So I've been looking over the Doodle calendar and see that there's little overlap for dates among those who've completed it. I put down all Saturdays because at least a couple of folks on here expressed to me in some form (introductory emails, mostly) that Saturdays worked best for them. I'm certainly not too proud to rerun a calendar poll with a wider range of dates and options! :)

Hi Everyone, I am Ben. Sorry for the late post. I like long walks on the beach, poetry and candlelit dinners. When watching baseball, I am a Royals fan, but I come to you all heartbroken from seeing Steve Balboni's Royals' HR record being broken. I hope to recover from the disappointment and be able to follow baseball this year . . . but I cannot in good faith promise that I will be able to recover. If I do, I hope to be a long standing member of this "fantasy" baseball community.

If you have not checked out the slack channels you really should. Ton of useful info. There is a link in this page to join: http://community.ottoneu.com/t/welcome-to-the-ottoneu-community/739

Sunday works great for me. I have joined that slack Ottoneu page. the vets were saying our first year draft could take 6-8 hours! It is good idea to take two days to do it!
-
Perhaps Sunday night would be better for everyone. I am free every Sunday night.
-
I was just wondering why the draft dates are all Saturdays?

The constitution looks great!

Hi everyone, apologize for taking so long to post Iโd hate to be the first one booted for inactivity but Iโm Ryan, a Red Sox fan living in Boston my whole life. The ups and downs of the sox really grew my interest in the importance of system building, player value, and advanced stats. So with that, Iโm very excited to participate in this league. Iโve played fantasy baseball for quite a few years but this is my first on ottoneu. The constitution looks great and Iโm looking forward to th

I have corrected the typo in 7.E., updated the text in 7.C. to reflect the consensus on "repeated or gross violation of the rules" and made made a note in 7.D. specifying 8/12 owners. Looks like we are making good progress toward a widely acceptable set of rules.
-
continued from previous post....I think the proposed language change to 7D makes sense. It looks like there might be a typo in 7.E- I'm guessing it should reference 7.A rather than 6.A regarding timing of removal. Lastly, I personally would not mind starting the draft before 6:00pm, but understand if 6:00 is the earliest we can start. Apologies for the long posts.
-
Sorry I am a little late to this discussion....The constitution looks great, so that you, Geoff, for drafting it! A few notes on the constitution and below comments:
1. I agree with the proposed change to 7C, so that is reads "repeated or gross violation of the rules"
2. I agree that the removed owner should not have to be bought out--by initially buying into the league they are accepting any accompanying responsibilities
3. I also agree that we should change 7D to "8 or more"

I'm going to post a Doodle Calendar to help us schedule the auction. In the interest of simplicity, I'm going to only offer Saturday start dates from mid-February through mid-March. After we schedule the auction start date, we can discuss a potential spillover date. I would expect the start time to be about 6 PM EST but I'm of course open to discussion on that, too.

June, good points. For 7D, we might want to change the threshold to "8 or more owners." Re 7E, to something like, "by a unanimous vote of owners not subject to extraordinary removal." And as long as everybody agrees to the constitution, I don't think we should have to "buy-out" the removed owner's team (though I appreciate your rationale). And to your last point: an owner who changes his team name must necessarily consider the vast and potentially life-altering cons

7D, should we clarify that all owners get to vote, including the owner who being proposed for removal? Although that conflicts with 7E because that rule requires unanimous vote.
7E, should the other owners buy out the removed owner? We have to pay $50 per season to play, if an owner is voted out during the season, I think the league should "buy" that team from the owner.
9B, if a team name changes throughout the season, how will the Team Name category be settled? Name at end of sea

I like Geoffโs amendment to 7.C. Makes sense.
-
I think "inactivity, willful violation of the rules or abusive behavior" covers enough. It might be difficult to demonstrate "willfulness," though. So something more demonstrable, such as "repeated or gross violation of the rules" might be a bit less ambiguous.

Brad has identified an important question. My reading of the removal section is that there are only three reasons for removing an owner: inactivity, willful violation of the rules or abusive behavior. If there are other potential reasons for removal we ought to consider including those in 7.C.
-
I agree, proposed Constitution looks strong. I am a bit concerned about the Owner Removal section 7. According to 7B, can "any owner nominate another owner for removal" for any reason? Like if I don't like the way another owner wears his hair, can I start a campaign to get him booted? Admittedly, it might be tough to get a 3/4 majority vote on that basis, but I just wonder if we should draft a little more clarity on what constitutes a removable offense beyond what is specified in 7C.
-
The constitution looks really good and detailed. Thank you for drafting it for the league!

I competed a first-draft of a league constitution (link on next post). I tried to include basic rules that would account for events that typically affect fantasy leagues. Most importantly, the draft includes rules for changing the rules, challenging rules interpretations and replacing owners. In my experience, putting these in writing from the start prevents headaches later. Having rules in place before the draft is probably a good idea. Continued...

I saw this article on Fangraphs. Have you ever wondered what batters are doing during the 30 seconds they take to get ready for the next pitch? A look inside Marwin Gonzalez's head during his vacation from the batter's box. last third of the article is hilarious.

