'Last Time Logged In' enforcement would look like this: If, in season, a team hasn't shown activity in 2 weeks/14 days, the league would attempt to make contact. Messages here, emails, etc. If there's no contact after a week (21 days in) the search for a new manager would begin.
-
Not sure what the meeting schedule is but i am strongly against any MiLB roster slots, I believe this should be managed with the 40 slots we have. I would argue for active ownership evidenced by last time logged into team. Set an expectation and if after time passes and commish cannot contact abandon team.
-
There's been enough interest in the stricter interpretation of Rule 1.a that we should vote on it.
Let's vote on proposals on Friday/tomorrow.
Does anyone have any other proposals for rules interpretations, settings changes, etc.?
-
If there is interest from a few of us in a 5MILB setup, I'd be happy to put it to a vote.
-
On N/A slots: There are leagues that use a '5MILB' rule and track dedicated minor league reserve rosters outside of Ottoneu. Niv is not a fan, because this breaks the economic structure of Ottoneu. These leagues are ineligible for OPL. Here's a recent post on the subject:
https://community.ottoneu.com/t/a-way-to-search-for-leagues-that-use-the-5-minor-leaguer-google-sheet-rule/10532/4
-
Winter Meetings: I'm good for whenever basically except Friday and Saturday nights. I do prefer Monday/Tuesday nights.
Rule 1a: I like it to be 22 MLB spots but per position. but I can go either way.
I would love N/A Spots to count like IR and not go against roster space

we're in for a wintery meeting.

Sorry for the late replies here y'all!

@Otto Three - I'm afraid you are too late. Steve Cohen owns the rights and I don't think he is willing to sell them.

Here's Niv's post on the lockout:
https://community.ottoneu.com/t/keeper-deadline-adjust-if-lockout-occurs/10611/3
Short version: the keeper deadline may be adjusted if the lockout is not resolved soon. In general, if the season is shortened, Niv will follow a similar approach to that of 2020. Check the post for details.
-
Not sure how this all gets resolved, but for now I am now considering changing my team name to Country Nose Hair.
-
The only thing that tweaks my nose hairs is a team that hasn't appeared for X (21-30?) number of days and the commish doesn't abandon the team. Based on what I've read so far, I don't think that will be an issue ... so my nose hairs are safe.
-
I am all for active owners, and I think that roster management is a key component to this. I am not sure what type of penalties for non-compliance would look like though.
-
i also wanted to address that i was kinda part of the problem for fielding a team that would infringe on the rule this summer, especially with bregman begin injured for nearly half the year, out of my control with payroll and not intentional. i learned some stuff and had a really good back part of the season
-
also ive updated my tradeblock and im in for the stricter interpretation. i think it sets it up to be more like an actual team

the lockout hits the season?

What is the game plan if
-
I agree that rule 1.a is a bigger deal in H2H, and I'm not inclined to get pushy about lineups.
I will take ignoring 1.a as an early warning that a manager has checked out. Last year's bottom two teams had inactive players and/or minor leaguers in their starting lineups for a chunk of the season and then bailed, which has left pretty big hills for Metes and Bounds and Chicago Whales to climb.
-
That's a good idea. I've updated my trade block.
Also, it looks like messages are still getting cut off. I suggest a max of ~300 characters per. The cutoff is somewhere between 300 and 400.
-
I'm okay either way on the lineup rule. I think that's more important in a H2H league than it is in a season long points league. You can't have a guy tanking and loading up on prospects, it ruins the competitive balance in H2H.
I would also suggest everyone update their trading block and mark it "Winter Meeting" so we know who is actively participating in this.
-
My initial thought is this: The more lenient approach (just have enough MLB players to fill starting lineups, healthy or injured) is the default. If we don't choose another approach, that's what we'll enforce.
If there's an appetite for the stricter approach, or something like it, we can discuss it and put it to a vote.
Let me know what you think.

