I'm blaming it on user error, though I swear I clicked that "make a claim" box.
-
The computer 💻 probably assumed Taxman was in last or looked at the standings and didn’t believe it. “That can’t be right”.

"When a player is dropped, other team managers have 24 hours to claim him on waivers for 100% of his salary, with the team lowest in the standings getting priority."
Only thing I can think of is you thought you put in a claim but didn't get the mechanics of it quite right (there is a box that has to be checked)
-
that's strange, I put in a waiver claim for Jeimer Candelario and thought it went to the team lowest in the standings, but Taxman (in first place) got him. Or do I misunderstand the process?
-
Three weeks ago I left the draft with 18 MLB pitchers. I now don't have enough to fill an active lineup. I hate pitchers.

Season is off and runnin! Looking forward to matching wits with you all this year, this is my favorite format of fantasy baseball out there.
As an aside, anyone heard from Munson? Looks like he hasn’t set his lineup these last few days, which is out of character from our fearless leader.
-
Thank you, Foot, for reminding all of us to line up tonight for our annual spanking. :) It would really pain me if any of us did not show up tonight. It's been a crazy few weeks, Foot, Munson, and myself have been participating in two simultaneous slow drafts which I find taxing on my brain. I am also introducing a new girlfriend to my fantasy baseball habit and am now realizing that she is the fifth gf I've put through this in recent years! Flying by the seat of my pants. SZ

We have an Auction Draft scheduled for tonight...I hope everyone will be here
-
Do we have a Discord server or anything for league wide chat, or are we committed to using a message board only?
-
Kevin, I thought you would be ecstatic that you now have the opportunity to bid on Yimi Garcia on the 30th when before it looked like you would be denied!

this round of cuts should have happened BEFORE these free agent signings
-
Appreciate the understanding, folks. Apologies for the disruption. With so much uncertainty during the lockout, I do think flexibility makes sense this year. SZ and I have opened up penalty-free cuts set to expire 3/23/22 with the draft on 3/30/22 and the season starting 4/7/22. With a furry of free agent signings and spring training activity, sincerely hope this round of penalty-free cuts can be beneficial for all. Thanks again.
-
What did we ever decide on here? It looks like the votes were 7-3 for the free cut, but rosters are still locked. Do we need to do something to make it happen or is it still under discussion?
-
I usually try and give the benefit of the doubt...but this is the second time he missed a deadline (2021 Arbitration...as a result $33 less allocated dollars across the board). If this was a more cutthroat league like G20, I'd say a penalty is warranted. That said, I like the fact that this league is more draft and hold than having to mine rosters/free agents daily. I'm willing to give Fosten a pass in the interest of sheer competitiveness to the other 11 teams, myself included.

speaking as the new guy here...there's a lot to be said for these deadlines and their importance. those of us who made the deadline, at this point, are at a disadvantage. if you're going to move the deadline, perhaps every team that cut a player should have dibs on that player if their situation changed re the "new" deadline.
-
I'll be that guy and oppose the proposed free cut. The keeper deadline had already been extended, making cuts well ahead of spring training is part of the challenge of this particular format (and hiding your cuts as long as possible is also a strategic move), and this is a significant financial and roster windfall to anyone who didn't make all their cuts by the deadline. But imaginary baseball is hardly important stuff, so I don't really care.

Yes to free cut

I'm good with a free cut stage as well.

I’m fine with another free cut stage, as much as I enjoy the hilarity of the co-Commish missing his deadline after reminding me I missed the payment deadline >:)
-
Fine with me.

Considering I didn't realize that I had already missed the roster cut deadline, I'm 100% on board with a penalty-free cut at some point in the future as we (hopefully) get closer to real-life baseball.
-
Fine by me, (on one last no penalty drop window). Honestly, this should be standard, because doing this on 1/31 is like flying blind. FA season isn't even over by then, even without a lockout. That doesn't mean too much for position players, but it means ALOT for pitchers. A new FA acquisition could mean a different role for someone you want to keep.

Like a dumbass, I had used the roster organizer to mark all my cuts, but forgot to actually click the cut button before midnight. By the time I realized a half hour later, rosters were already locked. I don't recall how ottoneu processes such a thing, but my roster is invalid and overbudget, so if you see my cuts coming in late, this is the reason why. Apologies for the disturbance. Looking forward to another fun baseball season. Peace.
-
Yeah, it's gotten to the point where I consider 2nd place leading the league of "everyone else" because Foot is just so dominant. I had that spot for most of the season but ran out of pitching at the end (this was a common theme in all my leagues this year). Either, way, grats again, Foot!

