I am totally fine keeping slow draft. Anyone who wants a live draft can always get sucked into the black hole of other ottoneu leagues. :D
Assuming regular season, we will have to figure out when to start it in order to get done on time. But that won’t be until March anyway so we have time.
-
i def prefer the slow draft on couchmanagers. i think last years worked well. live drafts are so hard to schedule with 12 people spread out amongst diff time zones. for example i work a weird shift where i go in around 4am est so im usually in bed by 8pm most nights.
-
I liked the slow draft. Not sure what everyone's time zone is for a live draft but I'm open to whatever the group decides.
-
I did a live draft in another ottoneu league, it was a lot of fun, but draining. An auction with just free agents won’t take nearly as long though
-
Yes. That would seal it as continuing down one matchup per week for this year. But in this process we have a good start in the 9/12 for future voting issues.
The next step, I suspect, will eventually be if we want to try and find a live draft date that works. I actually enjoyed the slow draft process but if we can get a time when everyone can live draft then that could be fun too.
But for now, I’ll just remind everyone to pay league dues on the dashboard and make cuts
-
At least for this season
-
So four one votes pretty well seals it right?

I just got here, so ill abstain for now. not really sure what I want really so i'm fine with whatever the league chooses

Sure thing. Please reply here on the public board if you want to change to (TWO) matchups per week or if you want to stay with (ONE) matchup per week. Just send a TWO or a ONE and we will consider you voted.
-
What if we have a formal vote? Looks like most gm's have been online the last couple days.
-
It sounds like the discussion revolves around changing to two matchups for the same scoring period. Sounds like 9/12 would need to approve for next year. I’m not really tracking votes but it sounds informally like it’s more likely we end up staying 1 matchup for the upcoming season.
-
Couple things. (1) I changed the draft date just so it wouldn’t be Feb 1. That date is not correct. We will vote on a date at later time (or vote to slow draft again). (2) I am pretty sure I can’t change settings for 5 day week games. (3) the setting I can change potentially is the number of opponents you face per week (going from 1 to 2).
-
Was this discussion about having 2 scoring periods per week with 2 different opponents or still keeping one scoring period (a full week) but just having 2 opponents at the same time? If the former, I say no. If the later, then I'm good with that. 9/12 is also fine.

As far as five day matchups go, the only real hurdles I can see is that you are going to have some matchups where your best pitchers don’t get starts. You also run into the problem that realistically a big chunk of your matchups are going to be 4 games, since usually every team is off one day, so you’re only getting 14 to 16 at bats per hitter instead of 22 - 26. That opens the door for a lot of matchups to be based on luck instead of roster strength. More like football than baseball.

Thumbs up for 9/12 vote and single season.
I've always wondered how a year of 5 day matchups would fair vs the 7 day standard. Having 4 matches in 20 days vs 3 matches in 21 days, and then having a 2 week playoff series for semis and finals, instead of the usual 1. Other than the minimal Monday games every week, I don't see any drawbacks and am interested to hear other perspectives.
Anyone hear or participate in a league like that?
-
So it is possible that a lockout or shortened season could extend the upcoming keeper deadline (though I think payment might stay the same?). Anyway, more info from the dude who runs ottoneu here: https://community.ottoneu.com/t/keeper-deadline-adjust-if-lockout-occurs/10611/3

I agree with 9/12 and I am also on the side of keeping it at 1 match-up per week.
-
To the Commish's point, I think that's fair for any new changes to be approved. I think there's valid points on both sides of this one. It's just a matter of what we want as a league. From what the other managers have stated, might be a good idea to stay status quo for now on this.
-
So I am the one that suggested more games in a given week. I’m not totally sure I’m good enough to know when I wouldn’t just pitch all my best players. I liked the idea of removing the variance as I had a really unlucky stretch. However I get how that could feel like you might as well be playing points (I disagree but not to an extent it’s worth it). I have no problem how ever you decide to move forth with the rule. I just like multiple games a week this isn’t football schedule should be bigger
-
I concur. 1 per week is best until we can figure out how to deal with what Hub City brought up

