Kind of curious- can anyone see how that deal is reasonable? Looking for why I should give it a pass...

They are talking about moving back the mound to reduce the number of KO's. Testing it out in one of the minor leagues. Not a fan of changing the game for the most part.

I think MLB just needs to figure it out once and for all and stop 'experimenting' with a new ball each year.
-
I’m all for the league cracking down on foreign substances as I believe they also stopped utilizing juiced balls. 3 true outcome baseball in my opinion is bad for the game
-
If the MLB is truly serious about cracking down on pitchers using “Sticky stuff” it will truly change the game as we have known it for the past several years as did the crackdown on the steroid era.

Pitcher's stats only count if the team uses them in the role they are slotted on your team. So correct, if you had Gregory Soto as an SP, but he came out of the pen those stats would not count.
-
SP/RP Question: The rules appear to say I need to play a pitcher in my lineup the same way that he is used. Does that mean that "SP/RP" eligibility doesn't matter as much as the way that the team actually uses him? In other words, if I put Gregory Soto in an SP slot (his position shows "SP/RP"), but he only comes out of the pen, will he not accrue stats for my team?
-
If you go to your team (or click your team name somewhere), your players should all be present but unassigned to positions. You click to highlight and then click to place within the lineup. Let me know if that doesn't work for you, or if you're not seeing that.
-
how do I set my lineup?

Thanks everyone for showing up and sticking around... I guess now we play? Good luck!
-
That's ok, the order of nomination doesn't matter too much. Everyone has a shot at every player, unlike a snake draft.

"Hey Dan,
The auction draft nomination order cannot be changed.
Thanks,

...well then!

Looks like 5 SP/5 RP on a daily basis. I have opted for all default settings for a 5x5 Classic Roto, so this site (https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com/rules) is the best repository for any of the roster or day-to-day questions. It's where I go to answer them!
-
How many SP slots will we have on a given day then?
-
GS cap might be a h2h setting. Ok nothing to worry about then!
-
Nope, I didn't set that (and in just scanning didn't actually see where I'd even toggle that...). We're going to follow the standard rule that "...Season-long leagues without playoffs have a 1500 IP maximum for all pitchers" - so however you want to get there (or not) is the approach.
-
Do we have a Per Week GS Cap setting for starting pitchers? "The number of starting pitcher slots depends on the league's Per Week GS Cap setting".

Sounds good

Hey everyone - just poking around the auction portal - I think the nomination order was set based on when you joined. Everyone OK if I do a random.org randomized list to shuffle? Will plan on doing that in the next week or so (in case this affects anyone's strategy; will have plenty of heads up).

Sounds good to me. Can't wait!

Alright gang, going to lock it in given that there has either been acceptance or tepid uncertainty - March 28th it is. Idea would be to start at noon (12PM EST), and take it to completion. With this date/time set, hopefully plenty of time in advance (about as much as I can give!) if this doesn't work out for you and you want to explore a different league - though I hope of course you'll stick around. Thanks, and have a great rest of the weekend.
-
28th is fine by me, 3am start over here but coffee should get me though!

Just a heads up, I'm available on March 14th and 27th now, just not the days in between.
-
I would prefer March 13th or even the 6th or 7th as alternative available weekends. The weekend directly before the season begins has a high chance of conflicting with other leagues for me.
-
I hear you; weekends may not be ideal for everyone. That said, I don't think we'd be able to knock this out in one weeknight, and I prefer aligning on a single time that everyone can be there from just an ease of scheduling standpoint. Will be honest that Salvy out for 2 weeks mid-March does make this a bit tricky, and why I ultimately settled on the 28th as a way to (at least until now) ID a time that hasn't been blocked yet. Stay tuned...
-
I can do Sunday if we must, but for me, weekdays are much preferred.

March 28th works for me

How do we feel about Sunday, March 28th at 12:00 EST, one shot - 3 days before Opening Day? Seems to check the boxes of closer to the season, no objections to this date (yet)...
-
March 11th and 23rd are not good for me. Otherwise in favor of drafting late.
-
I'll be unavailable March 14-27. Other than that I'm available anytime.
-
No objections to a March start date.
-
Ok then. As one political pundit says, "I've seen enough." Will move to early March for now (don't look into the date just yet; moving more so to get it off the calendar for 2/7 and to buy us some time).
Will now get a bit more specific and look to lock down the dates/times. More on that in the coming days.
Thanks,
Dan

My vote is for early march.

