I wouldn’t mind starting the clock a bit earlier in the day as Commish suggested, but my opinion probably matters little since I’m in US Central time zone, so changes in the schedule have little effect on my day-to-day. I’ll defer to managers in Europe on this one.
For what it’s worth, I think the draft will start to speed up a bit. Everyone’s trying to get their top picks and willing to keep bidding to do so. Once those players are off the board the stakes lower considerably

I agree with sticking to 24 max nominations for now, at least. There’s been a lot of action on the board which is good. We could start the timers earlier (7am ET/4am PT) if west coasters are good with it. Any player receiving a new high bid overnight would still run to at least 12pm PT before being won, so should still prevent any player from running a whole clock while folks are sleeping. We can’t go later for now due to already ending daily timers at 3am European time.
-
I’m liking the format as well but don’t think I could keep up with more nominations at this point. This is already a lot!

I'm really liking the format. I know I said something on the other page, but just to get my vote out there: I think we should be able to nominate 3-4 at a time. I'd probably shorten the time for when a bid is increased too. But I'm on the west coast and have been able to look at it often.
-
Hi all, as we're heading into the weekend it seems everyone has the hang of the platform and has been checking in each day. I'm reducing the initial nomination times to 12 hours so they don't all take two nights. I'm keeping the hours at 9-9 for now because it seems like the 12 hour pause works best to give everyone a chance at sleep while clocks are stopped but we can adjust that, too, if everyone wants to extend the active hours.
-
Did not know that! Thank you
-
Good to know- thanks!

One way to expedite the draft is for managers to use the "Pass" button for any players that they're no longer interested in bidding on. If 11 managers Pass on a player, the clock automatically goes to zero and the player is awarded to the highest bidder.
-
That's right, and if you make a new high bid on a player with 11 hours remaining then there are still 11 hours remaining.
-
Ah ok. So if I make a new high bid on someone today that only has 2 hours remaining the clock resets to 8 hours?
Donkey Hotè on

Initial nominations are for 12 hours, and new high bids reset the clock to 8 hours if the remaining time was less than that. If a new bid doesn't surpass the previous bid, it doesn't reset the clock at all. These long times are to ensure folks in Europe and California both have a chance to see new high bids for all players - if they're ok with us running the clocks longer each day we can increase it or shrink the initial nomination times or both. Players should start being won today, though!
-
remind me why some of the bids reset to 8 hours and some to more than 12 hours?

you bid $22 on Snell, but another team has a max bid on him that is $23 or greater. So, your bid increased the price without you taking the lead

I think it means other teams have preset higher bids. So you haven't reached their max bid yet.
The other side of that is, like if I've bid 20 on a player and the second highest bid is 15, it has me paying only 16.
-
when you bid and the background of a player turns yellow, the bid did not exceed the high bid, so you won't see your name. Right now you lead on Max at $37, and maybe you have a max bid set of - say - $40. If I plus $1, the price displayed goes to $38 with you winning still

When I increase a bid on some guys it doesn’t have my name next to them, so It’s not clear I’m the high bid, and I end up bidding against myself. Any idea why?
-
Today’s the day! I’ll start the draft at 9am and then each team will have two nominations to start player auctions. We can run 24 auctions at a time with simultaneous bidding, and you can place hidden max bids to make it easier to close the tab for a few hours. When a player is won, whoever nominated them for auction gets their nomination back and can submit a new player. The draft ends when no more players have been nominated. Let me know here or in the draft chat if there are any questions!
-
Is the expectation that every team nominates 2 players per day? Just making sure that I understand the format
-
Hi all - apologies for being delinquent. I have signed up for the draft. The slow speed should create a Titanic like effect.
-
Actually, thinking about what I've just written, I'm going to set initial timers to 14 hours so that no player can be won same day - that way even if Pudge or West Coast US folks can't check in mid-day there's the 12 hours overnight to see new prices and submit bids that will be active when the timer resumes. It will feel very slow for the first few days, but I think that will be fairest as we get settled into the slow draft format.
-
The long timers and long nightly break mean this will take a while, but we're getting a very early start by kicking off tomorrow. No player can be won by a new bid in less than 8 hours of timer, so that should hopefully give everyone a window of active clock during normal awake hours to check on every player's high bid before they're won.
-
I sent a reminder to Seismic and will load the last two teams' keepers soon. For the draft, given time zones there will be time at the beginning and end of each day where some managers are sleeping, so I'll change new high bids to reset clocks to 8 hours, which will be crucial to everyone getting equal opportunity to see or make new high bids before players are won. I'll set a 'nightly' timer break from 9pm ET - 9am ET. That's a stop of 3am CET and a start of 6am PST.
-
Seismic werthquake I think is who hasn't signed up. He was last on the site yesterday, the 26th, so that's a good sign. But yeah, I thought we were starting on the first.
The no keepers guy, I'm sure the Commish will update.

