I agree, let’s play the game and have fun.
-
We're all here to enjoy playing a game, and it's a collaborative effort to make sure that we're all having fun. Can we please cut the interpersonal snark and dismissive sarcasm?
-
Yeah, let’s wait around because a pitcher might get squeezed on a strike call once every 3 innings by a robot umpire. Can’t miss out on the bonus $2 in value Dominic Smith might get with extra universal DH at bats. Some of the reasons for not drafting are comedy gold. Again, let’s begin to play the ‘fantasy’ baseball game we signed up for at some point soon please.
-
I am fine with drafting in may, but I would wait at least until we know i) the location games are played (whether games are played in their home parks or in Arizona/Florida) and ii)potential rule changes (robot umpire, DH in NL) as I feel that would have a drastic impact on the value of certain players. Anyway, I am fine either way.
-
I think it is sort of silly as well, BUT my thought process to drafting in may is...(1) I expect mlb to rush into something sort of dumb, I dont want us to get caught with our pants down, and (2) im guessing it will be easiest to get us to 100% participation by doing it in may
-
It’s a fantasy baseball league. Holding a draft is our version of beginning baseball activities. Trying to avoid regrettable decisions is part of the fun in playing.
-
I don't understand the desire to draft before baseball activities begin. It is just going to lead to regrettable decisions. That said, I'd consent to it IF the draft is able to have 100% attendance. There is no reason to rush forward and leave a team or two out if they can't draft at a particular time when there is no natural deadline. 100% attendance or we push it back further until we can get 100% attendance.
-
Just give me 24 hours notice and try to hold it after 7 or 8pm EST and I’ll be good to go.
-
With NHL and NBA camps opening in the next month and a half I could see a season start by mid-July. I agree to a mid to late May draft and I am also open to drafting sooner IF MLB plans on starting by the beginning of July.
-
Hi all, checking back in. My general vibe over the past 72 hours, is that regardless of it makes any sense, and throwing a lot of caution to the wind, they're going to try to jam a season in starting in the july/august time frame. With that in mind I think it could be beneficial to start to schedule a draft, targeting for mid/late may. My general feel is this is a good compromise between the "draft now" folks and "wait it out" folks. Open to discuss further.
-
I basically agree with you. I'm not optimistic for a season this year.
-
Since i’m the rookie, I will leave it up to the majority of the group, to ultimately decide draft day. However, I will give a suggestion, that we should at least wait until they have started baseball activities again. Call me a pessimist, But I think MLB is delusional if they think baseball will happen in 2020. Sadly, I’m just not seeing how it’s possible without a vaccine. Sorry, but this isn’t going away because it’s time to play baseball. It sucks, and I hope I’m proven wrong.

Been reading about the MLB potential plans to startup in May (but more likely June), beginning the season playing all games in Arizona. Some interesting ideas floating around in the potential plans, robotic strike zones, extended rosters and 7 inning double headers to get the game count to 162. Looks like multiple "How different would baseball be ..." scenarios. I'm fine with the 1st week May draft date and I am still cautiously optimistic.

Judging from what people have posted I think the official move is going to be: wait out another week and a half, then start trying to schedule, with a target for about the first week in may. I know people want to do sooner, and some later, but this strikes a good balance with what I'm guessing is games starting in....augustish? maybe?
-
Considering this is not a league for just this year I do not see a problem in drafting when there might not be a season. I think we should wait until May 1st, but on that day we need to pin down an official day for the draft. I know some of you are anxious and any amount of baseball thinking is better than non, but we need to consider both sides for the people who don’t feel inclined to think about baseball when there might not be any soon. We will know what day we will be drafting by May 1st.
-
Personally, I don't see any point in drafting when we don't even know there will be a season, and drafting when there is nothing happening takes a the funout of drafting for me. No offense, but l think that drafting at any point before "spring training" re-opens is a waste of a draft. I fi d it really hard to care about baseball right now, and having a draft would just throw the lack of anything good in life right now into starker relief. It would be a sad chore instead of something ce

I second that emotion.

