We’re at five for football. Anyone else interested? I’m thinking $50 entree. Let me know what you think. Let’s move the football talk to our Slack page so we can keep this message board about the Boys of Summer. .

This was brought up on our Slack channel, more eyes may see it here. So far myself, Robert and Seth are interested in starting a new Otto Neu football league. You can post here or send me a message if you would like to join us. I'm open to discuss the entree fee (I prefer not to use the $20 tier) as well as which roster structure to use. I prefer a live draft. Let me/us know if you want in. Thanks!

@poseylicious - Good question, but I would prefer to keep the rule as is per the Otto Neu default.
-
@BlueCrew - see my message in slack. Was wondering if we can make trades during that initial 24 hour period when our lineup is illegal. it was mentioned in the slack convo, but I think it would have to be explicitly approved to be allowed here. need commish to force it through if we do it.
-
@Hebrew Hammers - I just took a look at your roster. I saw a lot of red writing, which is never a good sign. Hang in there, they'll come around.
-
9 players currently on the IL/COVID lists...... team is doing well, lol
-
Thanks to those of you who voted and offered opinions in regard to teams with illegal rosters and the maximum number of hours they will have to make their roster legal. Based on the poll and feedback, a team with an illegal roster will have 24 hours to make it legal. The time will start when the roster became illegal. If a roster is still illegal after 24 hours, then the transaction will be reversed. Thanks again for your feedback.

I’m finally getting back to post a message. My computer took a dump yesterday and I’m looking to purchase a new one. Plus a few other things happening that’s keeping me from getting back before now.
I must say that I liked reading the dialogue regarding the trade. I think MB did a great job explaining his thoughts regarding the trade and I also liked the posts by Championship Beltran and Hebrew Hammers. All posts were done in
a respectful manner. Nice MB in immediately looking to t
-
One final not, I asked Chad Young his thoughts. Chad writes for Pitchers List and RotoGraphs and does multiple Ottoneu podcasts. His response:
“Depends a bit on format. In Pts leagues that's a pretty reasonably priced Soto and I can see why people think you should've gotten more. But I don't think it's bad. In roto I think you did great.”
He’s an “expert” sorts and thinks I did great!
-
And just to be clear, i have no issue with anyone having an issue with the trade. I like the debates!
-
Player valuations are in the eye of the beholder. I don’t personally think much of Ian Anderson. He’s all name at this point. Not much from a fantasy point of view in my opinion. So so era, whip, and not great K’s. Reminds me of Stroman who was unowned in this league. I like Bassitt, but he’s 33yrs old. I truly don’t think it’s inconceivable that Royce returns in a few weeks and mashes and Baz returns 2nd half and is better than both Anderson & Bassitt. And Carroll looms large in 2023.
-
I don't love the trade, but I mostly agree with MB that absent at least a whiff of impropriety or a suggestion that we should kick out either owner for incompetence, I think owners should be left to make the deals they deem are in their own best interest. If anyone else is looking to rebuild, I've got some prospects and a willingness to deal for win now pieces.
-
I do respect your ability to run your team as you see fit. And you should run it how you see fit. Just the three for three is pretty out of proportion in my opinion. Even if getting back prospects that will help your team. Soto is a top 5 talent in the game (offensively). If everyone votes then I am totally fine with the decision. Just wanted to add my two cents.
-
Honestly I don’t mind the Soto for prospects move. I get the bloated price tag and needing financial flexibility moving forward. I don’t love the inclusion of the two pitchers as well. Soto for prospects makes sense. 3-for-3 makes less sense for me
-
And to touch on trade partners, i reviewed each team. Only 2 teams had the cheap young prospects i would want to make a deal like this with. I tried both teams. If we rework a deal to make it “fairer” with bloated contracts that i don’t want, i’ll just end up cutting them and we are back to square 1. But doing that, i get half financial penalty which is why i preferred not to take on a “better player(s)” with contracts that would cost me money just for appearances. And that’s all i got. #vote
-
Ultimately i’ve been annoyed at trades like this in the past, so i can’t completely dismiss that. But beyond collusion or an insanely erratic owner making a million different trades that contradict each other, i think each owner should be given that rope to run his organization as he see fits. I have a plan. I should be allowed to execute it.
-
I’ve seen these trades a million times and in a year from now, i may just look like the clear clear winner. Carroll is currently regarded as the next #1 prospect w/ other recent promotions. Royce showed he belongs. He will be back up soon and help this yr and for many yrs to come. And Shane B was thought of more highly than Shane M and look what he is doing. I wasn’t going to find many suitors that made sense with $67 Soto. I tried one other team, but they seemed reluctant to part w/ prospects
-
My defense: Prior to voting, here me out. However vote goes, I’ll abide. But i’ve been doing this a long time. 1yr of the Ott specifically and I caught on quickly. I inherited a trash team that i’m looking to turn around for 2023. Soto at his price is useless to me. And also, incredibly difficult to move at that #. Who could afford to take him without passing me back awful contracts (which defeats the purpose). I got 3 top prospects very-to-relatively cheap. Pieces i can keep or flip easily.
-
As the commish, I’m usually hesitant to post before hearing what other managers have to say. But, this trade did raise my eyebrows.
Every manager can click on the trade to view it and vote to allow or deny the trade.
For any trade, I would encourage owners to visit that link when a new trade has been posted.
Oftentimes, managers will post a trade on Slack to gather opinions from other Otto managers.

