Thanks Chris for setting me up, Thanks Andy for the invite, and thanks everyone for having me. I am ready to wheel and deal!
-
Hey, everyone, please welcome Ben as the new owner of The Poo Bandits (shortly renamed, I'd imagine). This is rare, but the former owner Eric reached out to say he couldn't keep up the league pace (thanks Kevin, for all the auction spamming ;) ) and so was prepared to bow out early if we could find a replacement. Hopefully this ends the current ownership sojourn of this team and Ben can try to take it to the top once again.
-
Hope everyone had a happy 4th. We tipped past the halfway point last week and are on the downslope for game days left, baseball and summer both. The W category is insanely close and competitive, not sure the last time I saw it that bunched up, keep up the good work everyone and let's see who has the legs to win the race the rest of the way.
-
UP ONLY
-
Maybe more like a team and 1/2 of salary ;) lets not get too crazy and diminish the GM skills :)...and if I'm not mistaken, there were quite a few of the top dogs last year with some lofty budgets by season end. Anyhow, looking forward to battling it out with any and all who are going for it this season. Best of luck over the next 2/3

Is two teams worth of payroll really enough to avert a Hot Gale Summer tho? hahahahahaha. TIME TO EAT.
-
Gotta strike while the irons hot my man…you only get so many cracks at these things…and trust me, I’m gonna need this to work out…because when I see all the cheap, young, high end talent flourishing for other squads down the road…I’m going to need something positive to hang my hat on. What’s more, I thought it might be nice for someone other than Timmy Tebow Forever getting the biggest slice of pie!
-
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. We're officially one third of the way through the 2024 season, not too late to make a run up the standings but traditionally time to evaluate the spoils to date. I'm mostly here to set an O/U on Kevin's final net loans, would we get enough action on the over at $350? I, personally, would bet that over. Is two teams worth of payroll really enough to avert a Hot Gale Summer tho?
-
Here’s to an unseasonably cold summer this year ;))…don’t pack away the sweaters and turtle necks just yet…
-
Wise of you to stock up, prognosis negative. The Gales are coming. I’m activating Hot Gale Summer !
-
Both lol! I had the Red Sox for 84 wins before Opening Day, but now it's going to be tough. As for me, I lost Cole right after the draft. Strider, Jung and Robert week 1. Suzuki after week 2 and now Cassas...it's going to be a struggle.
-
Not sure if you meant your squad or the Red Sox, Paul, but maybe someone here can make you both your own personal "how it started / hw it's going" memes... not what I would have expected first week of March, looked like you had the primo starting pitching staff. Then again, we're only 15% of the way in and things can and will change... I don't think the Astros are one of the worst teams in baseball (one's definition of "worst" being key here).

These injuries are brutal.

Didn’t even get a chance to start him lol
-
Sorry, Josh, I did not intend to jinx Cody Bradford. FWIW, I do not believe it is possible to jinx someone in a high risk occupation like oil rig worker, lumberjack, or MLB baseball pitcher... but there you go, nonetheless.
-
About two weeks in, 8% of the season already in the books, can you believe it? And the #1 SP in the game (thru three games, yeah) just went for a $1... no one trusts any of the arms to do anything but break your heart, it seems. And yet we have a team named with a Beach Boys reference, always good vibes... or vibrations, as it is. Keep it up, everyone, even when your team lets you down. Good to have baseball back, except in CLE tonight, where it is miserable out.
-
Great luck all
-
Thanks everyone, excited to jump in. Just getting the lineup set for now but I'll check out the trade proposals out there and get back to them asap. Happy Opening Day!!
-
Welcome to the league Eric. Best of luck! Looking forward to battling it out with you. Good luck to the rest of you all this season as well. Hopefully it’s as exciting and competitive as ever.
-
Welcome Eric! Good luck!
-
We have a new "interim" owner for Chaz Jism... something like the Angelos to Rubenstein transition, perhaps? Please welcome Eric to the Firehouse and let's get 2024 going in earnest.
-
Happy Opening Day Eve everyone! Our own version of the Kimbrel 2015 trade just agreed to b/w Harry and Andy and will help us kick things off... Heads up, we are unable to contact the new owner (Sean, Chaz Jism) and, after consulting with Paul, we are looking to find a replacement owner who will take the team "on consignment" in a sense. Hope to have that in place before things get rolling tomorrow, will announce here once in place.

Will hold it open a bit longer in case there are other opinions, but the upshot for the Firehouse seems to be that legal rosters are best, going over for an extended period to accommodate tardy 60IL placements by MLB teams is acceptable, and stuffing your roster with players after starting 15-20 auctions for speculative purposes is no bueno.
-
We're about 20 hours away from the Seoul Series... not quite Opening Day, but a reminder nonetheless to set your lineups if you have Dodgers/Padres who you want in there.
-
I want to say that a pre-season roster overrun that is proprtional to anticipated IL spots seems reasonable, but at the same time I can also imagine a way or two that could be abused.

