So I hope the 2 teams in the deGrom trade feel good, nice competitive balance
-
Sent a few trade offers out. Hopefully this new trade market works in my favor as well!

There has been quite a bit of discussion around the recent Kirk for DeGromm trade. For those that have reached out to me, you do have the ability to veto the trade if you have an issue with it. If you wish to do that and don't know how, you can contact me. As commissioner, I will not be individually vetoing trades. I made that pretty clear earlier in the season and won't walk that back. The only way a trade can be vetoed is by 8 owners voting to do so.
-
It was a good move for both sides - it's hard to have any player on your roster not named Trout over $60. Roster construction just gets too hard with the depth you'll need.
-
I know! I expect nothing less.

But also, I'll have to cut him at EOY. So, he'll be a FA, to someone's long-term benefit.
-
Well, my last blockbuster trade netted me..............a $50 player who has been on the IL for over a month. Hopefully this one works out a little better.

No problem - it was a good question.

Nice work Capa and Big Gibby.
-
Fair! Thanks for looking into it

The rule you stated explicitly mentions the death of a player – not a player who potentially will never play again. There are several players within the database that one could start an auction for that haven’t played in MLB in years and conceivably won’t play again. I don’t want to make exceptions to rules that are current written. If the league feels strongly about this, we can revisit in the offseason and make a new rule. Thanks!
-
Hey Gibby – I consulted with Niv on Slack yesterday. I had not run into this request before, so I wanted to get a little background. After that conversation, I concluded that it would not be appropriate to waive the penalty rule in the case of retired players. As Niv pointed out when we draft a player, we take on all of their risks – injury, demotion, going over to Japan to play, and yes, retirement.
-
Hey commish, can I get a ruling on what happens to Jay Bruce? My personal feeling is that he should be cut for no penalty, since there's already a rule that players who will never play again (i.e., who die) are automatically cut, and since in the real world, retirement ends your salary claim. I am, however, happy to put it to a vote and clarify the rules going forward either way.
-
Hoping Joc gets it together and is worth the $17
-
I was really hoping Pederson would pass through waivers.
-
Nice trade gentlemen
-
And Keston; also hurting me, lol.
-
Looking to trade Musgrove; I think I have the pitcher depth to not take too much of a hit, but need some infielders. Freaking Moncada.......
-
Other way around! Pay me a dollar for this beautiful one-time top 50 prospect reliever with a projected FIP under 4.
(just don't look at this game stats from this year)
-
As in, you give me a dollar to take Matt W.?
-
Would anybody like Matt Wisler for a buck in loan?
-
Folks, if it hasn't become clear to you already, Aaron Hicks is very much available -- somebody trade me something cheap and replacement value and get him out of my life already
-
Alright everyone, here's the link to the Slack channel. Should be much easier to flow and discuss different topics there. I've found that these have been great for league longevity!

Capa, can we call you the Kommissar? I love it, setting clear standards early.
-
Thanks again Commish and I will do better. Getting some sleep will help. sorry for the drama
-
If you have any additional questions, happy to help. You (or anyone else) can DM me at any time. Thanks

To pick up a player, you start an auction. If you start an auction on a player, the bid is automaticly $1. You can bid more than $1 if you would like. The winning team is the one who bids the most money. The salary for that player is set at $1 over the next highest bid. So, if you bid $20 for Player A and another team bids $3 for that player, you will win the bid an the player's salary will be set at $4. If the bids are a tie, the tie goes to the lower team in the standings.
-
Got it. I am old but will catch on to the new fangled ways of 2021
-
If someone picks up that player at anytime, your penalty goes away. The penalty is always half of the players salary, rouned up. For instance, a $1 player will have a $1 penalty. A $3 players will have a $2 penalty. It is very common in Ottoneu for teams to have multiple penalties throughout the year. One of the keys to this game is managing that.
-
I gotta get off the espresso and meditate:)
-
The rules section is pretty well organized. Also, the community forum has instructions about picking-up/dropping off players. There is also a few YouTube tutorials.
-
All teams are limited to $400 total to have on their roster at any point. Any player on your roster counts towards that cap. When you drop a player, half of his salary remains as a penalty against your cap. For example, if you drop a $10 player, you will have a $5 penalty. Essentially your cap is now only $395. You can reacution that player in 30 days. If no one else takes him, you can drop him again and cut your penalty in half.
-
Hehehe, I had a minor meltdown when I realized Catchers can only accumulate 162 scored games total. I wasted good draft money on a completely unnecessary 3rd catcher.
-
Looks like I might some bids in this salary range so that will help. Life is a bitch sometimes but no need to take it out on innocent folks just trying to have fun playing a game. My bad
-
I'll stay and should have read the rules. nobody's fault but my own. In too many leagues with multiple format. I thought we had a 100 dollars worth to buy free agents for a year. I cut Franco as punishment and now I have 10 bucks for 5 players which is fine. My apologies for the outburst and I will be subdued from now on. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO PROPERLY PICK UP PLAYERS as I seem to have no clue. Thank You
-
Nice job Commish, well said

100% in agreement commish. Well said.

Please let us know TODAY if you wish to continue. If we don't hear from you I will assume you are done. I already have an owner lined up to take your spot.
-
If you want to quit – go ahead. I am not going to have anyone hold the rest of us at their will because they didn’t read the rules. Gibby made a mistake in the draft on Happ…he didn’t throw a fit, he lived with it & made trades to fix it. You are $2 over the cap. You dropped 5 players who won’t have a material impact on your results. Re-auction them in 30 days.. If they get picked up, your penalty is gone. If you can’t adjust to overcome that, then maybe Ottoneu isn't the place for
-
With that said, I am not going to set a precedent of reversing transactions. I don’t want to put myself in a position of having to be a judge over whether one reason is better than another to reverse a transaction. The ONLY instance I will ever reverse a transaction is if an owner contacts me within 2 minutes of making a trade telling me they hit the wrong button. 2 minutes….
-
My goal is for this league to continue for the foreseeable future. I am committed as commissioner to replacing owners who choose not to move forward after every season. In my experience in Ottoneu, these are the leagues that survive.
-
Yea these leagues work a bit different than most sites. There definitely is a learning curve. Dont know if getting upset and demanding your mistakes fixed or you will quit is the best way to handle it but I am sure the commish can help out if the rest of the league is ok with it.

REVERSE ALL MY MOVES AND BIDS OR I AM OUT! I need to reread the rules
-
just give me my drafted team back or it will screw up the league. I will just not make moves as this is assinine
-
Big gibby--your post meant nothing--time to find another owner
-
Reverse all my moves and bids i guess as i do not understand--gonna quit--not worth the aggravation for 20 bucks!
-
You keep half of the salary as a cap penalty. It rounds up, so that a dollar player cut counts as a dollar against your cap.
-
I am lost why cant i get cap space by cutting players? Everytime I cut a player it gets worse. About ready to quit as my roster is not legal?
