I cut one guy but now it is not letting me cut anyone else?
-
the rules link in upper right is actually pretty helpful for how all this works. it's extensive, but useful.

techincally cuts ended jan 31 for returning teams; if you just paid and joined though there's a trigger for penalty free cuts (i can do this for anyone, so if the league wants one more round, we can do that). You can certainly keep your roster as-is. But you may decide that the guys currently there are not worth what you're paying them and cut them loose. Whatever salary you have left after keeps/cuts is your budget entering the auction draft where everyone bids against each other to fill roster

Lord Pork Chop can you fill me in how this works as I took over mid season last year and have not done anything from start of season? What happens between now and start of the season? Is this my team I start with? What is this stuff about a draft how does that work? What is reason you want to drop players now etc and not keep them? Sorry just unaware of how it works?
-
sheriff - good to see you back; hopefully everyone else finds their way back too.

5 left to fill: raging birds, themench's, battling chucks, moose, and rodger dodger. I haven't been doing anything, so assuming these spots are available on the main page for folks to fill; we can manually switch ownership though if you have someone you'd like to join us; but otherwise, we'll wait for these 5 to fill and get draft scheduled. New owners - you can cut players without penalty for now; go nuts. Maybe the last guy left you with some decent keepers. And welcome of course.

I just paid! I am back to win it!
-
Are we down to 3 to replace? Should we have those 3 another week in case they might rejoin?
-
looks like 5 of us have paid, and therefore we'll need to replace 7. if anyone knows of any interested folks, please pass along. I'll investigate other options in the meantime.

A bit hard to tell who is still active - may need a role-call of those who plan to participate. Only 3 of us have renewed thus far, but several others have logged in somewhat recently at least (most everyone at some point in 2024 for example). So TBD on how many we may need to replace. Hopefully folks can chime in over the next week or two, and then we'll assess, recruit, and set draft date.

Thanks, LPC! How many team owners do we still have? Rather, how many do we need to replace? Excited to auction!

Keeper deadline and payment renewal date is today for those who may have forgotten. Looks like most still need to attend to one or both of these things. Ready for the next season!

There is some time now to release players or make trades. Also be sure to see who was voted into arbitration for next year

just a friendly reminder to the few teams who haven't yet voted (seemingly several of the more active folks, so perhaps intentional) - Arbitration voting is open. Do note that all votes are final.

there was indeed another cut period after arbitration. somewhat useful to keep a wider roster prior to arbitration, because it leaves more folks to split votes among - someone will be voted off your roster (though you have advantage re: auction next spring if so). do check the rules link to see how all this works; it's very helpful in explaining these steps.

I think there is a cut period after arbitration. Should be a keeper deadline before the auction draft…
-
Remember guys, the players you don't drop before Oct.15 will be stuck on your roster until next year I believe. Also remember that all major league player salaries will increase $2 and minor leaguers will increase $1.

Congrats to Bichette, and well done Sheriff as mentioned. Also looking forward to the next steps as we head to next season and hoping everyone sticks around. Regarding rules, I'm always on the side of erring towards the rules as established, since that's what makes this format different from others and more interesting (IMO). See rules link for any questions on how those work: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/rules

Discussion points moving forward:
Everyone’s thoughts on scoring system?
How will we handle arbitration?
Anyone leaving?
Do we want to keep a regular season & playoffs or just a regular season. I can see arguments both ways on this one, esp with so many players sitting out the last few weeks.
Thanks to all for a fun season! I’m ready for some wheeling and dealing and our next auction!
-
This league nearly died after last season when a chunk of teams and our commish left. Major shout out to redlegs for stepping up and taking over. We may be a group of strangers but I think this league is super fun and look forward to keeping it going!
I hope everyone commits to returning next season. Please let us know if not so we can recruit new teams.
Shout out to new sheriff! Dude took over a team midseason and quickly molded a contender. Plus with plenty of cap spa

Why isn't wins a category for pitching in playoffs but is for regular season?
-
I believe there’s a cap on SP no matter what for H2H playoffs. It’s just either 2 per day or a total starts for the week.

