i dont think anyone needs you to protect the league pro actively on player acquisition. you might not be aware, but your commissioner tools allow you to cut players if needed during situations where hoarding is involved. unfortunately for the rest of the league, and at least 5 owners that have mentioned being upset with your antics, we can't do anything when the commissioner is the one hoarding

Elephantes has not broken any rules, not over the roster requirements, and doesn't need to announce any players to cut at this time. Nor do I. You, however, are over the roster limit requirements, and you are being told by this league to make your cuts. If you choose to not follow this request, I would like to formally ask you to step away from the Commish duties in this league. I would like to know if any other owners feel this way as well and if any other owners would request this also.

Any owner can low bid at any time they would like. It's an owners choice of the amount they value or choose to bid. Another owner can always bid more for a player if they like and then it would be no low bid. There's actually no such thing as a low bid. The value is determined by the outcome of the auction. Surely this can't be this complicated to you. You don't get to dictate how this works. Many league members have requested that you make your cuts. Your option is to do it now.

Once again Torpedoes, you make absolutely no sense. What in the hell are you talking about? You have 56 of 42 allowed players on your team. You need to cut 14 players to get to your allowed 42 players(2 over due to 60 Day DL). Actually, you, Harpers, and Killer Bees all need to make cuts. Low bids has no relevance at all to your cuts that are needed to follow the rules in place. If the low bids caused the rosters to be over the allowed limit, then low bid players would need to be cut.

You are being accused because you are keeping the players.
So let me get this straight. You will cut the players you picked up if you can punish Elefantes and master batters?
If that is the case, holy crap, torpedos, just cut the damn players so we can move on.

In fact, as a show of good faith, since Master Batters also made several low-ball bids on the final day auctions, no doubt to warehouse players as I am now accused, I will cut a player to match any cuts either Elephantes or MB would like to make. Just announce who you guys would like to drop and I will see that it gets done. But enough with the two faced accusations.
-
Master Batters, you are spreading fake news. All I am trying to do is make this a great league in which everyone is driven to compete every day with the highest level of integrity. Unfortunately, I can only do so much. I am still waiting for Elephantes to announce which players they would like to cut in accordance with the low-ball bids placed on the ridiculously high number of final-day auctions they started. As I said, I will gladly remove a like number of players to match.
-
And I do not accept that this league has to lose owners or I just leave myself because the Commish wants to pull against the league. Do your duty as Commish or you can always step down if you don't want to accept the duties that is expected as Commish.

Perhaps you should consider dropping down to owner if you are unwilling to follow and enforce rules set forth. Especially, with your own team. I like that your competitive and have no issues with you presenting ideas. Just, I personally expect the Commish to keep rules enforced even if it is not your personal preference. I'm tired of the drama.

Torpedoes- It really would be great if you would take on the duties expected of a Commish and follow the rules that ARE currently and clearly set forth in this league. You always choose to be controversial, argue, and debate instead. I'm getting exhausted with having a leader of the league that doesn't follow the rules. There are numerous owners that have requested that you cut your roster and follow the rules. You have failed to comply.

In fact, I got lambasted last season for supposed "dumping". My ability to compete and win this season was directly influenced by my decision to make the trades that I did. That's why we are in a DYNASTY league. If you don't like those types of deals, stick to redraft leagues.
-
As for the rest of what you brought up, that's all opinion based. We don't have the ability to cut players once the season ends and have to wait until arbitration, even then, as someone pointed out there is no salary cap until the keeper deadline. There is a veto system in place, regardless of your personal thoughts on it's effectiveness. Most people have made it pretty clear that tanking is a legitimate strategy and they can run their team however they see fit.
-
I'm not sure what all that has to do with the issue in question. If you did it to protect the league, then you should be applauded. However, you should also cut them. If you don't, then you should be called out. If you did it to keep the players for yourself, then just own up to it and say "it's not illegal, and I can do what I want." But you can't claim to be protecting the integrity of the league and then NOT drop the players in question. That's called hypocrisy.
-
excessive. By the way here is the offseason rule for roster and salary cap.
c. Owners must always be able to field a 40 man roster for $400; therefore following the keeper deadline, a team salary must never exceed $360 + the number of players on the roster. However, there is no salary cap from the end of the MLB season until the keeper deadline.

Commish you are so full of crap. Did you see this as your way to try and bring back talking about getting "your rules" put in place. Putting in bids of $30 isn't accidentally picking up players. If you did it to keep the integrity of the league then fine, cut those SAME players and we are all good. You did your job as commish. Why do I have a feeling that isn't happening. With that said what was done is not necessarily against the rules, but having that many players over 40 is pr

