That’s a strange assumption, especially since those offers included several other players including Bryce Harper.
-
I thought you were keeping Eloy because you would only counter with deals with vlad or cease in them lol
-
More importantly: You can look at his value in the abstract all you want. But I’ve offered Eloy in at least 5 trades over the last couple of weeks. I had one counter (over a week ago) that I didn’t like. No other offers. I have no plans to keep him. Better Diaz than nothing.
-
The numbers you’re seeing are a 2 week August hot streak. The wOBA is trending down over the last week or so. If he’d crushed for two months after returning from injury, maybe I’d consider keeping him. But he’s too injured and too inconsistent to consider keeping. So I might as well move him for whatever I can get.
-
Ignoring his value as a keeper, since he has been playing this well as of late, his immediate value to those competing teams should be fairly high. The group of available hitters who are hitting 400+ woba in the last 30 games has to be a fairly small one (haven't done the work there since I'm not buying).
I think if Eloy continued to hit 400+ woba his ppg would creep closer to 6 and maybe the idea of keeping him wouldn't seem so absurd. At least, I would be interested in a hitter li

To be clear, I’m not sold on Diaz as a keeper, since there are some unknowns—like how will he look against MLB pitching? or how will he fit into the Astros 2023 plans?
But I’m much more likely to keep him than Eloy. I almost didn’t keep Eloy last year. And he just had another injury riddled, disappointing season and is more expensive.
-
Appreciate the reasoning.
I admit my gut reaction to this deal was "this has to be collusion" since it looked so unbalanced to me, so I posted on league message boards to get some understanding.
Maybe I'm undervaluing Diaz as a keeper, but maybe you're underestimating the value Eloy has.

What kind of value do you think Eloy has, anyway? Have you looked at his health/performance in the last 2 years?
-
I can try.
Eloy is essentially worthless to me and he’s not a keeper. His only value is to a contender—aka he has value to two teams. And at 5.12 P/G, he’s not exactly worth breaking the bank for.
Diaz’s been raking in the high minors, his prospect stock in on the rise, and should have catcher eligibility. He just got called up. If he continues to look good, he’ll be a nice catcher keeper.
-
Can someone please explain this trade to me?
I'm having a hard time grasping the value of a player who 7 days ago had a 0% roster rate across all of Ottoneu, let alone that the value is even close to Eloy's.

Looking to trade Carlos Correa for a comparable OF. If you're interested, lmk.
-
Rafael Devers must be the second coming of Ted Williams to get that haul back for him
-
I added some of my better prospects to the block as well. Willing to combine them with my win-now assets to help make packages work.
-
Hello friends. I am selling and willing to hear any and all offers. Players available include high-end performers and valuable role-players. Looking for long-term keepable assets in return.
-
Walker Buehler sweepstakes! Don't let anyone get him for too cheap!
-
I’m posting here since several of you have inquired already. I’ll mull offers this week, and start selling off this weekend.
-
Wellll I thought things would improve on the injury front but they’ve somehow gotten worse. I’m selling, and everyone is available—though I’ll try to right the ship next year, so I’m more interested in keeping/acquiring guys that’ll contribute next season.
-
This part of the season is fun, when it seems like someone other than Kenton could win.
-
@Ian sorry about your struggles against the Reds today, better luck next time
-
You're not interested bc you won't do fair trades (on purpose).
-
I'm not really interested he is too old.
-
Hi everybody. Since I got Freeman and Rizzo in the draft, Yuli Gurriel is relegated to my bench. I think he's pretty fairly valued at his salary, so I would trade him for a similarly valued reliever or even a lesser player and a few bucks of cash to play with. If you're interested, lmk.
-
That's brave, Kenton. Being willing to let a fair trade you accepted go through to make a point to your brothers. lol
-
nah its that you and Christian making a big deal about it - so I'd rather just do it instead of hear about it later.
-
Lol I'm confused. You asked me to cancel then changed your mind. Must be a younger brother thing.
-
I appreciate you being willing to cancel the trade Ben, but I can't give my brothers too much ammo to use against me.
-
I'll just eat my mistake its all good.
-
i do not want to cancel
-
I think Ben is doing you a favor here no need to get sassy. Final word you two... cancel?
-
I don't want to cause trouble and will do the trade as shown now and not cause any issues. And then I can accept proudly my praise from christian
-
It’s not a big deal. Cancel it if you want.
-
I did not notice that i was giving up 7 dollars i accepted and sent ben a message like 5 minutes later when i noticed. It's ok though I can just cut will smith I guess and get that money back eventually.
-
oh god jsut don't cancel lol its fine
-
In related news, I’m open to trading RP depth for OF depth.
-
I don’t like the precedent, but I’m OK canceling.
-
oh no i spoke too soon. A fair trade has a short lifespan in the Tonezone. <3
-
What your finger twitched and you clicked accept? Interesting... Lol Ben if you want to confirm I will cancel
-
but if everyone is opposed that's fine.
-
Hey guys accidentally accepted that trade not realizing i was giving up 7 dollars - ben and I agreed to cancel the trade. Andrew are you able to cancel it or do we need to trade back after?
-
Kudos to Tony for turning over a new leaf and seeking out fair trades.
-
I just want to congratulate Ben on being the first person in this league in years to do a trade with Tony and not get ripppppppped.
-
TONITEEEEEEEEEEEE
-
Oh snap, let's goooooo.
-
This is two days from now! Get ready haha
-
Okay based on everyone's responses- we are slated for Wednesday, Mar. 23rd at 9 PM EST/8 PM CST. I'll assume everyone good to go unless I hear otherwise. Travis was only person who that interfered with and he gave me the go ahead.
-
Okay I just submitted my votes. After awhile I just stopped voting for the times that didn't have at least 5 participants. Until April 6, I can do any day EXCEPT March 26. And my only other definite night commitment at this point is April 4th, but I can do after 8:30. I will add my STRONG preference against 10 PM (and 9 PM isn't ideal), especially on weeknights, as I wake up pretty early. But I'll do it if that's the only option.
-
Also, just to make sure this isn't missed, you can mark "If needs be" as 3rd option on this poll.
-
Thanks Ben! To make sure this is the last time we have to do this, here is a very detailed version of the straw poll with more dates added/time slots. https://strawpoll.com/polls/xVg7dbGmQZr
This also allows you to use "if needed" as an option for scheduling. Once those with scheduling restrictions fill this out, I think we should be able to find somethign that works.
-
I’d say I’m good after 8 Central any night.
-
Thanks everyone for responding. Unfortunately, it did not help much because the best option we have are four days that don't work for 2 out of 12 people. Any other windows people want to suggest?
Based on the responses, it seems the following are good with pretty much any of the timeslots:
Me, Kenton, Travis, CJ, Ian, Standifer, Ricky
That means we just have to find a time anytime in the next 2.5 weeks that works for:
Ike, Ben, Jodie, Sawyer and DK
