Welcome to the league man! Hope you're in it for the long haul. Best of luck next season

Hey guys just joined to help out other (kyle (player to be named later)). looking forward to joining the fun!

Arbitration is done, great job guys! Let Hot Stove season begin!
-
Yea, yea, fancy lingo fancy lingo. It can’t hurt to keep beating! The dynasty must be toppled.
-
And while we're so close to our very own Firehouse hot stove period, MLB does not wait to get things cooking and it seems we can start planning for the chance to bid on Roki Sasaki at our spring auction: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/11/npbs-chiba-lotte-marines-to-post-roki-sasaki-for-mlb-clubs.html

LOL, Ben, I am not going to stop you from beating your head against that particular wall if that is what you want to do (given your lack of those particular scars), just offering context (and note Harry was the one who brought it up). I agree my team has plenty of juicy arb targets, but if the motivation is to simply give me what for... this has been tried, repeatedly, to little avail.

I’m new here but we can’t let this dude who has like a million championships talk us out of putting every dollar we can on his team!
-
For those interested, Lucas Kelly just did a Rotographs piece on the topic of ottoneu arbitration assignment strategies (https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/ottoneu-arbitrary-arbitration-salary-increases/). He notes there that this league is not the only one that wasn't quite buying Gunnar as a generational talent prior to 2024.

Kyle, while I appreciate your attempt to fall on your own sword the truth, and to answer Harry's question, is that this happens to my team every year. While I am flattered, might I also suggest to the assembled that you might, rather than getting big mad and throwing the max at the top team in the previous season's standings, consider your arb targets a bit more carefully and assigning based upon some other principle? The "tag Chris as hard as possible" strategy does not seem to be wor

Guess that is what happens when you are handed Gunnar on a silver platter. My bad on that one, I was ill informed

How often does a team get the full $33 hung on them in arbitration?

Hope you all enjoyed the World Series, maybe lit a bus on fire, that sort of thing... it's also time for arbitration, and most (75%) of us have that entered. The rest of you have two weeks to get those in, and then it's on to the hot stove in the Firehouse. MLB already off at the gun for a couple teams doing trades, and that action is right around the corner here.

Looks like standings are final and prizes are out, for those expecting them, so I've gone ahead and removed the prior owners; all teams are now sole proprietorships. A quarter of the league has already paid up their fees for 2025, which is nice to see. Arbitration kicks off a week from today, see you all back around or after then and enjoy the MLB playoffs in the meantime.

Oh, and little shout out to Regression to the means…great addition to our league! Another couple weeks of the season and you could have made things real interesting. Way to battle! Looking forward to competing with ya next season. Anyway. Judging by the makeup of several rosters who weren’t quite in the money this season, I have a feeling they are gonna be here with a vengeance next season. Might be a near league wide competition next season. Hope so. Get your popcorn ready!
-
Keep at it Kyle, you’ll get there! Glad you’re sticking in here with us. You have some nice pieces, gotta keep making those tweaks. Do the research and definitely don’t sit on your hands. Find your core, and start trimming the fat. Always people willing to wheel and deal and if you can create some significant cap you can easily remake your roster between offseason and draft. Best of luck. Glad to have you…hopefully for the long haul.
-
I joined this league because I was tired of stomping my friends. Boy have I been in for a rude awakening here. Maybe next year
-
LOL jfc chris. THX. thats a good idea about spending the off season at driveline.
-
I also want to personally commend Joe on his second straight year in the money, and Kevin on his return to runner-up after a few years away. The rest of you are going to have to bring it a little more next year, despite the already a high level of activity in the Firehouse. More time in the cage this winter, maybe a trip to Driveline, I don't know...

Thanks, guys, it was fun as always. There were some casualties but we have some good ones mustering up in place. I'll remove the old co-owners shortly once standings are truly final, and you can all have a look at Niv's post on the Community for timelines and updates. Go play some Six Picks, or if you like lighting money on fire as much as I do then go check out the NFBC Postseason contest. Take a well-earned break, everyone, and see you back here for arbitration in a few weeks.

Congratulations to Chris on yet another championship!
-
Thanks Gales. Congrats to you as well. And surprise, surprise on another big win for Tebow Forever. Shocking 😉! Ha. Congrats man. Once again you rolled out an amazing team and left the rest of us in your wake. Maybe next year one of us will be allowed to win. As for the rest of you all, it’s been a pleasure battling it out with you this season in the standings, negotiating trades behind the scenes, and jockeying for the hidden gems on the waiver wire. Have a great off season all. Take care

GG Tebow Forever. Well done. Good job Prognosis Negative.

Better a $41 Cole with an achy elbow than a $61 one... one more note on Monday's likely DH, it occurred to me (though possibly obvious to the rest of you) that it's not just OF that could be padded out to 811 games but also the other non-C positions to 163 with (too) clever roster management strategies.

