Yeah I played last time. I'm going have to pass on this go round though. I'd still recommend it as a way to pass some baseball-less time.
-
Schmegs played too last time, their site says new set of cards out this week
-
I'd like Henry to play
-
For the Strats league I have me, Fred, Patrick, Hook, Dan, and Nancy. So we need four to six more. I’ll reach out to Joe and Jesse.
-
That's the ticket. I wish I had the Pawsox to go to. But Cape Cod league should be fun this summer.

Personally, I am trying to remember that what I love is baseball, not necessarily Major League Baseball (TM). To that extent I am renewing my fangraphs membership, spending my mlb.tv money on a mini package to the local A club, and planning on going to a handful of games at the local community college. I'll be damned if I let a few dozen American oligarchs ruin my Spring.
-
I'm very much on the fence about Strat. I enjoyed it a lot last time, but now I just feel sad :/

I kind of feel that a draft is a message more to Ottoneu (and by proxy Fangraphs) -- which are under significant financial pressure.

re the draft…we only have limited opportunities to make any statements. So we cancel the auto renewal of our mlb.tv subscriptions (and honestly I might not renew even when games are back). Drafting now sends the opposite message, it says “don’t worry, we’ll be here for you, whenever/however you get this worked out, nothing is going to change how we feel about it.” I’d rather not send that message—even if it might be true, and even if no one actually hears much if we don’t draft now.

They are coming out with 2021 season and 2021 unleashed soon. Yes it was a lot of fun watching the replay in bed at night. No lead was safe playing Hook at Coors . I got him though with Dyson pinch running off his +9 hold closer
-
Waiting to hear from Kris and Mike F. Mikey, did you reach out to Joe/Jesse?

Anyone that didn't get in on the first go round with strat-o-matic online is welcome to join. It was a lot more fun than I expected.
-
I am not sure that the 2021 set is out yet, but it should be available soon. I would be fine with a historical season too though. 1998 would be a blast.
-
Nancy is also down for a new Strat season
-
Buford is in, but wants to know what season we want to play. Are we looking at last season or some historic season?
-
We need to get strato matic going
-
In.
-
Okay, I get it. But then I'd like to make a serious run at restarting the Stats league so we have some form of baseball to enjoy. I'm officially taking names at who's in on a new Stats league and I'll contact the others on this side from that league. Anyone who didn't join that league during the pandemic year, you're welcome to join this year. It's a lot of fun. Patrick, please go ahead and contact your guys.
-
Yeah, I agree. I'd like at least some leagues to be active.

... Also, it will be great to have an opportunity to think about (fake) baseball in a way that is a little more normal and a little less frustrating than doom scrolling for the latest lockout update. And on top of all that, once the auction is finished trades are live – It’s already been two months, how much longer do we think Charles can make it?
-
The commissioners spoke about this last week and we agreed about having the draft as scheduled. Here are some reasons why. We are delaying the draft in Capped, which gives us one early draft and one late. Second, the delayed season is just another layer of uncertainty to build into your auction strategy – I enjoy this element a lot and know some others do as well. ...
-
No, its good as is
-
Perhaps given the current outlook we should consider postponing this league’s draft?
-
Thanks Fred, I needed something like that
-
Funny me, I thought their name was a beer growler due to Bells Brewery in town , not a bear growler
-
I might need to get one of their caps. This one (https://kalamazoogrowlers.square.site/product/growlers-blue-and-yellow-stripe-hat/90?cs=true&cst=custom) has kind of a Ukrainian thing going on too. Unfortunately it’s one of those 1-size ones, which don’t work for everyone—in particular people with gigantic Bondsian horse-heads. And their marketing people call it a “hat”, which is annoying.

The Kalamazoo Growlers have issued a lifetime ban for Rob Manfred :https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2022/03/04/at-least-one-baseball-team-has-now-issued-mlb-commissioner-rob-manfred-a-lifetime-ban/

The league never ceases to surprise ; just heard about a single A pitcher that throws 102, look him up, and Brent owns in both leagues !
-
This league has always loved prospects.

its 9 degrees here , football is over so i'm hardcore baseball prep no matter what the lock out status is . One would think Id have more to show for all the work i put into this
-
So 61 of the top 100 prospects ( CBS list which is midgrade at best ) are rostered . Including 40 of the top 50. Charles has 5 of the top 20 numbers, 1, 2,3, 11 20. Taco has 6 of top 20 numbers 4, 8, 9,10, 13, 14
-
I thought Harper would be in draft too, but Charles was able to work his magic
-
Mike Trout is available. That should be interesting.

Since we can't improve ourselves via draft, and Charles has most of the too prospects to trade ,why not just send him the trophy and the money now and save the aggrevation ?
-
The auction really doesn't look that exciting to me. Maybe two guys with no question marks. A bunch of big names with a ton of question marks, and a bunch of $10 guys that will go for $20. There's a lot more to buy in Capped.
-
1b and C the shelves are empty
-
3b is stacked with stars and studs wow !
-
Now I’m wondering which is which.

Mikey their names are Waldorf and Stadler . An even better analogy is George Burns and Walter Matthau from the movie the Sunshine Boys ( which Joe would say he never saw or heard about )
-
Joe is also a specialist in the bad take (though he’d never talk up Orel, or any Dodger). Too much time driving around listening to sports talk radio and the sirius mlb channel and inadvertently soaking some of it in. But unlike Fred (though perhaps like some of us) he could be provoked down an endless rabbit hole.

So true. But I prefer the analogy of the two old curmudgeons up in the balcony of the muppet show.
-
Joe vs Pat was like old SNL skit , Point Counterpoint
-
It’s times like this that we really miss Joe, as that last comment would surely have prompted a multi-message response complete with statistical analysis.
-
Indictment for what crime? That’s a bad take. I’d much rather have Burnes’s 168 IP in 2021 than any of Orel’s seasons, even when he had 100 more innings. And that’s letting Orel pitch to 90s hitters (and he couldn’t even strike them out).

Old Wainwright got 206 innings last year
-
what a sad indictment of todays game it is when 180 innings is considered a lot. where have you gone orel hershiser
-
But I feel good about my team overall with the little cash I have to fill some holes.
