Thanks Bees. Since my success in OPL is really the league’s success, you all should let me draft Trout for $1. ;)
-
Just noticed our Commish got in on the OPL, I missed the boat with another team I wanted to put in. Congrats! Good luck!
-
Thanks everybody for letting me know your availability for the draft. Looks like everybody indicated that they are available on March 26 at 6pm EDT. I set the official draft accordingly. If your availability has changed, let me know. Otherwise, happy draft prep, and I'll see everybody on the 26th.
-
Let me know if you have any questions. Please complete the Doodle by the end of this weekend so we can get something on the books.
-
Hey all, time to get a draft time on the calendar. We're going to proceed as if the season is going to get started on schedule. The goal is to find a time that works for everybody in the league, which is a bit of a task since we have owners in both Asia and Europe. 6pm EST on Friday or Saturday seemed to work decently well in past years. If anybody can't make 6pm work, shoot me a DM. Let me know what dates work for you: https://doodle.com/poll/rpcpc95rh4vtxdmk?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=
-
The 3/1 date that you see when you log on is a placeholder.
-
Hi Gonny, no dates yet. Dukes should have a post in the next few days about selecting a date.
-
Looking forward to the draft! Have we set a date?
-
Let me see your last minute fliers. I'll be holding till the zero hour!
-
Looks like most people are on their way to this, but make sure to make your final cuts by midnight EST tomorrow. Also, if you haven't renewed your team, be sure to pay your $50 to the Ottoneu folks.
-
Hearing no opposition to changing the trade review period to 24 hours, that change takes effect immediately. The league settings have been updated. Also, pay no attention to the draft date. When I updated the settings, it made me choose a date. We'll settle on a draft time after the holidays.
-
Thanks to Spiders for bringing this topic up and to the rest of the league for the thoughts on the trade review window. According to the league charter, as long as eight or more owners agree with a change to league rules, the change is approved. In order to formalize this process a bit, please send me a DM if you oppose changing the trade review period from 48 to 24 hours by 11:59pm US Eastern Time on Friday. If I don't hear from you, I'll assume you approve the rule change.
-
I agree with the tighter trade time. Active managers aren't affected by an extra day and inactive ones won't be bothered.

I agree with Spiders on the 24 Hr trade time
-
I favor 24 hours. Much better in season, and that is what really matters.

Spiders, I don't feel strongly either way. Does anyone oppose? If you do, could you please say why? Just want to be sure both sides are heard.
-
hey everyone, I think now is the time to propose rule changes according to the charter so I wanted to propose something minor: how would people feel about moving the trade processing time down from 48 hours to 24 hours? This does not do much in the offseason but it helps things move faster in the regular season and I think this league is active enough that most trades can be approved within 24 hours.

I'd like to say thank you to all you folks for assigning me the maximum $33 in arbitration. I take it to be the highest of compliments about my roster construction.
-
A big thanks to everyone for assigning arbitration dollars before the deadline. Once arbitration ends on Saturday, you can fire up the hot stove and start making trades.
-
Decided to distract myself from election news to pop in here to check on arbitration. Looks like we're off to a good start, with 2/3rds of the league completing arbitration at this point. I'm not anticipating much owner turnover this year, but let me know if your plans change. Looking forward to the hot stove - I imagine there will be more action in Ottoneu than in real life.
-
If anyone is looking for another team for next year, I have one in a $20 league I commish. Definitely not as competitive as this league, but a good place to try out new strategies. Some really good pieces on the team: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/529/team?team=3962. DM me if interested. Thanks all.

Thanks for posting that link, Gonny. I hadn't seen Justin's power rankings. Impressive that our little ol' league is ranking right up there with the Ottoneu Champions and Dynasty leagues. I had always thought that our league was really competitive - it's nice to have confirmation of that. Hopefully he posts end of year rankings soon!
-
Congrats Meat! Had a blast for my first year in this league, looking forward to the offseason.
-
Congrats to the champs! I also want to thank everyone for making my first year in the league enjoyable. I'm going to count taking an abandoned 12th place team to 5th place (even in a shortened year) a success. Will be hoping to podium next year!
-
Congrats Meat! This was a really competitive Ottoneu League this year, and I wonder where it will rank on the Ottoneu Power Rankings (if Vibber does an EOY ranking like he's done in years past):

Thanks. I had a crazy 2 week period in early September (had a couple of 7-day scores over 1000 points, which I had never done before). Not sure that I would have held up for the full 162 as AM was a strong competitor. Hopefully 2021 will give us a normal schedule.

Good season, all. Congrats to Meat on the impressive late season surge to take the top spot (and land at #26 overall in all of Ottoneu). The Ottoneu offseason will look the same as in the past, with arbitration beginning on October 15. Hopefully we'll be looking at a full 162-game slate next year.
-
Exciting trade deadline in both real and fake baseball. Excited to see what happens down the stretch with the competition for the money spots.
-
Indeed, happy Opening Day! Hopefully it sticks this time. Be sure to get all of your Yankees and Nationals into your lineup before the first pitch tonight - I have a feeling we're all going to need all of the innings and plate appearances we can get. I'm ready to embrace the crazy that this season will likely provide.
-
Good luck everyone! Let's see what kind of weird outlier stuff happens this season!
-
Here’s the games/innings cap info: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/2020-games-and-inning-caps/7582
-
Looks like the max is 560 innings. But how you get there is an open question if starters are only going 3 innings.
-
will there be effectively no innings pitched limit in a shortened season??

Now that there's an agreement in place to play baseball this year, it's time to get the Ottoneu machine fired up again. I don't think we have any pressing decisions to make at the moment, as there are no major changes to Ottoneu mechanics. I'm assuming that everybody is committed to this league for the shortened season, but please let me know if that isn't the case for you. In the meantime, study up on the changes to the Ottoneu calendar and the changes MLB has implemented for the season.

Hey all, just popping in to see what was happening on the message boards and mourn the lack of baseball. Two things I'd like to plant in your heads: 1) If you have some spare change lying around and don't already have a Fangraphs membership, I'd encourage you to sign up. More info here: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/an-update-on-the-state-of-fangraphs/ 2) Niv posted an update on the message boards re: the current Ottoneu season: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/coronavirus-update-pt-2/7315

Dukes and I were supposed to be at spring training this weekend. I hope they refund the tickets.

I did a bit more research on switching from a 48 to 24 hour review period for trades. In the Ottoneu system, Changes to the review period can only be made when trades are not allowed (i.e. I can't change it right now). If we do vote to change the trade review period, it will not take effect until after the upcoming regular season.
-
I’m would say yes to the 24 hour trade clock as well
-
I like the 24 hour clock better myself and am in an active league that does it. But, I don't have a strong opinion on changing it.
-
My only concern with dropping the time to 24 hours is that not everybody logs in every day. In my view, completing trades one day sooner is not worth the price reducing the time that people have to review trades. That said, if people strongly favor reducing the review period to 24 hours, we can do that. As per the league bylaws, rule changes that at least eight owners approve of will be enacted.
-
I would be in favor of 24 hours as well.

Yeah! Looking forward to the year. I'm not sure if this is the best time to bring this up, but have we considered a 24-hour review period for trades? Currently it's 48 hours, and that feels long.
-
Thanks to everybody for a smooth and efficient draft. I didn't think completing the draft in under two hours was possible, but we did it with some time to spare. Looking forward to a great season.
