If it's any consolation, a glitch in this site has now removed all my pitchers other than the ones who have already gone today. I went from 10 potential guys pitching to 2 simply because it pulled my guys from my lineup when I tried to move a position guy
-
I don't know how you can really gameplan early on in the season since the projections are so erratic. Along with uncertainty of injuries. Really just have to gameplan to reach the 1499.0 mark before the end of the season to take advantage of the soft cap.

I noticed Kershaw's team at 1522 about a week ago, googled "Ottoneu innings cap," found that page, and worked it so my last day had 4 starts
-
i disagree. it onky matters wheb you getbtobthis point. all the othrr innings wilk add. butbif you start with less than the cap then all innings count for that day. it obviousky doesbt need a season plan if rob figured out what was happening this quickly

That's not really true though. This doesn't change things that much, it just means that on the last day you have innings left you get some extra
-
The problem is that you have to plan right from the start of the season, not shift game plans halfway through....

You are allowed to 'game' the system. Otto's blogpost confirms this. If you plan right you can earn bonus points.

And also retroactive corrections? For going over on days prior to today?

Basically he is confirming that it is ok to game the system. You can start 5 SP and 5 RP if you have 1499.2 innings. Makes complete sense when 1500 is supposed to be the limit.

Only if you started the day over 1500. If you started under but go over you aref fine.

So there will be stat corrections from prior to today?

Innings over 1500 if started at the same time will count but once 1500 is reached no more new pitchers can accumulate innings.

Yea sorry guys. The soft cap is set by the site not me. The league did send out a notice regrading the change. In reply to green machine we were able to contact the site developer and make sure any innings over the soft cap allowance were removed

Streaming in normal leagues is a strategy that lots of folks use. Streaming in this format doesn't work as well because of the auction system for FA. So that's a really weak argument made.

Streaming felt like gaming the system, and ottoneu doesn?t care much for gaming the system. Also from the site

Taken from the site: The switch to soft caps will happen over the all-star break, because there are significant database operations required to make this switch. However, I can advocate for this change with two numbers:

But as far as I can tell, there was nothing about soft caps at the start of the season. Changing caps midseason seems fishy at best to me. If I'm wrong about the change timing, then oops continue as normal....

Personally, I chose to sit pitchers on some days because I thought it was a hard cap. In the end that's my fault. I would have taken advantage of those innings though.

Am I reading that link wrong- the soft cap switch happened mid-season? Which if you were playing the first half with the hard cap in mind, might (a little bit maybe) have influenced your strategy.

You do what you want, nothing to say other than it should have been made aware to all if this was the rule. I did ask.

Not that it really matters much to me, but my long time leagues uses a hard cap and the site we play on won't count those innings/points. I see no real reason for the cap to be a "soft" cap. This kind of scenario is why hard caps exist.

Had I known about any soft cap obviously I would have played it that way instead of limiting my innings.

Thanks for the clarification. FYI I brought this up a month ago when Kershawshank went over at 1508 and was still starting pitchers up until 1522. I was told by the commissioner they were looking into it and was never given another explanation.

In the meantime, I'd just like to point out how interesting it is that multiple teams are well over 1500 innings, and yet that was perfectly acceptable to you until today.
-
The 1500 inning cap is a "soft cap." If you'd like to know more, I'd gladly direct you to this link: http://about90feet.com/category/ottoneu/ . There you will find the explanation of the soft cap from the site's creator.

1500 innings for SP is supposed to be the limit. If you have an inning or so left you should not be able to use a SP in your lineup, let alone 4. Why have any rules if they don't apply.
