I would prefer to NOT have a draft in May when MLB does not even know what they are doing yet. We will have plenty of time to have a draft in June if the season starts in July. Also we will have a better understanding of MLB rosters and schedule which can impact draft as well. Drafting in June for a July start is the same as drafting March for April start.
-
Does it make sense to have the draft on 5/31 and then it's done when / if the season begins??? That way we're not scrambling. Also, due to a shortened season, does it make sense to have another "cut window"???
-
Good call, Dream - this weekend, I'll put together a poll to figure out availability for the next few weeks in June.
-
Would it be useful to figure out what June looks like now in terms of availability since people generally vacation and such in the summer? Waiting for a last minute draft and summer life could potentially collide. Not sure how much of all of that there will be this year but I know I will not be around for June 7 (just focusing on Sundays for now).
-
Oops - the latest date allowed by the system at this point is May 31, so I've moved it back to that. We'll see if Niv gives another update allowing us to move it further.
-
I tend to agree with pushing back - there's still so much uncertainty about what's going to happen. For now, I'll move it to June 14th. If some of the published reports about starting in early July come true, then maybe we do it then, otherwise we can re-evaluate!
-
Agreed push it back until they start spring training again. Essentially would be same time as we normally draft prior to start.
-
I vote we push it back.
-
Fine either way.
-
I say we push it back further

I pushed the auction back by 2 more weeks as we await more word.

I am for waiting as well

I also like wait + slow draft.
-
Waiting seems to be the best way to go since there is even more uncertainty than when we initially decided to wait. But when the timeline does start to clear up (let's hope a few weeks from now) then a slow draft sounds like a great option to adjust to the irregular and unpredictable set of circumstances. The Notorious Gregorius vote is wait + slow draft.
-
My vote is to wait for a while longer (few more weeks?) to see if the season gets canceled. No sense doing any type of draft if the season is wiped out.
-
Sorry I may be in minority here, but I don’t see much of a point in any auction right now. There is a greater likelihood of no mlb season than there is a shortened season at this point. Even if a shortened season with no fans occurs, we will have at least a 3-4 week run up timeframe for players to begin “spring” training again. I say continue to wait.
-
I was trying to see how slow auction works here but couldn’t find it. I did a slow NFBC draft in early March and enjoyed it. I am thinking of doing another because $50 bucks to kill time for 2-3 weeks may be worth it. Point it: I am
Interested but okay as-is.
-
In terms of draft date/timing, Pandman we can revisit as the planned time approaches. To Sonic's point, I think it's worth considering his point about giving ourselves a way to fill the time by doing an auction sooner rather than waiting. I suppose one option to consider would be a slow auction, which I do in another (non-Ottoneu) league I'm in. If folks are interested in an alternative approach I could throw together a suggestion, but I don't feel strongly either way. What do you think?

If you read FanGraphs but didn’t check today, please check out their post today - they need help to continue, please consider a membership if you don’t already have one: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-fangraphs-update-were-asking-for-your-help/

If that’s the day we end of drafting can we push the start time back? I’m working in the hospital that weekend/week and am on the west coast, starting 5 PM or later Pacific time would be better

I'm going to be in the minority here but I wouldn't mind having the draft soon so we can do transactions. I recently bought a book about Graph Theory. I'm bored out of my skull.

Moved it to May 3 for now, still 7pm ET. We can continue to adjust as needed.

I'm for pushing back

My vote is to postpone again. Early May seems to make sense.
-
Seems appropriate but will await thoughts from others. I'm inclined to push back to early May for now?
-
Should we postpone again?

Thanks to all for weighing in!
-
It sounds like we have strong support for moving the auction back. For now, I moved it back 2 weeks to April 5. As the MLB plan comes into more clarity, we can decide if we'd like to move it back further!
-
I agree delay the draft. We have done the same in other leagues I participate in.
-
I support postponing the draft as well.
-
I'm fine with rescheduling the draft as well.
-
I’m fine with moving it back if need be.
-
I am fine with moving back. Sunday evenings seem to generally work for everyone.
-
I agree with moving draft back.
-
Hey all, hope everyone is staying healthy and washing their hands! In another league of mine we are considering moving the draft date back because of the suspended season. Any thoughts about if we should do the same?

Who jumps first and makes their cuts?
-
Looking to move Keuchel and Quintana before the deadline today.
-
Amateurs, Titans, Naturals, Pandaman, D'squarius - don't forget you have to renew your team by paying the fee before 1/31.
-
Open to conversations on Guerrero Jr or Sano - would be looking for 2B, OF, or SP.
-
Happy to see the league engaged at such a high level. Can't wait to get the season started!
-
Let's lock in the auction for Sunday, March 22 at 7pm ET.
-
I second Dream's thoughts - so glad to have this group together for the year and looking forward to a bit more activity!
-
Looking to move Harper and or Machado
-
Welcome to the league, both of y’all!
Unrelated, I don’t recall off-seasons 2 or 3 having this many deals. Love it.
-
Hi All. I'm John and I'm excited to join. I live outside NYC, but grew up in CA and am a life-long Angels fan. Looking forward to digging into the roster and playing with y'all. Cheers.

Hi, all. I'm Beau and I live in the Twin Cities. It's cold and we have snow here so this time of year I don't spend too much (any) time golfing or riding bike. This time of year is good for drinking. Thanks for letting me play.

Please let us know if you have any questions and John (new owner), feel free to introduce yourself! As you can see, we also have a new and active owner of the re-named Sonic Economics, so feel free to introduce yourself, too!
