Everyone completed arb and the next major deadline is the keeper/cut deadline on January 31. We'll figure out our draft time sometime in the next few months (the date will likely be in Feb per usual). Happy trade season.

Arbitration is currently open and runs through Nov. 14. It looks like more than half of the league has already completed their allocations, so if you haven't done so, don't forget!

Great season, everyone, and what a wild final two week stretch run, Empire!
-
A big congrats to Lou Brown on his title, it was quite a finish to the season! Congrats to Dyer Jays for their first top-3 finish as well. Additionally, four new league records were set this year: triples (Dyer), stolen bases (Rigby), BB allowed (LT), and HR allowed (Jobu). First offseason date is arbitration, beginning on October 15. Hope everyone plans to return next year!

Sooooo, it looks like I'm snake bitten with pitchers to start the year. Anyone have any requests for pitchers they would like to see go get injured for actual baseball purposes (division rivals etc.)? I'm sure I could help your favorite team out and manage to get someone else on the IL.

Anyone have a pitcher they wish to end up on the IL? My guys are dropping like flies before the season even begins!

I don't care either way if a rule is in place or not. I agree with Heirwagner about Ottoneu already freezing/penalizing a manager who is over.

I think the roster issue is really only valid during the season. A perfect storm would have to occur for anyone to be purposely over the limit by a player. During the season if a team isn't legal within 48 hours I think Empire's solution makes sense. If the manager has a special circumstance due to outside forces, I feel like we are all understanding and would have no issue if Empire would have to do some roster manipulations.

I'd vote no to a new rule. It seems superfluous with the penalties Ottoneu already has in place while burdening the commissioner with even more seemingly unnecessary oversight responsibilities.

Ha, it is funny that a small rule thing has generated more debate than we’ve had in years. Give what everyone has said, is there any objection to this new rule: during the offseason a team has 5 days to get legal before a penalty. During the season, a team has 3 days to get legal before a penalty. The penalty will be that the commissioner will cut the last player the team acquired that put them over 40 players on the roster.

I agree with the general sentiment from seemingly the majority of the league. An additional rule appears unnecessary when Ottoneu prohibits noncompliant teams from adding additional players, setting lineups and trading. The 40-man roster restriction and opportunity cost of adding injured players prior to their 60-IL designation at the expense of conducting other business occurs to me to be a valid choice one can make until prevented by the rules of the system; the wisdom of such notwithstanding.
-
I only brought this up to get some sort of precedence. I’m a stickler for rules and if 1 over the limit is ok, what’s to say a team couldn’t add 7 over the limit?

I definitely think moving forward we should go by that rule. If a guy is not on the 60 day list yet you can't pick up somebody else. But I don't think this warrants any type of penalty. As we have not really monitored this type of thing before.

I think we just leave it to the commissioner to determine whether the actions warrant a penalty. I think if there is a complaint by another team, commissioner reviews and if unfair, asks offender to correct the actions. If offender doesn’t correct, commissioner has authority to impose necessary penalties believed to correct unfairness and disincentivize future activity.
I dont think penalty should be drastic, and commissioner always has ability to call a vote or discussion on
-
I'm fine with whatever the group decides. Last year when Brendan Rodgers hurt his shoulder in ST, I picked up another 2B and my lineup was technically illegal for almost a week I believe before Rodgers was put on IL. Very similar situation and at no point did I think I was gaming the system or doing anything wrong. I don't think enforcing lineup legality is necessary before the season starts but I'll be more than happy to comply.

I wasn't trying to game the system. I know DeGrom and maybe Senga will go on the IL to start the year. I thought it wasn't a big deal being 1 player over during spring training while we are all in a holding pattern until the season starts. Urias was my first cut candidate in pretty much any situation; made even easier with the injury and coming into camp out of shape. Sorry for causing an issue.

It’s a tricky situation, Senga will go on the 60 Day IL, so on one hand I understand him having the extra player on the roster. However, I have Jeffrey Springs who also will almost assuredly go on the 60 Day IL, but I am not adding a player until he is, as that is the way the rule is currently written. I’d say give Rigby a 24 hour window to cut a guy. it seems like a fair solution to what could simply just be a mistake. I don’t think we get alerted if we’re over the limit this time of year?
-
I’m not sure I fully understand when it’s illegal and legal. I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong but some sort of clarification would be helpful to avoid wrongdoing
-
I've messaged LT and Rigby but want to open the discussion to the league. If there is league-wide support for a rule change, please sound off on the message board. The relevant rule is "At no time shall a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league's commissioner." I'm fine with instituting a rule if most league members want one, but don't want to do so unilaterally.

Just got my February schedule. The 3rd-4th, 10-11th, 17th and 25th will work well for me. If the 18th was most preferable for the league I could likely make that work too, but would be unable on the 24th.
-
The only full weekend I’m not on call is the 17-18th. I can be free either the morning or evening pacific time on the 24th. Other than that I’m on call for work so I may or may not be available. Sorry if I’m the problem 2 drafts in a row.

11th is Super Bowl Sunday. I could do 10th.

10th or 11th would be best for me. I could do the 24th during the day as well but probably not evening. I could also do Sun. the 25th

Weekend of the 10/11th would also be good for me

Feb 4th and 24th are not looking good for me. Later in the evening on the 24th would be better if we have to do that day. Everything else looks clear for me at this time.

The hotstove has moved to the end of January, GMs don't want to hand out contracts until right before spring training. I wish there was a transaction period, the lockout year was nice having all of those deals happen around the same time.
