The FOD game is going to be pretty cool - sorry it didn't work out for Rizzo. The "business" aspect of baseball is tough on players, but it hits fans pretty hard sometimes too. I feel like the 2016 Cubs were poised to take over the world, but 5 years later it looks a lot differently. Baseball is hard.
-
I'm a die hard Yanks fan who moved to Chicago 10 years ago, adopted the Cubs as team #2. My recent wife is a die hard Cubs fan, was not happy when Rizzo got traded. Her family is from Dyersville and we were trying to get to the Field of Dreams game, but didn't get it, but have tickets to both Sox/Yanks games in Chicago next week. Damn, Rizzo on the IL is a real bummer. Sucks for Rizzo to miss the FOD game, but miss his last hurrah in Chicago...weak.

Laureano just got whacked with an 80-game suspension, which is a big blow to my team. I've made a couple attempts at a few OF's in the last week, but they were all rejected without comment, so I'm not sure where to go from there. If anyone has an OF to spare and wants to send me an offer, I'd be much obliged.
-
I’m looking to move Gallo (or another OF), ideally for 2B or SP if anyone is interested.

I had too many Phillies pitchers before the trade deadline. Two of my non-Phillies pitchers were traded to the Phillies. ... though one of my Phillies pitches was moved away in the deal... Seems like an odd strategy
-
Just updated my trade block. Have veterans and cap space to move to contenders. Want cheap prospects or young starters back.

Welp. I don't know what the timeline is for ACL, but if anyone is interested in Acuna for the future, feel free to make me an offer.

Same as what Rearden said, but didn’t notice until just now. Mostly from 7/4, but a few from 7/5. Missed both BJ & QC’s messages (as well as auctions/drops). I’ve gotten today’s messages though.

For some reason I got a bunch of messages pushed to my spam folder this weekend, but then they resumed coming as normal a day or so ago - not sure what that was about

Seems to be working still for me.

Ditto, what Queen City said. If you want cap space, let me know a possible trade. I am also open for trades for players that can help you win in the short-term. At this point, I don't know if I can get into the top four spots.

I have $60+ in cap space and am willing to loan cap space in exchange for players. Make me an offer if you are a front runner seeking salary cap relief.

49 from Nola on Friday, 63 from Gibson on Saturday, and 51 from Wheeler Sunday closed out the week strong, but I still had no shot until Cole got dinged. At one point earlier Sunday it was a 1 point spread - strange how the chip fall sometimes. Good competitive season so far!
-
I was up like 150 its on Rearden coming into Sat. Top notch 60-something point performance from K Gibson, and then Gerritt Cole gives up two HRs in the first inning on Sunday...goddammn. Well played, brotha.
-
Almost doubling the next closest in saves here, anyone looking to upgrade their bullpen please inquire within.

I am not sure I can make the playoffs, given that it is 4 teams. I have had some awful points luck! That said, I am willing to explore some deals for those that are buyers.

I had the same initial reaction to Glasnow, Readen. After some further though, I've moved to the "change is needed, but mid season is not the time" camp. At the end of the day, we're all just speculating anyway. Will be interesting to see how this change manifests - maybe it ends up being as (non)consequential as the mound visit limits...
-
I hear that, but it's basically been tacitly accepted by MLB. It's sorta like speeding, nearly everyone drives 70 in a 65, if all of a sudden speed limits were strictly enforced, it would change most of our driving behaviors fairly drastically.
-
Very much agree with the uptick in injuries - asking players to change midseason is a little crazy - but to play devil's advocate; MLB is not changing the rule, they are just establishing more rigorous enforcement. You could look at it from this perspective: Glasnow came out and admitted to cheating and then said he got hurt because the MLB warned him that he would actually get in trouble for the cheating behavior he feels entitled to exhibit, so he tried to stop cheating...
-
Oh, and I bet we see a rise in offense due to a rise in meatballs. And probably some more pitcher injuries.
-
More injuries for pitchers, more hit batters and more offense for sure. I don't expect us to go back to 2019 offense. But should be a good uptick. I think guys with good stuff will still be good pitchers. My two cents...

I'm very much with Bauer on this one - something needed to be done. But the league pivoting from "nothing this year" to a knee-jerk decision made without warning, and without much thought is likely going to have bad effects. He posted a video yesterday where he made a baseball stick to his unclenched hand using only rosin, and asked "Is this sticky? Would I get suspended for this?" Valid questions, especially since "sticky" is an umpire's discretion and likely won't
-
Along with the warmer temperatures, it definitely should. I'm more intrigued and very concerned that Glasnow's comments are accurate and we see a host of UCL injuries. According to the new fangraphs article on the rule change, the muscles that support the UCL are used in gripping, and with no substances allowed, most pitchers are going to need to change their grip, in some form.
-
What does everyone think about the MLB announcement on sticky stuff? Is offense going to rise and pitching drop off for a couple weeks?

Hopefully Yelich comes back strong, and I don't regret the move - counting heavily on the waiver additions of Cutch and Pham to make up for the loss of Castellanos on my end.

We're $50, definitely in for the year is in for the year.
-
Just to chime in, I think I agree most of what was said. A few points:
- I generally do believe in "you paid, you're in", warts and all
- Blue Jays' points around dynasty/keeper leagues needing a bit less leeway is also true
- The league is very low stakes ($20, right?) so I don't think the money is much of an issue
- This being my first/only league of strangers, there can be points made to both give extra wiggle room, or be stricter
Long winded way
-
You all raise good points on replacing or not replacing inactive or less attentive owners. I just wanted to take the temperature here and see what everyone thinks.

- General point: Ottoneu is not a format that does well with abandoned teams. Non-redraft leagues in general require activity (to maintain competitive balance over time), and many Ottoneu specific features (for example, arbitration) require some level of participation to work (but again, not a high degree of participation).
Blue Jays on

- Ottoneu is dyasty-esque. The expectation is that teams are coming back each year, and teams have the option/ability to construct their roster as they see fit, including rebuilding/retooling for next year if they aren't currently competitive (i.e. it's not a redraft league). It wouldn't be fair to have a vote out system or relegation (unless agreed to by all beforehand).

Thanks guys. Just to clarify a few points:
- Of course people are free to set and forget their lineups and aren't required to check their teams at a certain frequency. Teams do have to make sure that their roster is not in an illegal state (i.e. not over the cap or over the roster limits). This was my initial concern with Gen K.
