I love CJ Abrams, and have him on 4 of my 5 teams. His slow start doesn’t bother me a bit. Abrams is going to be very, very good. I’d trade Goldschmidt for him 10 times out of 10.

… and there is no way to trade expensive players for cheap prospects without loans. It’s part if the game. If you cling to your prospects, you will always be frustrated when your rivals who are willing to trade prospects add star players.

Trading cap space is one of the ways bad teams (like mine) can stay active and interested in the game. And it rewards contending teams who are smart enough to roster good prospects and who are willing to trade them. It is hypocritical to complain about other teams trading prospects for stars if you are unwilling to trade your own prospects. If prospects are so super-valuable, then why is there a problem with me trading a 34 year old 1B only guy for a prospect?

I did not veto this trade because I respect people’s right to have their own values. Obviously I disagree on the value that was exchanged but that’s not what my particular gripe is about. I think this trade sets a bad precedent about how cap dollars might be valued, and that’s a discussion I want to have because it affects people who aren’t even involved in the actual trade.

for as long as I can remember and correct me if i’m wrong, but the guidelines were pretty much anything goes unless it was obvious that there was blatant collusion.
If you all want to veto this trade and set new guidelines on voting, I have no problem with that. SG, I would recommend that new voting rules are relatively specific and well thought out and are agreed upon a league wide vote of at least eight owners, if you decide to go down that route.
-
Trade voting has historically not been based on a fair market determination. This is simply because there will always be varying opinions on talent and future valuations. Niv has given guidance in the past on this point even though there is no written rule. There is some exceptions, for me, and that is when you have an experienced owner preying on an owner new to Ottoneu. Each league usually has established its own guidelines in voting, including this one. Graham has been our commish
-
It's not only a matter of the fair value of a given player. We should outline that some owners have turned their nose up at trades involving two given teams.

I don’t think any of these trades involving the players being discussed warrant providing such substantial cap relief. It significantly undermines the rest of the league who are attempting to navigate their cap. Maybe a couple dollars here and there to balance the sides could be justified. I completely respect an owner’s right to value his players, but as a general practice a star bat like Goldschmidt PLUS $13 in cap space for a player like Abrams is a valuation I’d like to see revisited.

JDM plus $35 for Triston Casas? I sent the offer. Same offer stands for Shane Baz. JDM and Goldschmidt are so similar in hard hit rate, exit velo, barrel rate, etc. Baseball Savant has JDM as the 4th most similar hitter to Goldschmidt in all MLB. They are the same age. And JDM has OF eligibility. How can you not view the 2 of them as essentially identical in terms of trade value?

I have Witt and Abrams at SS. I have no use for Adames. I countered with Casas. JDM plus $35 for Casas or for Baz…. Are they both seriously THAT much better than Abrams? I wouldn’t give up Abrams for Casas.

Trust me, I am not the "that guy" in this league. I countered your offer with an apples-apples player to your other trade and you rejected it within seconds (Adames>Abrams in this scoring system). That is all I needed to know.
-
I think Abrams for Goldschmidt is fair value if you are selling, and I respect the player valuation there. I wish I had known you were selling even though I don’t think I could have necessarily offered better. I do think there is a substantial disconnect on the finances.

I just offered JDM plus $35 for Shane Baz. If Goldschmidt-Abrams is so far out of line, then presumably JDM-Baz is lopsided in AP’s favour. I’d be interested to see why JDM plus $35 for Baz is so far from Goldschmidt plus $35 for Abrams that one deal needs to be vetoed while the other gets rejected. I assume my offer to AP will be accepted.

The Spa/Winnetka trade has gotten some attention on the board and to me by message so just reminding everyone the trade review period is 24 hours. There is no criteria in the rules for vetoing a deal. It's up to each individual owner. Everyone in this league pays attention and knows how to communicate with each other so it will get discussion and a fair review. Whatever the owner result is, remember this is fantasy baseball not life or death.

I seem to have acted too quickly, and (as usual) foolishly with the great Cody Bellinger. I can’t bid on him because I cut him. So one of you lucky Ottoneu owners will get a discounted Bellinger, who is on a streak of good games. I almost cut him in another league at $21 but held off. I’ve not claimed to be particularly good at this game.