maybe a few more of your players can just get suspended, then youd be in the clear ...woof
-
And full disclosure, I put in for the Luke Jackson as well so I don’t want anyone thinking more shinanigans after all this. Again, all these auctions were placed before I had an illegal lineup.
-
Mention the 60 day dl anticipation…so I found myself with way more filled roster spots than I thought so before I made crazy cuts I wanted to know what people thought about non season rosters…I didn’t want to be unethical that’s why I asked. Really just amounted to that. Not trying to gain some sneaky advantage. Just thought if I was cutting/keeping “x” RP vs another I’d wait a few more ST games before I made a move (if that was deemed legit” if not, I’d just make the cuts based on my gut.
-
This has actually become much bigger issue than I intended…really there was no malice here. I was in the red, was going to cut some guys, but I thought I’d find out what everyone thought. I was under the roster limits by multiple spots before I started any auctions and knew there was a couple positions of need for my squad and was afraid I wasn’t going to get many of the guys at the bids I felt comfortable with so I did numerous ones “just in case” well I got more guys than expected, not to
-
The "how much over the roster limit can I go" topic has been batted around at length over on the Community (and Slack, apparently), with the resolution as "whatever your league is comfortable with" (though this is generally with regard to the END of the season going into arbitration). Read up here (https://community.ottoneu.com/t/illegal-roster-between-end-of-season-and-arbitration/6191), from our own former Firehouse champ Russ, and follow the link in Niv's reply for more.
-
...though that hasn't done much to slow you down in the past, given the generally easy money policy around the Firehouse and concomitant loan availability. Me, I'm more of a stickler, but if you were to ask I'd suggest loosely that not going over the number of anticipated 60IL placements already on your roster is a fair way to proceed. In the end, though, carry on as you do and maybe we'll codify something like NRIs a bit better once a few more owners have chimed in.
-
Kevin, if that was a shot then I'd call it friendly fire... seems most here aren't feeling terribly put upon by your NRIs. Niv writes these rules to give some flexibility, as was pointed out below with the section V citation; however, note from section I that the application will not allow you to make or edit bids with your roster in an illegal state and the language about not "...willingly go(ing) over roster and salary cap limits". There are also the ensuing cap penalties to consider
-
My two cents: I'm readings this as you shouldn't be bidding on auctions when your roster is in a "not legal" state. Of course with so many auctions ending at the same time, you ran the risk of going way over the roster limit. I've always tried to get my roster legal as soon as possible, even if it means making difficult cuts. But to be honest, I'm okay with you holding off in this pre-games period as long as you're not bidding on more auctions.
-
Rules state:
Teams are allowed to bid such that they would go over roster or cap limits if they win the auction. If they do win the auction, they will have to get under roster and cap limits before they can set their lineups, make trades, or bid on other auctions.
-
The reason I asked the question in the first place was because I was actually going to make the cuts, but if ethics/protocol suggested it’s normal/fine to sit on these guys a few more days (since there’s no games) then why not? However, if it was poor fantasy ethics I would make the cuts. Haven’t been in Ottaneu that long so I thought it was a legit question. Anyway.
-
If that wasn’t a shot i apologize, but seemed like a shot.
-
Is that a dig at me, because judging by your roster I don’t see that. I was asking honestly and respectfully. And for what it’s worth, I won’t be cutting more than say 1-2 of those NRI if that’s what you’re referencing. I’m over because 3 of my guys are 60DL guys and haven’t been placed…and the other couple I went over because I won far more waiver auctions than I expected. I have no prob cutting down and was certainly not trying to be shady. Asked legit roster question. No games for 12 days
-
(lol) hey guys i got a bunch of nonroster invitees in camp here. ... i mean eventually theyll have to be cut so i can play the game, but lets let these guys play it out in camp here and see what we got. guys? i didnt plan for this to happen but maybe we can just agree to let it happen now that is has happened. love
-
I'll cut a few players in good faith as I await feedback from others. Again, didn't plan on having this much overage, and thought some of the 60 day DL would be available by now. Hopefully soon
-
Ha, I know you're joking around, but again, honestly I don't care either way about making cuts vs waiting a week, just ultimately want to follow proper fantasy etiquette and not be a D. I didn't plan to have this many players...didn't think I would get most of my waiver bids, and thought a few of my guys would already by on 60 day DL...so just thought sitting on my squad until the season started to see how things shook out wan't a bad idea...but I'll see what you all think.
-
I also do not care unless you went crazy and had like 60 players somehow
-
I might go full Tommy Pham on you for that. But in all seriousness, I do not care
-
Question for the league...obviously rosters have to be set by March 20th in order to be legal/accumulate stats...is it bad form carry an illegal lineup until that point? I realize I cannot make any other transactions/trades in the meantime if I stay this way, but sometimes you want to wait an see how roster battles shake out/how players perform in ST/and when players are placed on 60 day DL before making final cuts. What's the protocol/ethics here? Don't want to unintentionally ruffle feathers
-
A blistering pace out of the gates! Just a quick reminder that, even though the home page is still displaying last year's standings, the tie breaker for FA bids is a coin flip until the regular season starts (which will be 3/20, for the Gocheok Sky Dome two-game series b/w the Dodgers and Padres). And, with that, carry on... perhaps some Snell or Montgomery news right around the corner?
-
unfinished business: the lightning is coming
-
Thanks, Harry, for the heads up though sorry to hear it. You'll miss out on some of the bigger names, but those auctions will be draw plenty of interest as is. To the rest, if you won't be in please post up or let me know so we're not waiting around. Reminder, if it wasn't clear, that we're drafting Monday night so hope you're all ready to go live. See you then, maybe another Boras Four (or Two, as it is) signing in the interim?
-
I had something come up last minute, so I can’t make the auction tomorrow night. My team is mostly set, so I’ll just fill in what I need after. In anyone is looking to do a post auction trade, I’ll need a starter and MI.

March 4th works for me, sounds good and thank you!
-
We haven't heard from everyone, but most have chimed in, so I'll tentatively set the spring auction draft for Monday, March 4th @ 8pm ET. If you have a conflict please pipe up and we'll do what we can to accommodate it, otherwise we'll go dark for about a month and see you all then. Maybe Bellinger/Snell/et al will finally sign in the interim?