Hope this finds you all out of the path of Helene. There are implications for our game, which have been covered in the Community. Briefly, the league year will be extended by a day (thru Monday); this means you will be able to set lineups and auctions can be started a day later. In rare cases, some teams may end up with 811 OF games (if the Mets-Braves DH is played as anticipated, excepting what would assuredly be a complete collapse by ATL, and due to any other weather-related make ups).

As of yesterday, 90% of the games were in the bin. Interesting four(?) team race at the top here at the Firehouse, hope you all stay plugged in for the outcome here and the tight races the MLB seems to have set up with the expanded Wild Card doing its job there. Enjoy, good luck, then we break and it'll be arbitration time before we know it.

In case anyone (else) noticed, there was some overnight shifting in the standings due to the suspended game patch. For those new to ottoneu, Niv Shah is at the mercy of the stats provider and does patch results manually when they aren't automatically tabulated; this happens at the end of the year as well, and does occasionally cause a substantial shift in the final standings if particular categories are tightly bunched.

An impending Happy Labor Day weekend to you all, we do have a trade deadline approaching (announced in a lovely shade of teal at the top of the league page) so get any business taken care of before heading out for the holiday. We ticked past the 80% mark this prior weekend and it is now very much late in the day, so good luck to my fellow competitors down the stretch and let's see if both Tebow Forever and the Guardians can collapse in tandem.

All good, I just like to give Kevin a hard time bc he laps everyone in transactions and he's competition for the trophy. As you were, it makes for a fun and active league.

🤣 well I will say making moves as a new GM is definitely a requirement, so here we are. Kevin has been kind enough to make some mutually beneficial moves 🙏🏻
-
Settle down there Jealous Jerry 😉 How many titles will this one be this year, 8th??? What else, something like 11 top three finishes in 12 years or whatever it is. Let me have my trades. Theyre fun and keep things interesting. No one is stopping anyone else from making deals. When people are actually willing to move some quality in order to get some quality, trades happen.
-
Stephen, just so you know, doing trades with Kevin is NOT a prerequisite for being in this league... I can see how you might have been given that impression, but it really isn't a requirement.

Welcome to the league Stephen!
-
Thanks for the invite @Chris. Looking forward to competing with you all and making some moves before the deadline. That being said, give me some time to get my bearings. I'm new to Ottoneu, but have played a few seasons in this format (12 team but AL only) with a local squad that unfortunately fizzled. Game on!
-
Everyone, please welcome Stephen as the new owner of Cedar Rapids Orphans. The previous owner had the courtesy to reach out early to say he would not be continuing in 2025 and offered to let a new owner take over early to get the squad broken as they see fit, with the benefit of the approaching ottoneu trade deadline and arbitration offseason period ahead. With that, as you were. I was going to provoke you all with Ty Fitzgerald hype, but that Jackson Holliday kid looks pretty good too.

Officially ⅔ of the way through, shiny new draftees all signed and trade deadline fallout in the rearview. If you want to nominate any draftees who have not or will not appear in a game this year but are signed, go over to the Community thread and request their addition to the player pool. Our own Firehouse trade deadline is in a month, with eye catching teal reminder message on the home page, so stay plugged in, grab your popcorn, and let's see how the bloodhorses finish this race.
-
Two to tango is the turn of phrase, yeah? New draftee market is... wild is a mild way to put it. Firehouse economy, or maybe house on fire economy, what else is there to say? Get rich or die tryin, ain't that right Joe?

new level of lol unlocked and achieved
-
LFG, chris. thanks
-
I would also be remiss not to point out Joe Gales' exceptional and exemplary performance in the ottoneu Prestige League, where he has advanced to the knockout stage and will be... uh... playing against himself in the first round. In any event, good work and keep repping the Firehouse hard.
-
Second half almost underway, hope you all enjoyed the ASB and are not staring at a blue screen of death on your Windows PC or stuck in an airport trying to get home. We're just shy of 60% through it, lots of season to go but the time to make some decisions looms. Please update trade blocks (some of these are covered in a fine layer of dust), stay ready for the new Rule 4 draftee signings and MLB trade deadline moves, and good luck.
-
Thanks Chris for setting me up, Thanks Andy for the invite, and thanks everyone for having me. I am ready to wheel and deal!
-
Hey, everyone, please welcome Ben as the new owner of The Poo Bandits (shortly renamed, I'd imagine). This is rare, but the former owner Eric reached out to say he couldn't keep up the league pace (thanks Kevin, for all the auction spamming ;) ) and so was prepared to bow out early if we could find a replacement. Hopefully this ends the current ownership sojourn of this team and Ben can try to take it to the top once again.
-
Hope everyone had a happy 4th. We tipped past the halfway point last week and are on the downslope for game days left, baseball and summer both. The W category is insanely close and competitive, not sure the last time I saw it that bunched up, keep up the good work everyone and let's see who has the legs to win the race the rest of the way.

UP ONLY

Maybe more like a team and 1/2 of salary ;) lets not get too crazy and diminish the GM skills :)...and if I'm not mistaken, there were quite a few of the top dogs last year with some lofty budgets by season end. Anyhow, looking forward to battling it out with any and all who are going for it this season. Best of luck over the next 2/3
