We do have quite the legal team brewing here. We'll be at the US v. Canada game as well next week.
-
Also, happy draft day everyone! Don’t forget to get those watchlists loaded up before the draft.
-
So many attorneys play Ottoneu! Which games are you checking out in Miami? My wife and I are headed out to Arizona next week for USA/Canada (woo!) and Reds spring training (😬).
-
Hi guys. Ahead of the draft I'll introduce myself too. My name is Kim. I live in NH. I've been a public defender for almost 17 years. I've been playing fantasy baseball across most platforms for about 13 years. I took a break for a couple years (I had about 7 teams at once and got a little burnt) and this is my first team since the break. I'm probably a little rusty but I'm excited about getting back into it. I'm currently excited about going to Miami for the first round of the WBC!

T-minus ~46 hours until draft time

Sounds good.

Let's do an M's, Rainiers or Aquasox game this year!
-
Yes on PNW. I’m in Seattle
-
Anyone in the PNW?
-
Welcome Camden - what an awesome story/background! I started out in Ottoneu 5-6 years ago - I have slowly transitioned to 100% Ottoneu leagues so I think you'll enjoy it.
-
Big welcome from AKA Big Papi, hope we can chat along the road, I'm a baseball nut, very involved in little league baseball in my younger years, I umpired softball leagues (men and women). Can't wait for the season to start