Playoffs has had the 2SP cap as far as I know (or did last year here, which surprised me then as well). Designed to avoid running up the points in the counting categories I believe. I too have way too many starters. However, does encourage you to prioritize the seemingly good matchups on days when you may have more SPs going. For the record, I think if you start a third in an RP spot (if he has eligibility both ways), those stats don't count. But I might be misremembering that from last season.

Number of Playoff Teams: 4 2-Week Semifinals: Yes 2-Week Championship: Yes Scoring: H2H FanGraphs Points GS Cap: None 2SP slots per day. Has the playoffs always had a cap of 2 SP per day. I built my team to have tons and tons of starting pitching for playoff and did not see this listed the few other times I looked in the settings and feel like it was recently added? Can someone clear this up for me please?
-
Sheriff, your trying to dump salary with two weeks left in the season. People are also going to turn down loans to make a trade happen. Good luck in the Playoffs.

I am a little disturbed that I have sent probably 15 fair trades trying to shred a little salary cap and have had no takers. Every trade I have sent has been fair and would help both teams needs and I put lots of thought on them but I get not a reply not anything but yet I see all this off landish uneven trades happening left and right. Not sure what is up but oh well I guess I will just win the league with what I have

Both are adults and are in charge of doing to their teams what they want. Do I think it was a equal trade? Not particularly, but Squeakers said what he was doing and is ok with it. Besides I don't see Redlegs making the playoffs like he said he was fighting to do.
-
Having some trouble with what has essentially become a Trout/Vlad for Gray/Hayes/Lynn deal. Would have preferred a straight cut & re-auction approach so everyone had a crack at things. But curious what others may be thinking here.

I guess my point is this. I was thinking long term Squekers wins. Short term, I think it favors me. I'm pushing for the playoffs this year. He's building a team for the future. If you all decide to veto the trade, I'm ok with that. I just wanted you to know what I was considering when I made the offer.

He needed pitching so I gave him Gray and Lynn. Lynn's ERA is deceptive and he has been among the lead leaders in strikeouts. I gave him two good prospects in Bart and Hayes. Baez and Abreu were thrown in to balance some of the salary. From my understanding, he was about to cut them lose for nothing, so I thought two starting pitchers and two prospects was a fair deal. Trout isnt guaranteed to come back by mid August and Vlad is is crazy overpriced and is definitely a rental. I

Hey LORD which trade were ya talking about? The one with Bichette or the other one?
-
I'm referencing the Trout/Vlad deal. Only 2 of the 7 players you got back in that deal were pitchers, one of whom has a 6.47 ERA? The other one makes more sense.

Gents - I'm not typically inclined to veto a trade. But this one looks pretty lopsided. So before I weigh in with my vote one way or the other, I would love to hear the rationale for the move, particularly from Squeakers. I'm sure salary was one piece of the equation, but not exactly seeing a bunch of young talent coming back that would lend some balance. Thanks in advance.

I talked to Ottoneu's founder today. He said most leagues go with an allocation system. He said this gives teams lower in the standings more money to spend in auctions. It can be anywhere from $11-33. There is an article Niv shared with me for more details: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/ottoneu-arbitration-omnibus/738

I actually don't mind the vote off option- allows for teams at bottom to have some hope; it's only one player from each roster, so drafting well insulates from some of that pain (i.e. - acuna did not get plucked from my roster last year). I do agree that finding a gem of a rookie and losing him is frustrating; wonder if we could make the rule to apply to folks who have 3+ years service time or something. Hoping folks here are bought in at this point and won't quit due to that frustration.

Yeah that is a pretty harsh penalty for doing your homework leading into a draft or just being flat out lucky in the draft.
-
The vote off option is where each team can vote on 1 player on each of the 11 teams to be reauctioned. The player from each team who receives the most votes, can be put up for auction agai during the draft next year. The current owner would get a $5 discount off the auction price, but would still have to stay under the cap. Last year, the bidding for Ohtani went above his available cap space of the previous owner and he lost him. He quit the same night.
