Everyone might just be waiting until the last day so we don't know where their money is going. I plan on changing mine up on the last day, but wanted it in just incase I got distracted ad forgot.
-
one week remaining to get your arb dollars out there. Dont forget!

If you have any questions about arbitration you can reach out to any of the managers who have completed theirs.
-
Reminder - some teams have not done their arbitration yet. You still have a couple of weeks but do it before you forget!
-
And you can change your allocations anytime up to Nov 14.
-
Done my arbitration, fun but DEPRESSING. Reminder - you have to press SAVE after you do each team. You will be prompted as to which teams you have left to allocate to - but it doesn't clear the team you are working on in the list until you navigate off the page. Not as bad as it sounds. Have fun!
-
I thought it would be completely anonymous. But you can see a running total of which players have added allocations. And if you go 1st everyone knows who you bid on.
-
Arbitration page up and running!

Yea I thought they did them both too, but I guess it's just allocations. Too bad really, it would make for a crazy offseason.

Brad sent in an earlier email, allocations

Are we also doing the vote off or just the allocations?
-
I knew we should have waited for the recount! The thing about dropping players is unless you think there's a great difference between what you value them at and what someone else would, no one is ever gonna put a cent on those guys. You only get $25 to split up between all the teams after all. Everyone probably has at least 1 player who is highly underpriced. I told you Brad the Salary math was gonna start looking ugly this year. Now add $33 to your roster value. Can't wait to see what happens.
-
Apparently there has been a scoring change and Soto and a Hot Dog and the Hall of Very Good tied for fourth. I'll reflect that in the balance sheet.
-
Before the end of arbitration, players may not be cut. Between the end of arbitration and the keeper deadline, players may be cut or traded. After the keeper deadline and before the auction draft, teams may not cut or trade any players. (I think this is why it is not a good idea to drop players before arbitration. If a team drops several players than I would assume the players remaining are players he wants. Targeting those players for increase would be a good idea)(maybe)

In rules go to OFFSEASON and look for Allocations. If you have any questions drop me a line. Arbitration ends November 14. Trading will be allowed from Nov 14 to Jan 31 (keeper deadline.)
-
Salaries have been updated and loans cleared. Ouch. Arbitration starts Oct 15.
-
Is there anyone who IS NOT intending on playing next year? I think not, but wanted to check. We've got a pretty engaged bunch.
-
Also, we lost the Golden Eyes. I've tried to contact Adam through Ottoneu and his personal email with no reply. He didn't seem like the kind of guy who would just up and leave - so not really sure what happened but I hope he's okay. I have someone who wanted to play last year so will offer the team to him AFTER arbitration is complete.
-
Everything was to be updated yesterday (caps, salaries) but it doesn't look like it's happened yet. Likely to happen any day. Arbitration is to start next Friday. I'll update all once that opens.
-
I don't know if we had to cut down to 40, but I don't think there's a problem with doing so either. We all have expendable players on our roster and I don't think there's a chance anyone allocates any money to these players in Arbitration either. Might make it less confusing.
-
The Ottoneu software will enforce the 40 player limit when it's time for the auction. Until then, it really doesn't bother me if owners have over 40 players.
-
Good question Bob. I guess we'll find out on Thursday.
-
so how long do teams have to drop to 40 players now that the season is over. i assume once ottoneu removes all players on IL making rosters illegal.
Brunzer on
October 5, 2021 4:45 PM
-
That's not completely true either. During the season it's illegal. In the off season you lose your loans and those non-active players become active roster spots. You can't intentionally become illegal in the off season by exceeding roster or budget limits.
-
My understanding is the same as Andy's. If you have more than 40 "active" players on your roster you are in an illegal roster situation. That goes for any time, not just during the season.
-
I hear ya--I appreciate the back and forth! I'm sure we are all in a similar boat of making sure we are on top of the rules so that we don't miss a weird quirk along the way. If anyone else has any other info, please let us know!

