If the player you cut gets auctioned and goes to another team, you get all of your money back. For example, Kyle Hendricks was just auctioned, so I got the rest of my $16 back ($8 when I cut him, and $8 when Rookie Betts won him at auction).
-
2. Some of us are holding pretty expensive players who aren't playing anytime soon. Friendly reminder: If you cut someone, you get half their salary back, rounded down. For example, I cut an $11 Gary Sanchez recently, and got $5 in cap space back immediately. ($1 player cuts don't get any cap space back.)
-
A couple things I noticed as I look at rosters for potential trades:
1. Most of us aren't making use of IL and MINORS slots on our lineup pages. These are just specially labeled bench spots. You can put anyone in them AFAIK. Very helpful in separating active players from the rest.
-
Lynch yikes indeed.
-
Lynch. Yikes.
-
I .... did not expect to win MadBum for $4. He's my SP6 for now, and available on my trade block.
-
Have you seen the pitching bench I drafted? I am obviously quite capable of knocking myself off in this league without any help. 10th place, here I come :-)
-
All part of the master plan, Otto Three. The more we can spread your attention, the greater odds that we have of knocking you off in the this league. :-)
-
Damn you Voitron! I do not have the time to participate in yet another league. No way. So obviously, I just signed up for that new league you mentioned.
-
PSA: There is another new Ottoneu baseball league ($20, 5x5 scoring) forming now. I don't know the commissioner, just got an alert on his post in the community thread that resulted in this league.
-
Bonus note:
- Stacked at OF looking for pitchers of any kind right now, open to trade
-
Couple of things lads:
- I’m at the Diamondbacks v. Rockies game right now (really wish Blackmon would rip a dinger right now)
- I’m 100% down for Ottoneu football if we’ve got some significant money at stake
- I know my team is at a slow start so far but just wait till Judge and Stanton start their 60HR season each run very shortly
-
I'm a Seahawks fan. Guessing there are a few other Hawks fans in this league.. This draft isnt nearly as exciting to us :-). Lets definitely circle on getting a football league later this summer. For now, encourage you all to update your trading block and start talking trades. All Nations and I broke the ice with the first deal of the season.
-
Oh, definitely closer. Like I said earlier, I only brought it up in conjunction of the Draft hype. This class could really be fun to watch too.
-
Definitely interested in Ottoneu Football. Strong preference for a draft that is closer to the season start though.
-
would be interested in Ottoneu Football if everyone wants in. Thanks.
-
....and by no means do I want to take away from the baseball experience, as this has been really cool. I only bring it up now since it's Draft day . No one has to decide for a few months.
-
I've never played myself. I used to be commish in a long standing (regular type league) but my work schedule is not conducive any more. Here are the rules: https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/football/help/rules
-
Put me down as a strong 'maybe' for football. Fantasy football draft season overlaps with my favorite part of the baseball season, so I've never played before.
-
I have not played Ottoneu football, but i am hooked on 4 weeks of baseball. I would be in.
-
I know nothing about ottoneu football, but I see on that scroll at the top of the page sometimes that college players are being added to ottoneu rosters even before they are ever drafted. All I needed to see. I'm in.
-
Happy Mel Kiper Jr Day. In honor of NFL Draft tonight, is anyone here thinking about starting a football league? Might be kinda cool to do it all together? Just a thought.
-
Not regretting how much I paid for Vladdy tonight
-
And we're rolling.
Heck of an opening day for All Nations - 73 points from Desclafani and they take the early lead.
Silent auctions are happening. They are Vickrey auctions. Message board if you have questions.
Please update your Trading Block to get deal chatter going. (I need an OF, btw). There is also a messaging function (click on the inbox icon) if you want talk up another owner re: trades, old-fashioned recipes, etc

Re: Batters and positions
Their start gets attributed to the count for the fantasy position they are in, not for their real position.
As Otto 3 outlined, once a player in your starting lineup enters game in any way it will count against the that position. If you wish to avoid this, there is a toggle button on your lineups page that when enabled will automatically bench anyone on your team who is not in your starting lineup.
-
If a batter on your active roster gets in the game in any way, it counts as a game played for your team at whatever slot you have him rostered at. For example, a guy in one of your OF spots gets put in as a late inning defensive sub. He never bats, or fields a ball, it still counts as a game played for you.
-
Also, I know that pitchers need to be in their real life position (SP in SP, RP in RP) to accrue stats. But what about batters? Does a multi-position eligible guy need to be in his real life starting position?
-
If there's a player in a spot, ?(say the UTIL) spot, but he doesn't start that day in real life, does that count as a game against the quota? Would it only count if he entered the game and accrued a stat?
-
Here we go!
There's no weekly SP start limit. There is a season-long IP limit of 1500. It gets tracked on your lineup page.
-
First game kicks off at 12:10 CST - Royals vs. Tigers!
Feels like opening day all over again!
-
Pitcher Starts limit - Is it 7 per week?
-
Highlight of the draft was the guy that thought he stole Wander Franco for a dollar. But the jokes on me, because that guy's roster looks better than mine does.
-
Good draft everyone! Reading the messages - er at least trying to since things went so fast. I do think we could have a really good league and stay together. I say that since most of us are rooks and "learning" together. The last league I was in was together for somewhere between 19-21 years (depends on who ya ask). Some great camaraderie was had. Obviously when you're together that long, there's also gonna be some heated rivalries. Let's be civil and work together to build a good leag
-
A couple last minute items:
1. Staying with season-long scoring. Can revisit the topic in the off-season.
2. Great overview of auction draft site operations: https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/the-ottoneu-auction-draft/
3. Thanks for sharing on the 4 q's. We've got a great cross-section of baseball fans and a good vibe starting. Seeing Hank Aaron play....how cool is that!
-
1. Home state: Born and Raised in So. California now in the PNW.
2. Favorite MLB team: Dodgers
3. Beverage of choice: Old Fashion
4. Baseball fun fact: Went to St. John Bosco with Evan Longoria
-
I prefer season long as well.
One of the major downsides to fantasy football is if you score the 2nd-highest in the league but just happen to play the top scorer - you still lose. That being said, I won't quit the league or anything if we do H2H.
-
1. Home state: Florida
2. Favorite MLB team Mets & Padres
3. Beverage of choice: Beer
4. Baseball fun fact: Old enough to see Hank Aaron play (I was 7). Worked on the Rays Grounds Crew from 2006-2011.
-
I also prefer season-long, in general, and for one key reason right now: COVID. Sudden COVID outbreaks and game postponements make it easy to lose H2H matchups, even if the players one rosters don't go on the IL.
Season-long keeps the loss of a Soto or deGrom for a week from having a long term impact on the standings.
-
I perfer points over H2H.
-
RE: H2H versus season-long. Are there others who have a strong opinion one way or the other? Note the scoring system (and player values are the same).
Its just a matter of whether the winner is based on cumulative points over the entirety of the season or based on "wins" in weekly matchups.
Good thread on h2h benefits and drawbacks. https://community.ottoneu.com/t/ottoneu-head-to-head/44

I was hoping for true Fangraph League of H2H.

ACC - Re: league format. We are rotisserie-style, not h2h. So, cumulative stats over the course of the season will determine the winner. Little bit different vibe than h2h. Hope that helps.
-
1. California (now DC)
2. Dodgers
3. Bourbon
4. Been to 15 of the 30 MLB stadiums
-
Other league is Fangraph scoring also.
-