Hey Everyone! Just joined this league this past week and thought I would say hi as well. Completely brand new to Ottoneu and salary leagues, but not at all to fantasy baseball. Baseball has been a big part of my life, as I was involved in it as a reporter/broadcaster, coach, bird dog scout and official scorer. Was very fortunate to cover 2 MLB teams in my sports media career, the Marlins and the Braves. Very “Old School” Baseball so am glad to see the SB and more contact returning this year.
-
Welcome to the league! I'm also an attorney........seems to be a pattern.
-
Thanks Capa! I figured I'd share a little bit more about me. I was born, raised, and currently live in the Cincinnati area where I'm a practicing attorney. I'm a long suffering Reds fan, but will always aim to have at least one Red on every one of my teams. Feel free to over charge me in trade negotiations. I commish two other leagues (568 and 757) and am a member of several others (13, 52, 100, 649, and 1199). I love bringing new people into Ottoneu and I look forward to helping out here!
-
Hey everyone - the Durham Bulls and I have been discussing the idea of him becoming a co-commish with me. To be honest (and some of you have probably noticed), my time to commit to doing everything a good commish should be doing is much more limited than it was a few years ago. This is a great group that is very committed so I want to make sure that we do everything we can to stay successful. As such, I am going to appoint him co-commish. Let me know if you have any questions.
-
Thanks for taking the lead on this! Welcome Scotty!
-
Found someone for Big Gibby Style! Welcome to the league Scotty Mac. He’s new to Ottoneu and has been asking all the right questions over on the forums. This should be a great learning experience for him, so send him a hello! That fills us back up for the draft.
-
I posted the opening for Big Gibby Style on the forums and reached out to a couple people from the Managers Seeking League page. Here's hoping we get that spot filled!
-
I missed the super early deadline by a few hours. I have not looked a any other rosters. Oh well, no auction for me
-
February 7th.....2021
-
It would be a pretty big advantage for a current owner to wait until all other teams have cut players to decide who they want to cut. All existing players had from 11/15 - 1/31 to make cuts. That is why there is a cut deadline. However, new owners have had no chance to cut players before, so they get a one-time chance to make free cuts. These are Ottoneu's rules.
-
Any new team claimed after the deadline should come with a single round of penalty free cuts. When did you claim the team?
-
Just curious why new team gets to cut players and I do not??
-
Hello all! My name is Ryan Beck and I just claimed and paid for the Durham Bulls (name change forthcoming). This looks like a fun squad and I'm looking to make my cuts later today. I've been playing Ottoneu since it went public back in 2011 and participate in several leagues. I'm on Slack @beckryac if anyone is over there. I look forward to competing with you all!
-
Next, I set the draft date according to the doodle poll. I set the date for Friday, March 3rd at 8 PM EST. That date worked for 5 of the 6 responses (the most).
-
Hey Everyone - A couple of housekeeping items. First, thanks to everyone that renewed and made their cuts yesterday. We have 3 teams in question. One is currently abandoned and open for someone to claim. There are two others that did not get their renewals in by the deadline. I have emailed them and will figure out their plans today. Once I have an answer from them, I will go to work on finding new owners.
-
Thanks to everyone for getting renewed for next season. I think as of right now, we have 5-6 teams remaining to get dues paid for next season. If you have not completed the draft survey, please do so. I will set a draft date next week.
-
Also - just some follow up on the discussion from a couple of weeks ago - I did have Niv take the league down to 12 teams. As of now, we only have one team open to fill prior to the draft.
-
Hey all – Time to start thinking about the draft. I put together a draft poll here: https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/dRl1WDKa . Please take 2-3 minutes and complete ASAP. Also, don't forget to renew your teams before the January 31 deadline, which is also the cut/keep deadline. Cheers!
-
So quiet in here .... Anybody up for trade talks? We've got 10 days to get any deals done
-
I was just looking and the participation (sign on) rate has been pretty good for 10 of the managers. I agree that 6-8 weeks is too long to wait and that if we are going to dissolve teams it would be better to do it ASAP. As a result, I am going to ask Niv to dissolve Crawfords and La Porta Potties. This will still most likely leave us with two openings subsequent 2/1. However, that doesn't really concern me much as those tend to get filled prior to 3/1.
-
I think for Option #3 to work, we need to purge prior to the cut deadline so everyone would be able to make their final cuts based on players from the dissolved teams being placed in the auction pool. Also, 6-8 weeks may be too long to "leave this as is". When these teams don't renew, they will be placed into the public "expired" teams tab on the Ottoneu home page. I might suggest giving it a couple of weeks to happen organically, but after such time we would need to actively
-
I like option 3 but will go with option 1 if that's the consensus. I've always liked 12-team leagues.
-
Option 1 sounds good and go to option 3 at beginning of March if not filled. I want this league to keep going as it is fun and quality
-
1) Leave things as is and see if the league fills up over the next 6-8 weeks
2) End the league
3) Reduce the league to 12 and disband 2 of the teams. See if the league fills up over the next 6-8 weeks.
Let me know what you think, other options, questions. If you are planning on being in the league next year, please reply to this.
-
Hey Everyone – Wanted to check in prior to the renewal deadline. It looks like between empty teams and non active teams, we are down 4-5 owners. I am not too concerned yet, most of the leagues start to fill up in Feb and early March. However, I wanted to at least start a discussion. I see we have a few options:
-
I think between the lack of response and the lack of participation (arbitration is an important Ottoneu function, in my opinion) you're justified in abandoning Crawfords (last check in was September) and Gibby (last check in was 6 weeks ago). Oscarville has visited the site today, so maybe another poke is in order for him and Cutter Island has only been away a few days as well.
-
I haven't heard much feedback - any other thoughts?
-
Hopefully the league can continue but being commish is not in the cards for me.
-
With that being said, I am open to all opinions. My life has changed so much over the past year that I just don't have the time needed to find 5 new owners. However, I would like to hear others' opinions. I am happy to continue in the league but let a new owner take over as commissioner. However, if others are on the fence then we can potentially choose to not continue the league. Let me know your opinions.

Hey everyone - so here is where things stand. We had 9 or 14 teams participate in arb. I would assume the teams that did not participate will not be coming back. I have only had 2 reach out to me to tell me that for sure. I know everyone has put a lot of work into their teams and there is desire to continue.
-
How are we looking for continuing another season?
-
Last day for arb,,,
-
3 more days left to finalize arbitration. Please take care of it if you haven't already (we have 6 teams remaining).
-
Hey everyone - we have 9 days left for arbitration and still a ton of teams left to participate. I will assume if you don’t complete arbitration that you are not coming back. On that note, if we have more than 4 teams not coming back, we’ll need to figure out if we are moving forward. Hopefully that is not the case.
-
Its a great Sunday to do a little bit of arbitration allocation. Fifteen days and 6 teams remaining.
-
Hey everyone, if you're planning on not returning and want help finding a team, let us all know as soon as possible so we can start the process of finding people!