It seems like during the season you can have 40+ players (based on various player statuses). I wish the Ottoneu rules were more detailed. This is all I can find...
"The various statuses that result in extra roster spots are not considered during the auction draft, so if a team has a suspended player, 60-day IL player, COVID-19 IL player, or opted out player, they will count against the roster limit. Once the season begins, they no longer will count against the roster limit. &
-
Yes, you are correct. You can cut players immediately after the "Auction Draft"
But, during the "Auction Draft" I believe the system doesn't let you have more than 40 players on your team.
-
Hmm....I'm still a bit confused since it doesn't say that you can't cut players after the draft. Basically, what I'm curious about is how we can add more than 40 players during the season as long as we cut someone to get back down to 40.
My Oh My on
October 5, 2021 12:25 PM
-
Unfortunately, you cannot cut players during that timeframe.
"After the keeper deadline ( January 31, 2021) and before the auction draft ( February 16, 2021), teams may not cut or trade any players."
In other words, if you keep all 40 of your players, you will not be able to add any more players during the auction draft.
-
Are we able to keep 40 players going into the draft and then, say, we decide we like 10 players as upgrade options via the draft, can we then drop 10 players to get back to 40 after the draft?

Thanks everyone for a great season! Looking forward to next season already.

I think arbitration starts after the World Series. Our model is allocation. Stay tuned for more information on that. I would suggest that managers not cut any players until AFTER arbitration is complete.
-
Wow tight finish John. Iβll wait on the recount before getting to excited. Donβt get too far ahead of yourself though. The biggest part of Ottoneu hasnβt even happened yet and if Iβm right, is gonna throw all of your plans right out the window. Great season everyone.

Congrats to all on a successful first season. Kudos to Shawn who ran away with it over the past six weeks or so. Well done.

I dont know as many trades will happen in the offseason as you think. Possibly more after each manager has 2 seasons under his belt. Id like to be able to say Im wrong on that though. Time will tell. Looking forward to the arbitration process to see what its like.

Always an issue. Dynasty formats should theoretically help since you can always build for next year. I've heard suggestions of penalizing low finishers (salary penalities, cash) but not sure I support that. Maybe it is what it is. At least with Ottoneu, we do have some off season things to do - I hope we'll see some trades after arbitration as managers finesse their lineups.
-
Ain't that the truth....and it doesn't help that fantasy football always starts right around that time, too

Thats been talked about in so many leagues and message boards throughout fantasy baseball leagues without success. There is no finite solution. I cannot think of one thing thats really worked over the last 35 years. Waiver wire pick ups are so important in late August and September for rebuilding teams. As commish in CBS I'd welcome any good ideas that would prevent tanking and keep all managers interested right to the end!

For example I grabbed 2-start Kyle Gibson on waivers for next week since I'm close to the top in wins and two of the top three teams in the standings are right there, too. It's fun to disrupt. But even finishing at the top in wins won't mean much to my bottom line overall in the standings. Do we ever want to figure out strategies to deter finishing in the bottom of the standings? I'm genuinely fine with status quo but I know it's something that competitive leagues like ours consider year-to-year

As we get to the end of the season, I've been thinking about the concept of deterring tanking, in a sense. In the last couple months of the season, it becomes easy for teams pretty much 7-12 in the standings to ignore most of their roster for the current season. There's just not much incentive to maintain a competitive roster for the current year when you're farther down in the standings. Does anyone have any interest in ideas on how we can maintain some level of competition top to bottom?

Thankfully no one I was planning to keep and with all the injuries I've had this year, no real chance in the standings either lol.
On the flip side, I have some dollar bids to declare :D

Well damn, I thought I was out of it. I cut enough for the team faab but not enough to get out of that $1 dollar per roster player rule, that I apparently forgotten about until right now.... Thanks for the heads up. I had to go back to work at lunch and didn't see I was still in the red... Gah. I'll fix that by tonight (somehow hehe) once I'm off the clock again.

Yikes. I don't know how you get out of this Tundra. I knew that needing $1 per spot on your roster rule would show up again. It's such a wonky interaction.