For what it’s worth, I lean toward single matchups for reasons mentioned. Part of what I like about H2H is the variance and the decision making on SP sometimes. The more matchups you do, the closer you get toward just regular season points fangraphs. Obviously 2 isn’t a huge change for that, but I still lean 1 as my personal preference. I’m open to the change if enough people want it though.
-
As a new commish (and somewhat relating to this issue), I feel like maybe we should have a set number who have to agree on something for it to result in a change. I lean toward 9/12 owners wanting a change to make it official because that puts a pretty high bar. There aren’t many changes we could realistically make, but I still think we should have a bar to clear. Does anyone not think 9/12 is a fair line for me to set before we made changes to matchups, playoffs, or league fees, etc?
-
The only issue I can see is that there might be a week where with one matchup I might start or sit a pitcher based on the score of my matchup, but if I’m behind in one game and ahead in another that decision isn’t really a decision anymore, you’re just stuck starting the guy and hoping. I’m generally in favor of more decision making, not less. That said if six or seven other teams want to make that change I certainly wouldn’t argue.
-
Yeah this is to have a bit more consistency as there could easily be a team that is #2 in total points, but 0-4 in the standings because he has MOST points against. Kn the flip side of things another team is last in total points, but 3-1 in the standings because he has FEWEST points against.
Just something worth talking about I think. I'm good either way but would like to hear other teams thought on this.
-
I know I asked this before, but what are the benefits of the extra game a week? Just variance mitigation?
-
Quick question I had, someone last year had mentioned maybe playing two games a week instead of one. Is that still something to consider?
-
Happy new year everybody

Happy New Year!
-
For those who haven’t paid yet…from your ottoneu Dashboard, scroll to the far right and click on “Extend Your Dynasty.” That will let you pay for the upcoming year.
Remember that cut deadline and payment due date are both Jan 31!
Happy New Year!
-
Happy New Year to each and everyone of you!!! Wishing everyone all the best in 2022!
Cheers!!!
-
I have heard from Betts, and he’s still in for next year, so it looks like our league is set for year 2. Reminder that the cut deadline is Jan 31st but that’s also the deadline for renewing your team (aka pay your dues by then). Happy holidays to everyone!

Oh ya - Everyone should beat me. Advice - don't punt on SP's

Lol. Welcome to the new owner of Fili Kili. I see he already made a post trash talking so he should fit right in!
-
hey everyone, fili and kili here, soon to be something different than whatever that name is...thanks for having me. my only goal is to do better than Chicobrew, but based on his record, that shouldn't be hard
-
I think they’ll get something done by mid February/early March. They still have lost revenue from 2020 to make up for.
-
Hopefully this work stoppage doesn't affect the ball season. I'm already looking forward to next season and it would be a shame to see it go to waste. With all of this cash flowing around in the early stages of FA, this doesn't surprise me at all. #letsplayball
-
thanks for info
-
I don’t know when they add them but there’s a forum thread where you can request players. I think the link to it is on the support page. Who are you looking at adding?
-
When does Ottoneu perform player additions? I am looking for a couple players which aren't in the player database.
-
Yeah sometimes you just gotta make the call when you realize you’re in too many leagues. I don’t think Fili or Shore were unhappy with the league. They just had other leagues they were more entrenched in. Makes sense since this is the newest. Also they left behind two pretty good teams so it wasn’t for lacking talent!
-
Wow I'm surprised to hear that the old commish is out already after one season. Really confused how someone would start a keeper league and leave after one season but I guess it's best if he can't or won't be active. We had a great first season with a lot of activity. I'm sure we can keep it going with the two new managers. I know Balls Deep is a great addition to our league.
-
Hey all, Fili & Kili has let me know that he will be leaving as well. I have reached out to the person Chico recommended, and he seems pretty interested. So while we are losing a couple managers (unfortunately), so far we have been able to find quick replacements (fortunately). New owner said he needs a few days before he can likely take over, but we are set up to still be good to go through a smooth off-season. Thanks to Brew and Chico for finding some quick replacements!
-
Hey all, welcome to Jamie is going to be taking over the Shorebirds team (new name TBD, I suppose). IF anyone else doesn't end up renewing for next year, then chico's guy will be our next in line. Hopefully we still have some excitement in terms of trades and such over the next couple months, but by Feb 1 we will all know who is available at this year's auction and what budget constraints teams will have. Looking forward to continuing our fun offseason!
