Crazy Rich, you might want to start shopping more. My offer was at least that good, if you counter, maybe i give more. You are selling yourself short
-
@NL fyi, i just completed a 3 peat in my 5x5 league so i think i know how to manage a team and the salary cap.
-
One more education for the new people. When you trade $20 Player X and the cash to pay his $20 salary, its free for the acquiring team, PLUS if the manager subsequently cuts that Player X because the risky player fell though or got injured , then they get at least half that cash back from the cut and maybe the whole amount if they are claimed. Cap space is extremely valuable, and cash with trades to increase that cap is even more valuable.
-
only 5 vetoes...oh well
-
i repeat...Does anyone want to buy my team?

I didn't realize you have previous experience in Ottoneu. In my previous experiences, usually the contending teams do indeed end up with close to $500 payrolls, so if my payroll is really the issue, I guess the issue is that I started adding cash early this year? I thought it was a good strategy, before all the cash dried up. I certainly did not intend for it to offend anyone the way it seems to have. You are welcome to combat this strategy by 1. Making better offers than I do to other teams or

@champagne, appreciate your insight on how laidback and smart the league managers are. NL might have a $500 payroll by mid April and is attempting a 3-peat. NL is an obviously good manager with very aggressive style. The rest of the league might be laidback.
-
My point is made, but I will continue to speak up. Fantasy baseball is something I participate in, not a spectator sport. I didn't call for a veto on either deal, nor have i solicited to the other managers to try to get them to veto. I am curious if this one will get vetoed, but if it does, that would be an Ottoneu first for me in 4 years
-
@Champagne I appreciate the advice and insight on working in this league. Yea obviously I value the guys I am getting, and think it can pan out for me in the end. Time will tell on all accounts!

... The take away for you might be: even though you really wanted those four players, you have the ability to Reject, Counter, or simply wait until you have more information. In this case, I would gather information by proposing Paxton & Loan (~$15) for 4x Player deals to at least three other teams... If everyone Rejects, you prolly have enough information to Accept.
-
Hey @ Crazy, my first year in the league -- I finished dead last. The next year was better, and the next, and last year I was close to placing. This league is not inhospitable for growth and @NL doesn't have complete dominance because of this, or any other trade. His team ( and no offense @NL ) has flaws and tons of risk this year. That is his team's strategy. Prolly not a bad one considering the very high salaries still on the books. Contin...

Sorry @Judge, I don't share your "principle" opinion here. As @NL notes, this is an easy going league. Certainly not one where even the most lopsided trades warrant accusatory remarks, believe it or not. Your stance that "ANYONE in this league who continues to let these deals happen, deserves to get beat by the shark" is pretty indigent and unappreciated.
-
This has never happened before in any of my Ottoneu leagues, but it looks like every owner has the ability to "Approve" or "veto" a trade. So everyone can vote and we can take it from there. But I have been in other leagues like this and this is opening a Pandora's box. Owner's will begin to veto every trade that helps the team above them, it leads to quite a bit of league dysfunction.

I honestly don't know what you want me to do at this point: Not make trades? Not allow the new guy to make trades? You want me to void all my trades? Just let me know and I will consider it because I just want to have fun doing this and it seems like I wasted my night over something silly and you got really upset, neither of which were my goal, so I would like to de-escalate this and move forward.

And if you want me to give you a value for the extra cap room I have? I guess I will have the ability to add $35 worth of more players? I don't even know what that means. I feel patronizing to point out that all the "good" players have been rostered by this point. I can probably pick up 35 $1 players? or 7 $5 players, best case scenario? or something in between?

Maybe I don't get your point, but from what I am gathering now is that the $35 I have received in the two trades plus Paxton and Odor somehow gives me some huge insurmountable advantage that you will not be able to recover from over the next 6 months? And to be clear, Paxton is someone in your eyes should not even be traded for. And since I have created this huge advantage I should void these trades, based on the premise I am trying too hard to win?

-
You are really ignoring the point, i don't care about any of the players in those two deals. Tell me and the rest of the league the value of the extra cap room that you get to use for 6 months....
-
I spent a lot of offseason working on my team. You making these trades is bad for the league as a whole. I don't appreciate that you waste the time I invested by allowing such trades that hurt the league. You as the commissioner should be stepping up and helping newer player rather than fleecing the cash from them.
-
Alright, you made your points, I've made mine. I am pretty pumped about the season starting. I am always up for trade negotiations, debates about trades, good natured trash talk, baseball talk in general, but it is getting late. Have a good evening.

And just a tip: You seem much more concerned about winning trades, when you should probably be more concerned about winning leagues. Also, this was a pretty chill league until you entered this year. Clearly you are upset, but I also recommend cooling down the aggressive tone a bit, I don't think it fits the style of what most of see as a recreational hobby. I also imagine this wasn't the warmest welcome to a new owner taking over a team in a difficult situation.

I have played 5x5 for 20 years.
-
Trading Paxton plus $25 for 4 bench players is rebuilding for the guy getting nothing? I mean, no comment if he got a top prospect.
-
Alrighty then, glad we cleared that up. I got the best player in the deal that you wouldn't even CONSIDER trading for yourself. He sounds like a great steal. I'm not saying anyone got a "great deal". You know why? 1. It is too early to tell 2. Clearly the owners that agreed to the deal thought the deal was good for THEM...regardless of what YOU think of them.

WTH? its spring training...what a ridiculous comment. I have plenty of experience, maybe thats the problem. I am confronting the fact you are a shark and you don't like it.
-
ANYONE in this league who continues to let these deals happen, deserves to get beat by the shark. Anyone else want to stand up to the shark? looks like a few of you maybe agreed with my comments.
-
Not sure of your experience in this format, so I don't want to be insulting, but you do know that over priced veterans get traded for cash by rebuilding teams with extra cash all the time? Often covering the cost of the veterans salary? Right? I didn't invent this...

just stop, I would not trade for Paxton, not a fan. Its the principle here. I can tell you are in for a long year, cuz I will keep hammering if you keep spouting your mouth about what great deals these are for the other team, while you take the best player in the deal AND the cash to pay them.
-
I get the feeling you will only be satisfied if I don't make trades. I get your strategy of trying to scare others away from trading with me, but 1. Its not cool 2. You sort of make this not that fun. The fun part about ottoneu is that there are many different strategies to building LONG TERM success. This $25 vanishes in 6 months, meanwhile Crazy will have 4 great valued assets which will retain great value for years to come. Paxton's arm could fall off next month. I welcome your offer for Pax.