I’ve decided to cancel the remainder of the MLB season and declare myself victorious! ;-)
-
Neubies looking strong. Has a solid lead already.
-
Better luck next year, Solid! LOL
-
I'm celebrating 1st place. It's just day one of a long season, but I will take the small victories.
-
That makes more sense! I didn’t notice that you posted 6 minutes before Smith’s auction ended. Smith is a step up in power, though a step down in real life b/c of speed/fielding/hitting. And that may give Peraza a longer career though with less of a fantasy peak.
-
I wouldn't roster Gimenez, no power. I was referring to Kevin Smith.
-
Gimenez is pretty similar to Peraza, but Peraza grades higher in power, so I think he has more upside in this format than Gimenez (though I agree their fielding and speed profile makes both of them better players in real life than in FGPts.) in any case, IKF won’t stand in Peraza’s way later this year, when he’s had his AAA seasoning.
-
Peraza is a decent prospect, but doesn't translate that great to this scoring format. Yankees prospects tend to be a bit over-hyped. There is a pretty good hitting SS prospect that will play this year that is being bid on right now.
-
Haha! If I had Volpe, I would want more. That’s why I said NYY #2 prospect! My guess is that one of them or Gleyber gets traded, and the other two cover 2B and SS; Peraza is the better fielder, so I’m guessing he takes SS if he isn’t the one traded, but who knows how it will play out.
-
I thought Anthony Volpe was going to be available until I got to end. Damn

I didn't realize Bauer was getting paid as well. So this administration leave could end up in his favor by possibly extending his career. I think it is pretty obvious that the DeShaun Watson situation was much worse in the public eye. Watson just got a massive new contract.

So far he has been fully paid. While on “admin leave” he has received his full salary. I can’t see a case to be made against LAD for hurting future earnings - I doubt there has been any case law on a team’s duty in that regard. If LAD really wants to punish Bauer they could make him pitch and ride his arm hard hoping he gets hurt.
SAM I AM on

I didn’t realize he’s still being paid. Maybe LAD have grounds to sue? I think Bauer could also argue that not being able to pitch is going to impact his future earnings. He can opt out after this year.

That is a tough case to make. Still, I am firmly in the pro-Bauer camp. If they suspend him without pay, I hope he sues them and wins. But I don’t think he has a civil case unless he can prove damages.

Bauer’s problem suing MLB is that he is getting paid. If they refused to pay him, he would have a great case. But how do you prove “damages” when he is not out any money? Keep in mind you need to make a prima facile case for damages just to get to a jury, and then you need to convince jurors to award you money when they know he is getting paid $40M a year to NOT do anything.

I think there is probably more to the story that the public doesn't know about, and maybe we never will. Admittedly I don't follow these soap operas closely, but MLB's firm stance on continuing this suspension doesn't seem to add up with the information we all have. Otherwise I think you're right that Bauer could be in a position to sue. Hasn't Bauer been pretty quiet about the whole situation? He doesn't seem like someone who would follow his attorneys' advice to keep his mouth shut.

I don't think Bauer is anti woman, he has a female agent. I think Bauer is not woke, and doesn't care what people think of him and that sets people's opinion of him the wrong way.
-
In my opinion, Bauer has a case where he could sue MLB for undue suspension.
-
I have no problem with Trevor Bauer, and I think he is being unjustifiably punished. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding he and the woman involved had a kinky, bdsm relationship that she pursued. She kept coming back to HIS place, even after he ended their relationship. To me, this looks like a classic money grab. I wonder if some unscrupulous attorney got into her head and decided to file charges to lead into a civil case.
-
To clarify - not pro Bauer. More anti-Aroldis. That guy is really tough to root for.
-
True. Seems like Aroldis should have been on the sidelines longer given a gun was involved
-
It is possible for someone to violate MLB policies/rules without violating state or federal laws. Consider Pete Rose.
-
Granted I'm the guy/possible fool that just traded for Bauer but what is the rationale for him never playing for the Dodgers again if the courts cleared him? Other than the fact he seemed unlikeable even before the allegations. As a Yankees fan, Aroldis Chapman is without a doubt equally bad or worse.