Flexible with a preference for early March.
-
Hey all - less than 2 weeks out from the placeholder/preliminary draft date. Just wanted to get something close to a consensus before moving it out a bit closer to the regular season. Is that what folks are leaning towards? Something end-Feb/early-Mar? Assuming that is the case, will then work to lock down dates/times. Thanks!
-
One other point. I prefer late Feb or early March.

Everyone hello again. I agree with the consensus to have a full draft. As far as date and time I am totally flexible. Look forward to the season.

Great inputs Krang/Kylo - I think that we're seeing that clearly we should aim to have the full draft completed in a narrow window of time (agreed), and that the preference is to knock all 40 rounds out via the usual auction draft (also agreed).
Are you both (and anyone else feel free to chime in) against the Feb. 7 1200 EST start? I do tend to prefer drafting closer to the start of the season, but am prioritizing compatibility of schedules above all else in considering. Thanks!
-
Hi everyone! Glad to be here.
I'm completely flexible about evening/weekend dates and times, but would strongly prefer to have the option of selecting a full 40 during the draft. 2-3 sessions in late Feb. or early March does seem like the sweet spot, IMO.

Just throwing it out there, based on previously voiced preferences: it seems like non-friday weeknights in early March could be best. Maybe shoot for Wed. March 3rd for ~240 picks and Thur. March 4th for ~240 picks? If we don't finish in two 4 hour sessions, overflow to finish on Mon. March 8th. Start time between 1800 and 2000 EST each night (hopefully we can cover all our time zones comfortably). Thoughts?
-
I don't feel the need to split the draft with an extended break. IMO we should be conducting everything within 2-3 tightly clustered sessions that everyone can make. Parity holds regardless if those are earlier (Feb) or later (March). I think if there is too big a gap, spending money early is a suboptimal due to imperfect information, and spending later mo'betta due to spring training info which we can avoid. That being said, I am very flexible personally.
-
Interesting suggestion. Too bad the last 5 rounds are the fastest! Feel free to opine, rest of league - I don't have a particularly strong prior here, so open to hearing it out.
Is anyone a hard "no" for weeknights? Just trying to get creative about the burnout... we could kickoff on 2/7 for ~20 rounds perhaps, and then work in 5 or 10 rd increments in the weeks following to wrap? Want to be sensitive to other's schedules as my situation (WFM, no kids) is about as flexible as it gets.
-
Something we might want to consider to lighten the demand of the draft
"As long as each team can field a team, you can pause the auction and not return to it for the year. While we do recommend filling out as close to 40 roster spots as you can, teams are under no obligation to do anything more than fill out a starting lineup. If all the teams feel satisfied around 35 roster spots filled, feel free to skip the last 60 players until the regular season auctions are live."
-
Good stuff, Kylo - very clear. I have a very flexible schedule for the next few months (ty, COVID), so happy to administer the draft is as many (or as few) sessions as we find convenient. My POV is that I'd like to get it done as quickly as we can - so either one marathon, or a couple/few closely scheduled sessions. With my flexibility in mind as well, I am happy to get Day-1 on the board sooner than Feb 7 (but only if we get consensus, since that was a 'founding' setting of the league).
-
Unfortunately there is no way for Ottoneu to facilitate an offline draft. A core component of player value is the player's $ cost, which is determined during the live auction draft. Snake drafts do not exist in Ottoneu. A first year draft IS a hefty undertaking: a full 480 player auction. The good news for scheduling is that the draft can be paused and resumed at anytime. So we will likely need several (2+) draft sessions, ideally with as many owners being present for the duration of each.
-
I'm open to all suggestions, but admit that I am a novice here in terms of administration. For those who are vets of Ottoneu and have gone through the draft process (especially for the Year-1 draft), is there any flexibility to the draft? Just a disclaimer that I'm going to probably ask a number of questions like this from time to time and by no means should they be taken as my inclination towards something - just trying to learn more. That said, I'm all ears on ways that the draft can be best.
