Wrigley’s new acquisition has 5 innings of no hit ball against the Yankees in his debut. Classic dynasty stuff there — you hold onto a prospect for a long time, trade him, he gets called up during the trade review period, and now he looks like Sandy Koufax!
-
Yep. Could not make the draft so I have plenty of Cap space. My SP has been terrible this year so re-tooling for next year.
-
Josh isn’t paying anything really. He has so much cap space this costs him basically nothing. Just inherits the $2 cost for Anderson. Pretty creative trade.
-
Well, that's a new record for this league. $17 paid for a guy who hasn't played yet in the show. Wow.

Though not nearly as inspired as Oye, I thought I’d dive in and continue the name changing. Make it a trend. Because, why not?
-
I miss both Oscar and Jose, and that voluptuous hair of theirs!
-
Miss Oscar Gamble, also

Outstanding name change
-
I don't believe we have had a mid season name change yet; so since nothing seems to be the matter with Yu anymore, I've decided to honor my sauve first baseman who is in the rock n roll hall of fame.

My roster move today feels a lot like a real life Jerry Dipoto roster move
-
Agree. But I’d say the game has always needed a José Cardenal throwback
-
What the game needs today is a Jose Cardenal throwback - someone who routinely makes basket catches out in centerfield

It would have to be high!

I wish Vegas had a betting line of over/under the number of times Buxton, Judge and Stanton go on the DL every year.

Awesome! Never attended a playoff game, but the atmosphere must be electric (especially if the home team wins 🙂)
-
Small-ish world. I was there, too. My grandparents took 12 year-old me and we sat in the upper deck, left field side. Grampa was a huge Cubs fan, must have rubbed off on me. As great as that game was, the 98 Wild Card against SF and WS game 5 in 2016 far surpass it for plain ol' excitement. I lived 1 1/2 blocks from Wrigley in '98. The WC game was crazy.
-
Best game I ever saw at Wrigley was “The Sandberg Game”, when he hit 2 HR off Bruce Sutter. A “game of the week”, back in the day - we had a college outing. Cubs came back from 7-1 down (Trout got bashed around early). Sandberg homers in the 9th and 10th, each time to tie the game, and Cubs win it in the 10th on a Dave Owen walk-off single. Sandberg went 5-6 with 7 RBI, and Willie McGee hits for the cycle. Awesome game, massive sun burn, seriously hoarse voice. Sat in the RF bleachers.
-
Speaking of Wrigley, I was at the game in 2003 when Prior injured his shoulder in a collision running between first and second base. Was never the same after that.

I remember you telling me about that Hendricks game, Nathan. He’s a throwback
-
I was at Wrigley Field with my son Henry on July 22, 2014 and saw Kyle Hendricks pitch his second MLb game. No one knew who he was. Completely unheralded. Looked to be pitching high-80s junk, but went 7 IP of 5 hit shut out. Glad he is still doing it.
-
Alright, I now have 15 starting pitchers! Of course, 8 are on the DL and one is on the “stupid” list. At some point, somebody has to throw an inning or two, don’t they? Every day I’m looking to see what starter is going and it’s usually coming up zero. LOL.

Roster construction 101 - having only one RP is not a great idea

You don’t see that every day!

Hey Lux, FOUR bombs in a row by your boys just now! Quite a feat! A Bad Century indeed!

I think we can agree that experiment has failed. Players have only themselves to blame, too. Negotiating hard is going to cost some of these guys a bundle by getting injured before free agency years and their big paydays arrive
-
Seems like the shortened ramp up to start the season is really taking a toll on players now. At least in my case. Nine guys on the DL, including four in the last two days. It does suck to suck, that way. I would think shortening spring training is now off the table.

I think Wells was 187 when he was 13 years old, lol
-
I’m always suspicious of a player who, in his 30’s, suddenly discovers “another gear”, but whatever he’s doing or taking, it’s working
-
Wells’ Baseball reference page lists him at 187 lbs - hilarious
-
All those doubleheaders, after 2 weeks off. Watch the pitcher injuries flow hot and heavy
-
More important question - is Lance Lynn the new David Wells?
-
I think the issue with the taxi squads is all the MLB roster rules come into play - eg a lot of guys on taxi squads aren’t on the 40-man roster. So it’s completely impractical. To me it wasn’t thought through. Now the Cards have to play 53 games in 44 days and would still be @58 total. 11 double headers. Crazy
-
Fully agree - that’s what the taxi squad is for. Or forfeit - sucks to suck, as one of my kids often says. But this nonsense of not playing for weeks in end and team’s playing different numbers of games is ridiculous
-
Since each MLB team has a 30 man taxi squad, why are teams shut down when they test positive?? I say the team goes on quarantine and the Cards or Marlins taxi squad is now their team to play out the regular schedule until the others can come back. Playing 7 inning double headers is great for a team's bullpen.

Let's get the deals going! While it may appear to be a nepotismistic (say what?!?!) kind of trade, historically Mike has made me multiple trade offers on a weekly basis since this league has started and I believe I have only accepted a handful of them; my typical morning routine over the years is to wake up, make my coffee, and reject Mike's trade offer of the day. Glad he's back in the league! As Michael Corleone once said, "It's between brothers, Kay."

You know me - gotta mix things up! Loads of big names tossed around in that one!
-
I love the block-buster, conspiratorial, nepotism infused trade between Lux and Whassa - well done!
-
I feel you, Lux. Calling all SP's on my staff? Can anyone out there throw a couple innings once in a while? Good grief. Either they're COVID, otherwise hurt, awful (see Weaver) or stupid, a la Plesac.

But watch out, Calvin - I’m within 700 points of you!
-
Oops - forgot to check my lineup and missed Snell’s start. No wonder I’ve only got 125 innings so far
-
Thanks for flagging that Bombo -- I hadn't realized that. During these crazy times, I'll take my good fortune in Ottoneu as long as I can get it.
-
I had checked at one point last night and Calvin was #4 globally. Right now he's 0.2 out of 4th, so that's what we're dealing with, lol. Great start.

23 of the 30 teams are averaging less than 5 innings per start. It’s effectively still spring training for many (not Bieber or Judge 🙂)
-
Yep, they had three months off again, just like the regular off-season. Morton came out of the game due to an arm injury, Verlander's likely done for the year. Scherzer's hurting again, Twins have two starters on the DL, it's Just a crapshoot this year. Cole didn't even finish 5 yesterday.

Read an article about Cards’ quarantined pitchers throwing against their mattresses in hotel rooms to try to maintain arm strength. Pitcher injuries in first 10 days of this season are 250% higher than any year in a decade. What the hell, MLB!?!? You have to do better. All that bickering over cash cost these guys a proper training time, and they’re paying the price now.
-
and so it continues for TB pitchers. Today, first inning: Morton gave up two hits, walk, HBP. Only gave up one run, but another cluster.

Did no Tampa SP throw during the break? Another day where the starter lasts 3 innings or less. Don’t think anyone on the Rays has thrown 6 full innings yet.
-
Springer and JD Martinez are for sale
-
It's a total fluke and now I have a very bad feeling I'm going to give up some dingers tonight...