My gut says we should have a draft soon to take advantage of the ‘fantasy’ aspect of this game. Waiting around for 6 weeks because Joey Votto might be worth $2 less if they play 80 games instead of 120 makes no sense at all to me. Everything sucks as everyone knows. This game can act as a diversion for a few minutes a day, instead of yet another thing we’re not able to partake in at this point in history. Drafting, trades, etc >>> delaying fun because everything sucks
-
I'm open to suggestions. My gut says maybe draft more towards the end of april/beginning of may?
-
Can I be the bad guy again and suggest that we actually have a draft so we can start playing in this $20 fantasy league that is obviously inconsequential, but may help some of us pass some time?
-
Yeah I think we need to wait at least another month to be honest. At the very least I know I need a little bit longer notice to clear my schedule than a few days.
-
That makes no sense at all to me.
-
Draft on for Sunday? I’m aware everything sucks right now. Draft will act as a couple hour diversion as will the trade talk that will follow.
-
Everyone know how to check for trade offers in their messages?
-
Open for business! Looking to add depth.
-
Well I guess feel free to trade on, submit any agreements to me and I can process them pending any vetos or whatever
-
Ok im not going to bother with a poll, anyone who doesnt want to allow trades has 24 hours to speak up, otherwise we wheel and deal
-
I'm definitely up for trades, but not cuts. I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I would welcome the distraction.
-
I'd be cool with opening up trades.
-
Officially I don't think we can. That being said if there is serious interest, we could do it unofficially if you ran moves through me or Kalle and we input them manually. It would have to be a whole league decision. I'd almost be more inclined to say keep it to trades exclusively.
-
Is there any way we could open trades/cuts to give us some Baseball content to think about?
-
Anyone interested in taking over a 2 time defending champ ottoneu football team? It features McCaffrey, Michael Thomas, Kamara, among others. Pretty much same deal as baseball, $20 for season, competitive league. Can keep busy with arbitration this weekend. Message me if interested. ...thanks
-
I'm glad you put it to a vote so the people's voice could be heard. I believe in democracy and support the league; however, this is disappointing. It's really hard to get free evenings (I'm an accountant in the "dog days" of tax season with two small children at home). But enough of my pitty party. Looking forward to drafting when that time comes.
-
Lame.
-
As a trained microbiologist my guess is that this will not be the only delay, I guess more will come. So it makes sense to wait to see what will be a realistic start of the season, as this will also impact the value of players.
-
Ok that's a majority including both commissioners. We are canceled
-
I vote for delaying the draft.

Trying to wait for more votes...

we are sitting at 3 tonights, vs 5 delays and 1 indifferent, please get votes in asap but we are trending one way for sure
-
heyman just posted that opening day will be delayed "by minimum of two weeks"
-
I’m picking friends up from the airport tonight and can’t draft tonight due to that. Therefore, I am in favor of postponing until we get more info about when the regular season will start
-
I’m also fine either way. My preference is to defer, but I’m okay drafting tonight if that is the consensus.

I checked off both, it really makes no difference to me, but need to know by 5 since I have a bit of a drive to meet up with some people. Thanks everyone!

I think it would be better to postpone, but I'm not feeling super strongly about it.
-
I marked both as "yes if need be" and I will defer to the group consensus. My evening schedule might be more volatile with work in the coming weeks, But I should be able to accommodate the draft.

Draft as scheduled is my vote. Drafting tonight > watching twitter or the news. Also, will set up some sweet trade talks after the draft while we wait for the season to start.
-
I will add that if we still wanna do it tonight I won't fight it. I just think it could go better if we wait.

in the ottoneu message boards Niv said he'd extend available draft dates depending on the new MLB start date when its announced. Im fine postponing, but then we risk even more people having conflicts. I'll postpone the draft, but I need to hear from more people ASAP. Doodle poll incoming.