-
Okay, I do not usually say anything about a trade that goes through. But this most recent trade to be made it borderline absurd. Soto, Bassit, and Anderson for three prospects is absolutely ridiculous. I get it that one team gets to dump a lot of salary. But that is just absolutely ridiculous to me. Not sure we can do anything about it, but I had to at least say something.
-
I posted a poll on our Slack page. Please take a minute to visit and vote.
In regard to the podcast I mentioned on Slack, there's a great segment on rosters, specifically illegal ones. It begins at the 17:45 mark and worth a listen.

I figured it was something like that. Thank you!

When you have a player on the 60 day IL, Covid list, or Suspended you are able to roster an additional player. Looks like you have several in that category so you can add a few extra guys temporarily. You would just have to release them as those guys come back from injury and such.
-
Anyone know why it says I'm rostering 41 of 44 players? I thought they were 40 man rosters.

I posted a new podcast episode related to Otto Neu. It’s well done and features Niv, who created Otto.

Just seeing these messages. Milton Bradley's has it right. When a new owner takes over a team, they get a one time chance to make penalty free cuts. The FA fits in with that. Nice to see our two new owners getting involved early and doing what they can to improve their teams.
-
That makes sense! Thanks. Ottonewb here.

I assume it has to do with this Ottoneu rule "If a team's manager changes, the new manager is given the opportunity to make one round of penalty-free cuts" - I'm assuming as a result, these players do not go through the normal 24hr waiver process
-
Welcome Brian! I see you're revamping your team. Love to see it.
On that topic though, can anyone tell me why the 10 or so players Brian cut 14 hours ago are already FAs? I thought they should be on waivers for 24 hours.

Thank you for that hearty welcome. Glad to be here gang. I'll work on the roster cuts tonight and start plotting out long term moves and the ever important Team Name. For anyone looking to wheel and deal, I'll officially be open for business tomorrow.

Please join me in welcoming Brian to the Boys of Summer as he is the new owner of the Fortuneville Magnets. Brian has been playing fantasy baseball for 15 years and has served as commish many of those seasons. He started playing Otto last season along with our very own Navy Street (Rob). Brian is currently currently in five leagues (now six), but only one of those are in Otto. Welcome Brian!

Hey Everyone...I would like to welcome Dillon to the Boys of Summer fantasy league. Dillon has been playing fantasy baseball for about 10 years; however, this is his first year playing Otto. Welcome Dillon and don't hesitate to post any questions on the board. We have a great group of guys in this league and all are willing to help out.
For the rest of the group. What are some words of wisdom you would like to pass onto Dillon. Cutting $1.00 players could be a good place to sta

Good points Poseylicious. I would still like to have two new owners who can come in and hopefully do what they can to improve their teams and be involved. As of this message, I'm communicating with one potential new owner and Navy Street has a friend who may be interested. Hopefully, we can get these teams filled this week.
-
The real question is did both the owners that are leaving pay their fee for the year? If so, then relatively little harm done. We could even wait until the off season to find new owners. Since this isn't a head to head league, absentee owners are not that detrimental and shouldn't hurt the gameplay too much
-
@Navy Street - Take a look at the message I sent. Thanks for this info.

@Fungoes - I work at a car dealership (finance manager) so yes I’m always angry lol. But no it’s just our software we only use capital letters. It’s just how it works in this business
-
I wanted to try my best at continuing to participate in the league, but after consideration, I felt that it was better for a more active person to take my place. Thank you so much for the enjoyable time, albeit small, and wish everyone the best. I apologize again for the abrupt leave.
-
Hi there, this is Fortuneville Magnets. I am so sorry for leaving the league without saying anything to the team members. I was really hyped for my first ever fantasy baseball league, and I wanted to be as active as I could. I even tried my best to stduy and participate in auctions and trades despite the vast time differences. Unfortunately, I felt that I couldn't be as active as I did during a few months ago.
-
Quite honestly, I agree and disagree with Hammers! Why would you join a league and bail after 5 weeks? So much can happen in the next 25 weeks, injuries, hot and cold streaks and players who find their groove. Way to early to abandon ship! On the other hand! Hammers, try to delineate from work to fun. You message came across as angry (which I can understand) but those who opted out can’t read your message, they’re gone. One last question for you, do you work in a hostile environment?

PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS, WHO FUCKING JOINS A LEAGUE LIKE THIS AND JUST BAILS SIX WEEKS INTO THE SEASON

I should have a guy Tim. Real life friend. Experience in otteneu (same amount of time as me). We are in multiple leagues together. Solid

So we in fact have two teams confirmed that need owners. I’ve reached out to a few guys to see if they’re interested, but if you know someone who might want to join, send me a message. I’ll sort through those interested. Thanks.

Hey Everyone.I want to let you know that Fortuneville Magnets has decided to resign from the league. Although he enjoyed the league and would have liked to stay, he thought it best to let someone with more time take it over. I'll let you know when I find a new owner. American History xFIP has not been on the site since April 14th. I emailed him yesterday and today, but as of this post, he has not responded. We may be in need of a second owner.
I hope you guys are enjoying the league.