Does the draft start tomorrow on couch managers? One team is missing and one team has zero keepers?

Welcome to the league sl8er!
Draft starts in two days?! Looks like 2 teams still need to need to sign up on the draft site.
Commish, thanks again for setting it up!
-
Hi everyone! I just took over Sl8ter Boi and am excited for the season. To the last post my time zone is Los Angeles PST (GMT -8) for the draft. Beyond that it looks like I am working on a bit of rebuild, but have some interesting pieces for teams who may be in a different position. Feel free to reach out with trades or whatever!
-
Also, for the draft, remind me of your time zone if you're not based in the US. I plan on setting timers for 12 hours per player with a reset to 6 hours for new high bids to give everyone ample opportunity to place their bids on each player, but want to plan a clock stoppage each day to minimize any 6 hour clocks running out while folks are unavailable/sleeping.
-
Thanks to all joining the couch managers draft - just four more teams to join before we start March 1. I've uploaded your keepers in but do give them a quick look over - every now and then it throws up an error that a player couldn't be found and I am adding those manually but worried I'll miss one.
-
I did that. It's just not populating. I'll continue to mess with it. Will try on laptop tonight. Thanks!

You can change your team name. Click on your team name in the menu. Then go all the way to the right and click Team Settings. You can change the name there.

Soooo... I think I joined the league, then changed my team name... So it's listing my team name as my log-in name and I don't think I can change it. I apologize. Maybe if you delete me I can rejoin with name?
-
Oh, and once you join the draft, there's an Edit Team Name button under the Auction Settings that you can use to update your draft name to match your ottoneu team name to ensure I import the correct keepers to the correct teams. Thanks!
-
Hi Everyone, we've got a full league again! Welcome to our two new managers. I've set up a slow draft on Couch Managers at the url below. Please ensure you have an account on the site (it's free) and then go to this link to join our league's draft. The password is world. We'll get started on March 1, but the sooner everyone joins the earlier I can import all our keepers. https://www.couchmanagers.com/auctions/?auction_id=446
-
Awesome! Thanks again
-
How about March 1? We can start with a lower number of simultaneous nominations to get a feel and then increase if we want to speed it up. I'll create the draft this week and try to recruit managers to fill the two teams that just expired. In the meantime if you create a couchmanagers account you'll be ready to join the league draft when it's up. Fangraphs just posted a slow draft article, too: https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/thinking-about-auctions-fast-and-slow-logistics-and-details/

Earlier is fine for me. Gives us time to adjust if needed since we haven’t done this before
-
I wouldn’t mind starting a little earlier either, but I know we’ve got some teams to fill so either way works for me

I also prefer to start earlier, say one week earlier. Mainly because it's new for most of us.

Is there any interest in starting it earlier? I know it increases injury risk for everyone, but I'm down if Commish and everyone is.

Thanks for putting all that together!

Not yet, though they were both online a week before the cut deadline so I'm hopeful they just have something going on IRL. Ottoneu will auto-abandon the two teams if they aren't renewed by this week, so that may well be our answer. Albhaino is a league founder and Sl8er just joined this off-season so fingers crossed.

We’re you able to get a hold of the teams that didn’t cut?

The consensus seems to be for a slow draft, which I can set up. Based on past experience, a new league can complete a slow draft in 2 weeks and we have considerably fewer players to auction. Unless anyone feels otherwise, I'll set this up to begin Monday, March 13, which would give us 16 days to complete before Opening Day. Each team nominates up to 2 players at a time, timers of 8 hours for initial auction and bump up to 4 hours for any new winning bids, with daily pauses of 12 hours for sleep.
-
I have never done a slow auction draft, but let's try it.
