I'm very much with Bauer on this one - something needed to be done. But the league pivoting from "nothing this year" to a knee-jerk decision made without warning, and without much thought is likely going to have bad effects. He posted a video yesterday where he made a baseball stick to his unclenched hand using only rosin, and asked "Is this sticky? Would I get suspended for this?" Valid questions, especially since "sticky" is an umpire's discretion and likely won't

Along with the warmer temperatures, it definitely should. I'm more intrigued and very concerned that Glasnow's comments are accurate and we see a host of UCL injuries. According to the new fangraphs article on the rule change, the muscles that support the UCL are used in gripping, and with no substances allowed, most pitchers are going to need to change their grip, in some form.

What does everyone think about the MLB announcement on sticky stuff? Is offense going to rise and pitching drop off for a couple weeks?

Can’t believe Flaherty was injured last night…

Adam Hasely has returned. I can't start the bidding, but... if anyone else wants too...

Hopefully Yelich comes back strong, and I don't regret the move - counting heavily on the waiver additions of Cutch and Pham to make up for the loss of Castellanos on my end.

We're $50, definitely in for the year is in for the year.
-
Just to chime in, I think I agree most of what was said. A few points:
- I generally do believe in "you paid, you're in", warts and all
- Blue Jays' points around dynasty/keeper leagues needing a bit less leeway is also true
- The league is very low stakes ($20, right?) so I don't think the money is much of an issue
- This being my first/only league of strangers, there can be points made to both give extra wiggle room, or be stricter
Long winded way

You all raise good points on replacing or not replacing inactive or less attentive owners. I just wanted to take the temperature here and see what everyone thinks.

Blue Jays on

- General point: Ottoneu is not a format that does well with abandoned teams. Non-redraft leagues in general require activity (to maintain competitive balance over time), and many Ottoneu specific features (for example, arbitration) require some level of participation to work (but again, not a high degree of participation).
Blue Jays on
May 14, 2021 12:56 PM

- Ottoneu is dyasty-esque. The expectation is that teams are coming back each year, and teams have the option/ability to construct their roster as they see fit, including rebuilding/retooling for next year if they aren't currently competitive (i.e. it's not a redraft league). It wouldn't be fair to have a vote out system or relegation (unless agreed to by all beforehand).

Thanks guys. Just to clarify a few points:
- Of course people are free to set and forget their lineups and aren't required to check their teams at a certain frequency. Teams do have to make sure that their roster is not in an illegal state (i.e. not over the cap or over the roster limits). This was my initial concern with Gen K.

I think it be a bit much to axe somebody mid season let alone may. I agree with they paid its their squad aspect lets give em the benefit of the doubt. If later on we want to treat it like survivor or soccer tables where we relegate owners im all for it. Ps not too worried about the collusion as we could always open it up to the boards. fairly good community easy to check a profile and see if their a smurf account for collusion.
-
I don't think you can ever completely avoid collusion - but I can agree that owners deserve a little leeway. If I'm traveling, I still have my phone in my hand every morning setting lineups - but that is my choice. Owners paid to be here, should be able to be as active or inactive as they choose - and the league can vote them out end of season if its a problem for the league
-
My attitude here is that people pay good money to participate. If they want to set their team and forget it, that's on them. Maybe you don't renew them for next year. But you would need to refund their money otherwise. I would be hesitant to make changes in midseason. This also raises issues of collusion too. How do we know the replacement owner is legit? Just some things to consider. I may be traveling later this season and not be available to change my lineup much.

Well I don't want to be too quick to replace someone (understanding that sometimes things happen). But in terms of protocol re timing, I figure that a month without any response/invalid roster/etc. is a reasonable time to find a replacement. (It hasn't been quite that long yet for Gen K).

Great deals to be had on the waiver wire! Hunter Dozier is heating up, and he's out there for only $4! Nomar Mazara back healthy, only a $1 Bid will take him! Not to mention Jimmy Nelson or Emilio Pagan for those cheap, quality RP innings! (I have a million dollars in Cap Penalties because I make too many quick decisions for this format...)

Thanks for the research! Will be interesting to see the evolution of the bottom end here - both with Pitchers (as relievers take on more innings and the top SPs separate themselves even further from the pack) and with hitters (as the high variance of the "3-true outcomes" neutralize the lower end of hitters in this system)

Just realized on a rate basis, no reason not to include 2020...

Great question. I was curious, so I investigated. For simplicity purposes, I took the top 180 hitters (15 per team), top 72 RPs (6 per team), and 84 SPs (7 per team). RP was anyone with < 5 GS, and SP was anyone with 5+ GS and > 4 IP/GS. I'm doubtful this text will copy/paste cleanly, but I'll give it a try:
Offense:
Season PPG.0% PPG.25% PPG.50% PPG.75% PPG.100%
1 2018 3.46 4.32 4.89 5.75 9.27
2 2019 3.59 4.

Good question, im just not the one who can answer that.

At the end of the year, what does a replacement level player look like in this score setting? 4 p/g for hitters, 5 p/ip for pitchers? Something like that?
-
I'm looking for a MI upgrade. Not looking to get too crazy with a trade, since I'm not sure exactly how down I am on Biggio, but he's available as well as some SP (Urquidy, Maeda, Eflin) and OF (Margo, Eaton, Nimmo). Always willing to talk anyone though.