Foot's reign of terror is extremely impressive. Congrats on another great year - maybe next year someone will knock the king off the mountain. This is one of the most fun leagues I've played in and love coming back every year trying to beat the 4x Champ. Everyone enjoy the offseason and don't bid up my players too much in arbitration! :)
-
Thank you! However, I have only won the last four as Mudville was the inaugural champion. I will be back seeking my fifth next year though...
-
Congratulations, Foot. When I created this league I didn't think one team would win the first five seasons, but here we are. Not only winning each year by a lot, but showing up on the global leaderboards. Will the streak stop? Someday, perhaps, but you look poised to make it six in a row next year.

exactly. Just clearing cap space for possible late summer trades. I had an initial cap penalty of $5 for dropping $9 Kirby Yates. After 30 days, I auctioned him and won him for $5, and dropped him immediately, saddling me with a $3 cap penalty. Now, I added him for $3 and dropped him again, leaving me with a current $2 cap penalty.
-
If you are already paying a cap penalty for the said high priced free agent, this strategy will reduce the amount of the cap penalty
-
Help me out here. I can't figure out the strategy of adding a high priced free agent and immediately dropping him.

I did it! Over the last 30 days, I outscored Foot's Diamond Dogs (by a grand total of 0.6 points). I don't expect Kluber has any more no-hitters in him, and I still haven't quite figured out the strategy for a successful Ottoneu offense, or whether it makes any sense to roster prospects, but I'll take the small victories.
-
If anyone is interested in the upside of Braves prospect Christian Pache, he can be yours for just a few buck, I'm ready to sell low.

Hey, Port Ruppert, my outlook on life and the draft this year is upbeat. I've got my two Moderna vaccine shots and avoided getting the Rona this past year. Headed to Playa del Carmen in less than a month. Five of us are currently in a slow draft that is wrapping up and since I can't beat Foot in this league, I'm hoping to beat him there. I'm not rebuilding, just reloading.

Pumped for the draft! What's everyone's outlook on their fantasy and real life teams this year?
Port Ruppert Mundy's: looking to build on last year's surprising finish, but need one or more of my young guys to take a leap to do it.
Atlanta Braves: gotta bounce back from the heartbreak in the NLCS last year, I think we'll win the division but don't see how we can get past the Dodgers or Padres without a few breaks going our way
-
Pitchers and Catchers reporting in a couple weeks! Yay baseball!
That said, any idea to when we can expect to hold the auction draft?

Hi folks - I'm the new guy here. Looking forward to playing in this league. Some of you know me and know that I am a highly active trader. I'm hoping to make a lot of moves ahead of the 1/31 deadline so if you're interested in any player on my roster, feel free to reach out or send me an offer. I move pretty quickly.
-
I won't be returning to the league. Please remove my name from the team so I no longer receive emails. Good luck next season.
-
Crap. Sorry guys. Been crazy busy at work. Not like me to miss deadlines. Totally forgot. After I lose my mind, what goes next? My sight? My hearing? Alice, there's a kid at the door selling magazines. Should I let him in?

Is Fosten okay?

It was the closest Ive ever been to the lead in this league so I made a move. Sadly all of my hitters decided to phone in their Septembers. I do have a championship-level pitching staff to build around for next year.

So glad I was finally able to get in an Ottoneu league, and a competitive one at that. Next year, I hope to get more out of my 3 highest paid players than I got this year out of Ohtani, Verlander, and Donaldson. Looking forward to next year.
-
Great Season all. Think this is my best finish and probably could have done better. My favorite league and ditto on make up of the league now. Already working on my deep list for next season. So tough in here and, hopefully MacKenzie Gore finally makes it to the bigs sometime this coming season. Knew it wasn't happening this one with minors not playing.
-
Thanks, SZ...I feel fortunate to come out on top of the mad scramble this season turned out to be. There were about 4-5 teams that could have won if a few things had played out a little differently. I have a feeling next year will be even more intense in this league and that's for the best. Here's to hoping it will be a more normal 162 game season, though.
-
Very fun season, gang. It was a great distraction from the crazy world around us to be able to play fantasy baseball this year, since it was in doubt at some points. Always love how engaged each of the managers are here and how seriously everyone takes it. I'll be crying over my late season collapse that prevented me from a Bronze medal all offseason but will be back next year ready to try to knock Foot off of his lofty perch.
-
Congratulations, Foot [cut and paste] Threepeat! You are not only the class of our league, you are one of the best ottoneu managers in the universe. Congrats to Slizz on your impressive second place finish. Nice to see a newcomer take his squad and put a charge into it. I think the line up of managers we have now is the strongest yet. Looking forward to next season. Be kind and place all your allocation money on the good squads. See you in March.

Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make. Back in the Beforetimes KDL212 and I were negotiating a trade for Justin Verlander. I offered him a dented tin of smoked salmon. He declined and man, am I happy. Yes, the salmon did cause my skin to turn red and itch for a good week, but that was better than Verlander's season.
