I've been getting great P/G, but I have a bunch of core players playing over their heads.

Elite, sheesh, don't know about that. It's really a patchwork of waiver-wire feel-good stories.

My PTS/IP has nowhere to go but down from here on out, and Jed's offense still elite

WAR crushing me today...

Syndicate has made a killing in like the last 10 trades he's made. I didn't like the deal where he moved Kershaw preseason, but since then he has done nothing but build for 2013.

It's not a heavy price if Alvarez proves to be the better power bat, which is totally possible.

He tempted me with Hallday several times but not convinced he's healthy. If he is it's a strong 2nd half pickup but giving up McDonald/Reddick combo for $4 heavy price. Strong buy for 2013 by Syndicate
-
If Roy comes back as Roy, then my rotation will be unstoppable July-Aug-Sept.

That trade could very easily blow up in my face if Roy is all gimpy after the ASB.

Wow. Best deal of the year for Syndicate. All three pieces built to help for 2013+
-
or hey, maybe it'll turn out that I'm building my team in completely the wrong way and you and whomever else said it would take years for me to rebuild will be right
-
more competitive balance might depress prospect price
-
You're looking at them in a vacuum, prices are not an absolute, they're merely a reflection of what it takes to acquire in this league. It wouldn't surprise me if most other leagues from the get go had more competitive balance
-
(I'm just bitter today because South Carolina continues to win)
-
If the vote off rule was changed I the value of prospects would increase, making some of these higher prices more reasonable. Just don't think our league has figured out something that others haven't. Prices are at least twice as high here as others...

prospects are inherently risky, but if you're focused on the impact guys the history suggests you can have decent success
-
what surprises me is not the bidding on guys like Buxton or other top impact guys, its the holding of lesser prospects
-
I agree wholeheartedly with Jed though, the idea that a $5 difference matters is irrelevant. Either he's going to be Jason Heyward ish or cut
-
well we'll see next year I suppose if its impossible for me to compete. From my view from the tank year, I think you're going to be in a pretty big bind next year because of the structure of your roster this year. But flags do fly forever
-
My perspective very well may be different if I'm rebuilding. I may find that out soon, as early as next season.
-
Not trying to say its stupid. Just saying that from my view at the top of the standings it looks nearly impossible to compete when you're hamstrung by expensive prospects years away from their debut, let alone their peak
-
If I had more room I would have bid $10 on Buxton.

You can't pinch pennies when you're rebuilding, and those "four years away" estimates are frequently wrong anyway.

It's basically irrelevant, right? Any player at any price can be cut without penalty in October, and rebuilding teams with little interest in $55 player need not be concerned about the diff between a $2 prospect and a $8 prospect.

I guess it's good for you though, since I'm making a stupid decision and clogging my roster and salary cap right?

yea the prices on guys 3+ years out is insane

I have no hesitation nominating a guy like Buxton for the 1% chance everyone else is asleep and I nab him for $1. But to bid $7+ for a high school kid who is a min. 4 years away makes little sense to me
-
And that is unfortunate. Legal, but unfortunate.
-
Strikes bid on EVERY free agent, so I assume you are correct, Crying.
-
I assume the idea is to keep someone else from having an actually good value for these guys, and to cut them later on.
-
The inflation in our league for prospects compared to others is at least 100%. Soler going for ~ $3 or less in most; Buxton avg. likely to remain under $2
-
Jair jurrjens is an assclown

I have an AL only league with Paulino, Duffy, Longoria, Ellsbury, Markakis. It's been a rough year

TJ for Felipe Paulino - guess I was up for the TJ roulette wheel

Dan Haren didn't get the year of the pitcher memo
-
Nava leading off; some of today's "cleanup" hitters include J. Ruggiano, C. Ruiz, J. Keppinger, G. Jones. And we're surprised it's the era of the pitcher?
-
I'm going to float Haren, McDonald, Betancourt out there. Looking for a reliable bat as I am growing more concerned about Cain ever getting healthy.