Essential to the game, it was also fun. I also inherited a team that was very poorly constructed. No pitchers, absolutely no closers. I wasn't going to risk another year being mediocre without taking a chance. Besides even with teams doing so, we had a hell of competition to end the year. Plus, FYI I still started players and still tried to pull out the wins category with my pitchers, to screw up the top. I have some other ideas, but I'll post again tomorrow. It's late here.
-
I agree with everything you're saying except for the sacrificing talent for prospects on a dead season. I believe it's essential to maintaining a competitive balance. It's happens in real life and this game is essentially trying its best to simulate the actual game. For instance, I made an announcement when I was pulling the plug and gave every team an opportunity to take some of my top tier players. It's up to the contenders or fringe teams to offer the best packages. Not only is essentia...
-
In the meantime, as a goodwill gesture I will gladly sort through all these players and begin paring down my roster immediately. In order to ensure that everyone is competing with integrity, however, it seems to make sense that Elephantes should cut all of the players he intended to get rid of when he started final-day auctions with lowball bids for 15 players. For every player Elephantes cuts I will gladly match it with one of the players I inadvertently acquired.
-
Now, if we want to discuss how to best raise the integrity of competing in this league, I am all for it and would love to have every member of $100 OLD SCHOOL HARDBALL contribute in constructing our own league-specific structure that encourages year-round integrity of competition. It really makes for a much more fun and challenging game than the current give-up-and-dump environment.
-
Yet when I proposed addressing this last offseason with incentives to keep all teams competing honestly, even as they look to the future, I was essentially shouted down with assertions that (paraphrasing) “we should be able to do whatever we can get away with under the Ottoneu structure until/unless it is mandated by Ottoneu.” Accordingly, in this instance my lineup was effectively frozen by Ottoneu on the final day, as well as the “bonus” game 163 day, just as the Ottoneu mechanism dict
-
Finally, there is no greater threat to the integrity of the competition than when teams give up on the current season and engage in dump trades, giving away expensive talent accompanied by substantial “loans” in exchange for “future hope” in the form of prospects. With no mechanism for regulating this activity, the balance of power may hang on the whims of a tanking owner up until the ridiculously late August 31 trade deadline, creating an environment ripe for corruption and collusion.
-
As Bumpkins pointed out, the rules state “At NO time should a team willingly go over roster and salary cap limits. If a team knowingly does this, they will face penalties at the discretion of their league’s commissioner.” Even with 14 more players than eligible spots, I rank only a distant third in exceeding the salary cap. Should we mandate that every team immediately make cuts to get below the $400 salary cap before arbitration concludes?
-
As it stands, nine other teams will be in violation of the 40-man limit once 60-day DL players are reinstated by MLB. Should all teams be forced to immediately cut players at that time? While we are on the topic of integrity, perhaps we should address the fact that all “loans” expire at the conclusion of the season. We currently have 8 teams over the $400 salary cap following Ottoneu salary increases.
-
I certainly did not intend to end up with this many players. If teams were truly making honest bids for players they thought might help them compete on the final day, I would have been outbid on at least a few of them, or at least wound up paying sky-high prices that would make this a non-issue, but sure enough, it appears the intent was only to stockpile players on the cheap to warehouse for the offseason.
-
When I saw that an absurd number of player auctions had tactically been initiated to expire within hours of the start time of the season’s final games, I felt it was my duty as commissioner to price-enforce by placing appropriate bids that would ensure nobody was loading up their roster for the offseason with a multitude of additional cheap players, however marginal they might be.
-
My apologies for the delay in addressing the final-day auction flurry. There seems to be some confusion and misrepresentation of what took place, so please allow me to break it down. I did not initiate a single final-day auction. In fact, they all appear to have been started by the owner who is curiously complaining about being “cheated out of players at the end of the season.” How could one be “cheated out of players” unless he was attempting to do precisely what I am now accused of?
-
Yeah, after reading all of the rules again, I realized what he did was technically legal. Our commish is the SEC of our league, stretching the rules to the very edge. Lol. If you look at his past, he doesn't trade, so he found a way to stock pile his own players that he can sift through over the offseason. If he feels like he is doing the right thing (which he clearly does) then whatever I will roll with it. BUT make no mistake about it, it is clearly an advantage.

Read from the bottom up...Forgive me for all the typing errors, but I was in a hurry.
-
Now I agree that what the commish did was somewhat gregarious, but it's not technically illegal because the game allows it. I am also not entirely convinced it helps him out. My only argument is that most of us thought it was illegal and therefore did not partake leading to an advantage. So while I don't like it and believe Ottoneu should make restrictions. I would prefer that we has a league prevent this moving forward, but we would have to do it on our own and police ourselves.
-
This is also the statement made by Nivshah within that same thread:
"It’s totally fine if you’ve been grabbing players end of season, but ottoneu Fantasy Baseball would be better off if people couldn’t just spam auctions on the last day of the season. It undermines the market principles of the game."
-
I agree something should be said, especially with arbitration starting today, but we are talking about a grey area in Ottoneu. Their have been thread about this in the past with no clarifications of what could be done. Many arguing for and against. Niv himself is against but it's technically legal. I'll attach the thread here...https://community.ottoneu.com/t/cracking-down-on-illegal-lineups-in-2017/604/57

Hey all, hope you're doing well, just a reminder that Arbitration is coming up. Last season we had several teams that did not participate. If you don't plan on sticking around next season, please make the team available before arbitration ends. It's an important part of Ottoneu to make sure the league holds it's integrity.

I can understand if your busy. No worries. No statement needed really though. Just make your cuts and get roster legal. All will be good.

And the reason it matters is because it allows you to hold onto the rights to extra players that could become more valuable with MLB offseason moves, allows for more trade options during league offseason, and allows for more players that could take on arbitration money on your team and keep salary increases down on your team due to having more options(players).

Would everyone be open to doing our prize pool separately from Ottoneu? Ottoneu takes a $300 cut from our league. We could do the lower tier with no prize money and then do our own prize pool at $100 a piece with awards at $800, $300, and $100...or even $600, $300, $200, and $100. Thoughts?