Hey guys, sorry I'm a little late to this but my name is Quinn. I live in upstate New York, but have been an Angels fan ever since I watched them win the World Series my first year following baseball in 2002. I have been playing fantasy baseball for 7 or 8 years now, but this is my first time on Ottoneu. I'm free for the draft any day and whether it is one or two days does not matter much to me. I'm really looking forward to playing in a more in depth fantasy league with you all

I was planning on bidding $61 for Miggy...draft plan ruined.
-
This my second Ottoneu league but I have not played a season. I took over a team a few days before I joined this league. three other teams have changed owners since I joined. I just joined but the problem is clear, nobody embraced the Ottoneu concept. Nearly every team was over budget. I'm sure some were at or near 400 bucks after the draft. I did dump half the team when I took it over. Miggy at $61 and not one prospect!

Coupons look like they could be useful. I am in favor of rules that increase competitiveness and interest throughout the year. Keeping everyone engaged and participating means more fun.
-
Thanks for the suggestion to customize the league further, Jason (Monongahela). The article Brad posted is helpful; I'm on board with the arbitration coupon idea he highlights if other folks are. It's such a simple tweak to the status quo but I can see how it might make plenty of difference to those of us who might find ourselves down in the standings.

If you are so inclined, I would encourage you to read this post: https://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/can-you-force-your-league-to-compete/. The MiLB draft part sounds a little complicated, but I think the "coupons" plan might be a very useful incentive to consider that rewards competition up and down the standings. After all, why should finishing fourth be the same as finishing LAST (and probably be more of a disadvantage if LAST place was focused on tanking for next year)?
-
Hey there, I'm Brad and I have played a couple years of Ottoneu Roto, but this is my first experience in a points league. I appreciate Monongahela's suggestion of customizing the league to meet our needs, and I will say that I would love to be part of a league where EVERY place in the standings matters. The biggest frustration I have seen with Ottoneu is that the extensive rosters lead to losing teams dumping talent and checking out until next year (or for good).

Hi all, Chris here. I am a Red Sox fan living in Boston. I have been playing fantasy baseball for about 10 years, but this is my first Ottoneu league. I only recently came across Ottoneu while reading articles on Fangraphs and quickly decided I needed to play--I am very excited to get closer to feeling like a real GM. For the draft, any weekend in February or March should work for me, and I also would not mind splitting it between two days. Looking forward to starting the season.
-
Great to see the league fill up so quickly. I grudgingly root for the Royals and live in San Antonio. I've been playing fantasy for about eight years. This is my first in Ottoneu. Another 10 or 15 years and I might have it figured out. I can do any day for the draft but wouldn't be opposed to making it a multiple day affair either. I do have young children and wife who already isn't impressed with the sounds of a long-term dynasty league. - Scott

Hello everyone, I'm Kurt. I'm a Blue Jays fan from Ontario. I have been playing fantasy baseball for 5 years now before I stumbled upon Ottoneu. Very excited to join a long-term dynasty-style league. Also, any day for the draft works for me.

Hello all, sticking with the blue collar city, Midwest/East Coast theme, I am from Milwaukee and a Brewers fan born and raised. Have since moved to Denver and catch a Rockies game from time to time too. (Fun ice breaker: I was in the bathroom at the Rockies/Dodgers game when Puig threw the ball from the RF warning track to nab Story trying to leg out a triple... have yet to go to the bathroom at a game since. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F0jIlpkFDVI ). Looking forward to a new year and league!
-
Glad to see everyone in the league. In addition to setting the draft date(s) we might also consider a league charter that includes rules and procedures specific to our league--like when new rules can be proposed and when they go into effect. After reading through some of the community posts, it seems lots of leagues come up with new rules to add to the standard rules on the web site: https://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/a-template-for-a-fantasy-league-charter/. Not all of that may apply to us.

And...we're full! Thanks for joining, everybody! It's probably a good idea to introduce yourself on the message board. Apart from the hellos and welcomes, we have several weeks to establish an auction data & time.

Hello Jim here. I am a tigers fan and I live in Fraser Michigan. I have been playing fantasy baseball since around 2001. I have in a dynasty leagues for 7 years. Friday is the worst day for me to draft any other day I can make work with some notice.
-
Hey all! Tribe fan here from NJ. Excited about this league! New to ottoneu but have been doing roto for about 10 years now. Also relatively flexible for draft dates as long as I have some advance notice.

Welcome aboard! I shoulda introduced myself, I realize. I'm Geoff. I started this league with a couple old friends (June Friedman's owner and another good dude who has yet to join) after we realized we missed our once long-running but now long-defunct Yahoo keeper league (I picked Hanley off of waivers his rookie season and traded for Miguel Cabrera when he was a baby!).
I grew up a Braves fan but having a kid in Baltimore city means we're an Orioles family now.

What's up fellas? By way of introduction, I am a life-ling Pirate fan. I started playing Rotisserie in the early 90's and am psyched for a long-term league. I am pretty flexible for draft dates. I am in Delaware so eastern time zone.
-
Hi! Welcome to the league. The first (only?) order of business is to nail-down our auction date and time. I'm assuming that Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are best for most people. Let us know if that's a bad starting point for you. And if your schedule is *really* crunched in early Spring, use this space to put forward some available dates for us to work with.