The point of the first, more lenient interpretation is to comply with the letter of the rule, and to prevent prospect hoarding.
The point of the second, more strict interpretation is to have every team roster enough backups to cope with injuries and field a competitive lineup throughout the season.

One thing I want to be sure we discuss is what the league's interpretation of Rule 1.a should be.
The rule states:"Each team shall during the regular season maintain a roster of 22 major-league players that can fill out a starting lineup as defined below."
Some leagues interpret this to mean you need at least one MLB player per lineup slot (with enough position eligibility to fill each slot).
Other leagues go further and require enough MLB players to fi

We previously discussed holding Winter Meetings for Did It All For The Rookies from the 11th through the 14th of this month, between tonight's college football championship game and the start of NFL playoffs this weekend.
The point of winter meetings is to a) have everybody back in touch for a possible last round of trades before the keeper deadline, and b) discuss rule interpretations, settings changes, etc. before the keeper deadline.

So: right now we don't need to match $ values in trades the way we do in the regular season. And I expect we'll collectively end up trading for some players we eventually cut, as our rosters change shape in the run up to the keeper deadline.

Yes, we all have to get our rosters under the $400 cap with at least $1 to spare per open roster spot by the keeper deadline, January 31st.
So yes, lots of cuts are coming.
Meanwhile, between the end of arbitration (11/15, already over) and the keeper deadline we can trade as much as we like without worrying about the cap.

help me out here. last year was my first year at this. i see most teams are WELL over hte 400$ cap. does that mean there will be a ton of painful cuts coming up soon? at this point we can make trades, but we'll all still be over the cap. what should we expect during the off-season?
-
Going for it last year left me with a roster that makes me go 'Hmmm.' I'm rebuilding, so almost everyone is available. I'm not concerned with specific positions right now.

Thanks everyone for participating fully in arbitration - all $300 arbitration dollars were applied across the league.
On the Arb Results page everyone's individual allocations are now visible. So you can see who added $$ to your players.
With arbitration results in and increases applied, trading is open again. Please update your trade block!

No sweat, Rookie Betts!
We've all got two weeks to finish arbitration - I just didn't want to see you be the only team that absorbed increases but didn't hand any out.

Sorry guys that’s on me, turned off email notifications and I slipped. I’ll allocate $$ money tomorrow and Wednesday.

Arbitration halfway point update:
Everybody except Rookie Betts has taken a pass at allocating their arbitration dollars. I'll get in touch with Rookie Betts in the next couple days.
Meanwhile, you can take a look at the arbitration results so far here:

And you can change allocations as you see fit through the 15th.

Friday update:
11 teams have completed a run at allocating arbitration, and 112 players across the league have tentative salary increases attached, including at least 7 players from every team.
Jump in Rookie Betts, the water's fine.

The NCAA football championship game is on Monday, January 10th; NFL playoffs start Saturday the 15th.
If we conduct meetings by asynchronous messages, that Tuesday-Friday between (the 11th-14th) would work.
If you want a live chat session, we could do that the weekend of the 8th and 9th.
Other dates can work for sure; I'm wary of going into December due to holiday travel.
Anybody got a big conflict during the second week of January?

I like the winter meetings idea. Sometime late December or early January?
-
Ah, league message board messages are getting cut off.
Please let me know what you think of winter meetings, if/when they should be, and what you'd like to discuss. Some things are fixed by the Ottoneu setup (like game and innings limits) while others are up to league discretion.
The end goal of all discussion is for the league to be an enjoyable thing worth coming back to for 2022 and beyond.
-
Tuesday update:
8 teams have completed a run at allocating arbitration, and 100 players across the league have tentative salary increases attached, including at least 6 players from every team.
Also: I'd like to hold winter meetings for the league, after the holidays. Early-mid January. This would be a time to discuss rule interpretations (what do we think comprises a 'legal roster') and consider settings changes as a league, before the keeper deadline on January 31st.<
