Thanks all for completing arb - 100% participation. Happy trading!
-
We are about halfway through the arb period (ends 11/14) and only 4 teams have completed arb. No rush, just a quick reminder to those who have not done it.
-
Oh no, absolutely not. Being commissioner is like being President, you can only do it for so long before someone else has to take office.

Lol, yes the set draft was the best idea I ever stole from another league.
-
Hey Gaegermetrics, that’s good news! Welcome as the new commissioner!
-
I put in my 7 years as commissioner. As PTBNL says, it's pretty easy. And I'm pretty sure we already have a draft date set up, which is the hardest part...

Also, on that note, I will certainly be involved until the new commissioner finds a replacement for my team, and will plan to do arb if that is not going to happen until after November 14.
-
Hi all. Hope you are enjoying playoff baseball so far. After a less than scintillating DS round, the current series are looking like they could be epic, especially Dodgers/Braves. On the Ottoneu front, we are a few days into arbitration (October 15-November 14), so no rush but definitely be thinking about doing arb. As for a replacement commissioner, no bites yet. I will say that this is a really easy league to be the commissioner of (i.e. not much drama), so hopefully someone will step up.
-
Hey hey, JRod next year, maybe Kirby and Hancock. Maybe swap Seagers via free agency. It was fun to have that feeling again though, heh.

Thanks everyone! Another great year, lots of fun to be had. My stupid Mariners broke my heart, but at least this was good news.
-
That's sad news, Player. I was happy to be in a league with a European Commissioner. Living in Germany the draft at European evening time is convenient. I hope the new Commissioner can hold that.
Only the best wishes for you, Player! Cheers, Nippes!
-
Yes, that was quite dominant! Congrats to Lesbos Eunuchs!
-
Looking forward to the future, I am looking to find a new commissioner as playing fantasy baseball from Europe has finally gotten to me and I will be bowing out of most (if not all) of my leagues including this one. The commissioner job in this league is fortunately pretty easy, so message me if you have any interest. Obviously looking to replace myself ASAP so the new commissioner can find a new manager before arb starts. Thanks all.
-
Congrats Eunuchs on a dominating victory.
-
Down to the last few days of the season. Anyone want to share what went right for them or a player they whiffed on (to me, that will always be a $17 Gerrado Parra who hit like .214). For me, Shohei was obviously a huge bright spot but then I got next to nothing from any of my 2B/SS/3B. I thought I could piece it together with a collection of young guys but they all stunk or were hurt but mostly stunk. Whoda thunk Garrett Hampson would again be not good as an everyday player for me?

On the topic of beer exchange….why not! Don’t love the idea of violating commerce laws, but a six-pack across state lines never hurt anyone. Gaeger, Taco, others: anyone interested in some Boulder beer?

It was a privilege to sample that fabulous Texas beer! It was definitely fun trying something new and being able to share what I get to drink with other people in another part of the country. I also would be down for it again.
Thanks Gaegermetrics!

Would like to announce that Taco and I have completed the league's first ever beer swap. Two 6-packs crisscrossed the country, going Austin <--> Duluth in an old milkbone dog treat box. After I make my way through my MN beers, I would be down to try it again.

I still think it's crazy that 2 guys in the HR Derby were the starting battery for the All-Star game.
-
I did not get a chance to watch either. Seemed like it was a good weekend for baseball. Alonso can crush. New players definitely made some noise and brought some positive attention to the game. Seemed like a win for baseball.
I hope everyone is doing well, staying happy, and getting ready for the 2nd half!

What did people think of the home run derby and All Star Game? I think Alonso should be grandfathered in to every HRD until he decides he doesn't want to do it anymore. I'm worried that Shohei burned a lot of energy this weekend and might fade in the 2H. I feel like this year was the change in eras to the new wave of stars like Vlad, FTJ, Soto, etc.

has anyone checked him for foreign substances? He clearly has too much spin on his pitches...also might want to check on his DNA to make sure he is human...he currently has a 1058.8 point lead on second place...and a 2429 point lead on 4th place...that is cra-cra! Nice work Lesbos!

I've been asking around and I've had three people tell me what STL Rockies did worked for them. Box it up with bubble wrap at home (not at FedEx or UPS or wherever. Box it at home). Then just say that there's glassware in there, no liquids and you're fine.
-
So we either illegally mail beer or do something with a same day service…what is that? How does that work?

A little late to the party on the beer stuff, but on the legality front I have a beer/liquor license and I can still only send within the state of Washington. It requires a much higher level than I have to send out of state. The includes even one can/bottle. There is no minimum level.
-
legally you are correct on sending across state lines. Though in the past i used to trade beer with my cousin (STL to Denver) by mail and never had any issue. We would seen glass bombers to each other. Essentially we'd bubble wrap in a box with a divider. then when you go to ship they ask if you have liquids and if you lie and say that you just shipping dishware/glasses, which explains why it's heavy and fragile. not saying you should do that but in the past that has worked for me.
-
We did a cross country beer exchange at work for a while. People just used same day services that use local shops like drizzly or instacart, or sites like craftshack if the lead time made sense.
-
Who Can Ship Beer
UPS only accepts packages containing beer from shippers who are licensed under applicable law and who have been approved for and entered into a contract with UPS for the transportation of beer. Shippers must possess a valid retailer or brewery license in their home states, and where applicable obtain a license or permit in the destination state.
Yeah…I am going to have to network a little and see what people are doing, seems like a lot to send someone

Can you throw a 6pack in a box wrap it up and just ship it? I know there's laws about alcohol cross state lines but if we're shipping a 6pack or two, I think that falls under the limit allowable.

FYI Taco, I also passed you in the standings yesterday. I recently relocated to Austin and they have some pretty good beers here. My favorite is 512 Pecan Porter. I don't think its widely distributed but I try to sip on at least one a week.

I have no issues with what Yermin did. I believe sportsmanship is an important component of the game, but swinging the bat at a hittable pitch regardless of the score / inning / count is not a demonstration of un-sportsmanship. Tony La Russa was very much in the wrong, even more so by publicly calling out Yermin and not defending him when the Twins threw at him the next night.
