demand, I do the same thing in the other league I run..I give reminders about things all the time, but GC does have a point if we are going to bitch about every little thing between ourselves iy's going to be a very long season. Really let's try to get along and have a good season.

  • One reason it matters - at any point of the season - is that you could spend big money on a waiver claim, cut only half the money you need to cut, and then wait it out in the hopes that your cuts will get claimed or else auctioned very quickly, solving the other half of the problem for you. It’s the reason a number of my leagues have a 24 hr rule. Clearly this is a valid topic of debate and it matters at any point of the season, not just once games have started.

  • I'm insane about making my roster legal, so you won't see the red next to my team for very long, but can we step back a second and calm down. If your roster is illegal, you can't make any moves. That's a massive penalty that helps the rest of the league. I'd love it for one of my competitors to be locked out of setting their roster on opening day. I've played in a dozen different Ottoneu leagues and this one is truly a unicorn. Can't wait to see what's next.

  • I've never had it come up before the actual season starts and actual MLB rosters are finalized lol. Let alone its not even been 3 days. Those aspects, to me, are very pedantic.

  • Rules are clear that rosters need to be legal but they are not clear on timing or consequences. As a result, this discussion comes up in pretty much every league I’ve been in, and each league determines what is acceptable. Can’t remember what has been discussed here previously because I have more leagues than I can keep track of, but there’s nothing pedantic about the discussion. If we’re going to bitch every time a valid concern is raised, this is going to be a long season.

  • This is the most pedantic league this site hosts, I'll swear by it. The penalty for having an invalid roster is that you cannot make any roster moves. There is nothing against the rules leaving a roster invalid, especially when the season hasn't started for all but two MLB teams. MLB final rosters aren't set. Final injury designations aren't made. If you want me to have a valid offer, make some noms I can't pass up or trade moves I'd be tempted to move.
